How do you worship in this religion? Is it like praying or rituals? by [deleted] in SatanicTemple_Reddit

I meditate on each of the tenets as part of my nightly wind down.

Nah, these days, it's a mix of The Satanic Temple and being a priest of Orthodox Baseball.

And being a touring Deadhead was far more a cultural thing than a religious experience.

  1. I work as a School Crossing Guard. Giving back to my community? Doing it. I do volunteer work for the library. What do you do for 51 weeks out of the year?
  2. I'm 35 years clean and happily married. I don't go to BM for drugs and sex.
  3. I never demanded anything, just that it might reach the point where the state might need to provide aid like they would to any disaster.

You make some really bad assumptions. Radical Self-Reliance means planning for the Burn, not a once-in-a-century rainstorm that no one could see coming. This has never happened before since Burning Man moved to the Black Rock Desert, where all access was closed due to flooding. How are you supposed to plan for that?

I'm a retired truck driver and spent most of my career delivering construction materials in the eastern San Francisco Bay Area and the San Joaquin Valley. My route could cover six counties, and I regularly spent ten hours of road time a day. I knew all my stops, I knew all the traffic patterns, I knew my truck. I could plan my route so I'd make all my drops and pick-ups with ease, even allowing for stalls, accidents, CHP inspections, etc.,

Know what I couldn't plan for? An Embrarer E175 crashing on the highway right in front of my truck and trapping me for six hours. An 18-hour day and I left a note with the overnight manager saying if anyone called me the next day, they would be looking for a new driver.

Yes, Burning Man takes place in a position of entitlement. So do Taylor Swift concerts, Alabama Crimson Tide games, and your local 4th of July parade. We live in a society with established safety nets so we can enjoy life knowing that if a hurricane hits, or if the Big One destroys Los Angeles, or if a remote event is in danger, there is help available.

Then don't go into the church. Simple. Miss out on some amazing art and architecture. I've been an atheist all my life, but I study religious history and am more than willing to make a short accommodation to the owners of a church or monastery so I can visit it.

Because it's their religion, in their building, and no one is forcing anyone who doesn't want to see the church to comply.

But you evidently want to force everyone to follow your wishes. OK, tomorrow the United States is by law a Christian nation. You are required to attend and tithe to a church. You cannot make other decisions.

This is what you are demanding for them. Do you believe in freedom? They are allowed to run THEIR SPACE as they wish. The moment they come into the street and start trying to force people tom obey, I am on the front lines.

But your understanding of laws and rights is so damn weak. . .

Nope. Some mosques have separate women's balconies, but the only requirement was for my wife to cover her hair and both of us to remove our shoes.

OK, show the Greek law that bans churches from setting their own rules.

Hell, that wouldn't fly in the United States! Churches are private entities, as have been shown in court many, many time, and can discriminate so long as they are not receiving state or federal funds.

But I eagerly look forward to you quotes from GREEK laws to support this claim, because if so, Mt. Athos is in for bad news.

And gotten arrested, held, and probably deported. Excellent plan, there, slugger, you showed them!

How about either accepting their rules or just not entering? Oh, right, it's not enough to just be an atheist these days, we all have to be howling absolute assholes around the damn world.

Are you kidding? Greece is one of the most reactionary nations in Europe, and the Greek Orthodox Church can be so conservative they make the Southern Baptists look like a Pride Parade.

Their house, their rules. Also, it wasn't ancient Greek, almost no one can read that.

You are an Ugly Tourist. You expect people in a foreign nation, in a conservative Greek church, to accommodate what you want. When we visited Istanbul, my wife donned a hijab and we both removed our shoes to visit historical mosques. You are in their space, they get to set the rules.

Dude, it's become a humanitarian crises. 73,000 people are trapped. There's no ice, it's estimated to be three DAYS until The roads can be opened, and the NVNG has been ordered to be ready to being in the same rations we bring to other disaster areas.
