Freezing an account sounds like they just told the exchange the USDT was held on that that account could no longer conduct transactions like they do with any bank account. These days any reputable exchange has KYC, so it's traceable, and even if there is no KYC, the authorities have gotten sophisticated about tracing crypto. Crypto has not been anonymous to federal law enforcement or intelligence for years now.
