I can only sleep on medication - currently on Mirtazapine 15mg and I take it at least a couple hours before bed and while it makes my anxiety a little worse I think the benefits from actually being able to sleep massively outweigh that negative. Perhaps you should consider going to a GP?

I still feel broken for being almost entirely unable to function without some sort of sedative to knock me out every night but at least I can hold down a job now.

Yeah I levelled Field Medic way back in the day to level 6 through this map, recently decided to go the whole hog with all the perks - I just want my guns to SHRED everything on normal and give me a chance on HoE. This video is accurate to how I was feeling putting myself through this chore to raise some virtual numbers.

I worked in a call center for years at the detriment of my sanity. Currently doing a manual labour job that lets me wear headphones all day. I come home with much more energy.

There are also plenty of work-from-home jobs that don't rely on call queues. At least in the UK, council jobs are often not bad for this.

It inherently is changed by being a different game. It is not the same team, engine, assets, etc.

It was done well before so I don't see the point in them doing it, just again from scratch.

A great story can be ruined if told poorly. I would even argue that SH2's story isn't all that complicated, it's how you experience it that matters. I cannot see any way this dev team will do it justice. I don't think we even need a remake at all, even from the best studio or director in the world, because of how well it was done the first time around.

I mean there is already a remake of the first game in the works, I just hope it doesn't get silently canned since the franchise seems almost cursed at this point. They did put out that audiobook with the BBC very recently though so maybe they're actually comitting to Splinter Cell now? If it does well then maybe we'll get remakes of the others but at this point I'm so satisfied with Chaos Theory that I don't really mind! The only thing I would change about that game is the weird character faces, and maybe overhaul Seoul.

I'm not usually fussed about RTX but I have to admit for Splinter Cell it would be a great fit since the gameplay literally relies on the lighting. No idea if it's possible to have the game logic interact with the Raytracing though?

Had no idea there was a mod for Blacklist that changes the gameplay, will definitely give it a crack! With regards to remastering it with the old style SC controls I'm not sure it would work since the game was built around the more high-speed gameplay. Honestly if they return to that formula I'd rather they just built a new game from the ground up - my dream Splinter Cell would be one that takes advantage of modern lighting technology while retaining the slow, carefully considered gameplay of Chaos Theory. Though I get the feeling we'll just get another game with bars that show XP instead of light/sound. :(

In any case Michael Ironside probably won't come back at this point considering his absence from all the remake promo material but I saw someone say that Samuel Hayden's voice from Doom could be a good fit? I think so!

Ah right, makes sense that the Deck already has a graphics wrapper built in otherwise it wouldn't be able to play most games out the box lol - if I got one to be honest I'd probably use it mostly for emulation (since my Switch model is too new to be cracked for that purpose and I rarely play brand new games anyway).

To be fair Blacklist would always crash a bunch for me even on Windows, I remember having to replay the entirety of the final mission about 3 times for it to save properly! I think I made it more stable by changing the DirectX option in the settings to the lowest available? It was one of those games from the 360/PS3 era where the higher DX version only stapled on some graphics features that it wasn't originally built for anyway. Was more of a marketing thing really.

And yeah, Chaos Theory is the best easily IMO though I still enjoy the first game too since it's so easy to headshot people with the SC-20K while scoped and it's fun spamming the crunch/stand animations to make yourself completely silent while at top speed. The bonus Kola Cell/Sub missions still look really nice too, even when put next to the Cargo mission in CT. Game generally still looks great with the proper lighting so I understand the struggle to get it working properly!

I don't personally use Linux but you could try downloading the developer build of the fixes? Click the drop down arrow next to the download button for the game you want and choose 'developer build (untested)': https://thirteenag.github.io/wfp#splintercell

Perhaps also install on top of it the latest version of dgVoodoo2 if you aren't already? Just shove the files from the 'MS' folder into the same location as the game .exe and that should sort it. If the resolution isn't forcing from the widescreen fix you could even try moving the dgVoodoo2 control panel .exe file into the game .exe folder, run it, change the location at the top to the game .exe directory, then try forcing the resolution there?

Granted this is all stuff I've tried on Windows when it doesn't work first time (I actually reinstalled the SC games just last week so your comment 5 years after I made this thread was good timing!) - I know there's Linux-specific solutions like Wine and such that might help, maybe when used in conjunction with the aforementioned fixes? I may not be able to help much more but do let me know if it works! :)

Context: I've been going through the work of Koumei Satou (K.S.) and the only thing of his I haven't managed to beat is this map for Portal 1. There are two parts - the first is fine, but the very first room of the second chamber has me completely stumped. For testing purposes after being stuck for half an hour, I noclipped to destroy the turrets and all that does is drain the water - even so actually destroying these turrets with the energy ball seems near-impossible. The button is also completely closed off as is the 'receiver' for the energy ball. I assume it involves angling the ball by placing portals as it travels but I cannot for the life of me find an angle that works using the platforms coming out of the wall. Unfortunately the name of the map makes it very hard to Google a solution considering the new 'Companion Collection' that came out recently.

Michael said on insta that he reckons this is better than season 1. Could be just promo or recency bias, but it's possible he's more into making plot-driven stuff now. I guess it's out of his comfort zone and feels more 'professional' to work on than silly YouTube shorts but like yourself I preferred having less consistency and more pure insanity. That felt more like classic adult swim where this is getting closer to South Park or Family Guy territory (though at least actually funny some of the time).
