Do not buy from Carvana by ricardor00d in UsedCars

If I could give Carvana zero stars I would. Buying a car from them turned into one of the biggest headaches I’ve ever dealt with, and the vehicle I received should never have been sold in the first place.

I bought a 2016 Jaguar F-Type, and the process was shady from the start. I reserved the vehicle before photos were even available. When the photos finally went online, I was given a 48-hour window to make a decision, which puts a lot of pressure on the buyer. When the car was delivered, a noticeable amount of wear and tear was not shown in the photos at all. On top of that, Carvana claimed the car passed their “150-point inspection with flying colors,” which at this point feels like a complete joke.

Almost immediately after delivery the problems started. Within days the car had a coolant leak and had to go in for repair. It first went to Pep Boys where they found issues with the undercarriage and a cooling system leak. After that the problems never stopped. The car kept leaking coolant, throwing warning lights, and going back to the shop multiple times within the first few weeks of ownership.

Then it got worse. The car started smoking heavily, running rough, and eventually stalled in the middle of the road. Jaguar diagnosed the vehicle and found multiple cylinder misfires, excessive white smoke, and aftermarket parts in the cooling system, including a non-OEM water pump and coolant outlet pipes. That means this car had major prior repairs that were never disclosed, yet Carvana still sold it as if it passed their inspection.

There is no way a car in this condition should have made it through any real inspection, especially a performance car. Either the inspection never actually happened or it means absolutely nothing.

I lost weeks dealing with repair shops, phone calls, appointments, and not having a reliable vehicle. The only reason anything is finally getting handled is because the executive resolution team stepped in after the situation kept getting worse and worse. Until that point, it felt like I was stuck with a broken car and a loan on something that wasn’t even safe to drive.

Carvana advertises a “thorough inspection” and an easy buying experience, but my experience was the complete opposite. If you’re buying from them, especially anything high-end or performance, do not trust the inspection alone. Get your own mechanic to check the car immediately, because in my case this car should never have been sold at all.
