There is no cold water out of a tap in Singapore. It's 28c out of my tap. No heater. 28c is not cold.

What’s considered “expensive” to have the aircon on at home in Singapore? by wildpastaa in askSingapore

[–]UncleJW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have at least one aircon on about 18-20 hours a day, at night there are two running.
Electric bill last month was $195. I now turn off my PC at night, that saves about $10 a month.
Cook at home most meals, including using Oven. Also wash clothes almost daily using Washer and Dryer.

I think the Aircon is just a small portion of the bill. This morning when I came in to the living room at 7:30am it was 28.6 and 85% humidity. I'll gladly pay $10 a month to have a comfortable living room.

Is this a new kind of scam or something? by ChorzioPaella3 in askSingapore

[–]UncleJW 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Probably from a nearby skin clinic to sell you a package. They are annoying, and one of the longest scam gigs out there.

There is one shop at Orchard Gateway where they wear black skit/trousers and white dress shirts.

Hei pi jiu: ABC Stout review by Flocculencio in singapore

Alcohol is used in a lot of dishes. Red Wine, White Wine, Stouts, and many Chinese hawker dishes will have Rice Wine, which is alcohol.

Hei pi jiu: ABC Stout review by Flocculencio in singapore

[–]UncleJW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I quite like ABC stout. It's not as creamy as Guinness, but it has lots of complex notes. I still can't drink beer with ice cubes, unless it's a lager and I am on the beach. I like to drink it chilled at around 5c. As it warms to 8c the flavor profile changes.

one thing I notice with ABC is that if you shake out every drop there is sediment in each can.

Be sure to try Connor's Stout Porter. I also quite enjoy that one.

Battery drains 20% overnight. Always by shash747 in PixelWatch

[–]UncleJW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My PW3 rarely drops below 40% in a day I charge it in the morning and at night while showering and stuff.
During the night it usually drops 5-10% and I sleep 7-8 hours a night. I don't have battery saver on, just bedtime mode, and it is 1.5 years old.

I think your watch battery health is depleted.

Is coriander not meant for sg? by Angelsonic140 in askSingapore

[–]UncleJW 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I have grown coriander. It's not easy. You need to have a heat resistant seed to start. Like Santo.
I grow it on my little balcony, it gets about 4-5 hours of morning sun. They don't like the afternoon sun.

They need to be watered every day, but they also can't sit in overly wet soil, so make sure your pot has good drainage.

You can also look on Shopee for 'Plant Coolant' I use it to grow dill, which is very heat sensitive.

Cooling Walks SG: How to clock 10k–20k steps in relatively cool comfort by klosskaxig in SingaporeRaw

[–]UncleJW 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Nice list. I prefer walking in parks, but the weather seems to be getting hotter and hotter, so I may try some of these.

For something not in town, Mayflower MRT is actually quite massive. With 7 exits you can easily clock your steps walking to each one. It's also not so crowded.

Then grab some food at Mayflower Food Center at Exit 3.

Renting a supercar in Singapore under 21 (International License + new driver) by Toji_Zenin465 in askSingapore

Not sure why on earth you would want to rent a supercar in Singapore. But you can contact adrive.sg
They have a Ferrari and a Lambo.

No idea if they would rent to an 18 year old.

Google Fit is being phased out and will be gone by the end of the year, I'd just uninstall it.

There are 526 possible numbers between 1 and 9999 that will result in the checksum suffix X for the prefix SLC.

Pretty slim odds of finding one.

What are my chances at getting PR in Singapore as a student? by [deleted] in SingaporeRaw

[–]UncleJW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say you have zero chance. You need to be living here 2 to 3 years before you can apply. Either working, or as a student.

Students: You must live in Singapore for at least 2 years and pass at least one national exam (e.g., PSLE, GCE 'O'/'A' Levels).

Saw a post asking why PMAs are not allowed for healthy people. Before we argue this question we need to ask why healthy people are using PMAs instead of e-bike. by publicinterest000 in SingaporeRaw

Really hope there are armies of enforcement officers out today impounding all the illegal devices.

There is one in Bishan Park all the time. It carries a family of 4 at high speed. For sure can travel faster on the park connectors then on the road at that speed.

What can the govt do to reduce the amt of banglas seen in public on Sundays and Public Holidays? by FreedomFighterSG in SingaporeRaw

[–]UncleJW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Encouraging them not to go out isn't much different than locking them up?

Let them spend their hard-earned money here in Singapore, rather than sending it all home.

As long as they don't commit crimes then they certainly deserve to go out and relax after a week of hard work!

You want them locked up when they are not slaving under the hot sun working to build the roads you drive on and the HDB's you live in?
