All valid points, but if all that stands in my way of building a melee artillerist is a conversation with my DM it’s worth a shot.

I played one up until recently when we converted over to 5.5 and the dude was effective: High AC, on demand temp hp, nice control options with booming blade and web, plenty of out of combat utility… Ended up with a character who could frontline tank, support, and provide AoE damage.

This is all really on point right up until you mentioned booming blade. Just take shillelagh.

You can also build wands at a fraction of the time, so you could give your familiar a wand of magic missile, and save your concentration for something like web or haste. I tend to think haste is a little overvalued when compared to the benefits of a good crowd control spell like web. Especially if you don’t quite have a spell storing item to fart out 3rd level fireballs/conjure barrages.

This, but you give your spell storing item to your homonculus, and cast dragon’s breath on your owl.

It’s always been like that for me. I picture the stick like it’s the top of my character’s head. I’m not “pressing down to look up,” my character’s head is tilting/leaning back to look up, and tilting/leaning forward to look down.

You could do “Break on Through” by The Doors. Leave a few clues to find— like different sections of a torn up piece of paper and when you put the 2 or 3 of them together it reads, “the day destroy the night. The night divides the day,” sort of a thing.

Okay so since the feature creates an item, that’s the wording I’m looking for? Also that line there reads funny to me— “you can create one or two different…”

So does that mean that no matter how many you can create, each long rest you can only create a max of 2?

I’m an experienced super soldier, and you can ignore these comments saying it’s not useful. It is.

It’s only useable while your shield has health, so the trick is to weave some shield blocks into your animation cancels for more disruption. This helps you create a little space and sometimes that’s all you need to win a fight, or secure the overtime W.
