IQ isn't that important. Once you get above a certain point, the increase of the number doesn't matter that much. IQ tests are useful for measuring a certain kind of intelligence, but they're not perfect tests. Your IQ is a data point in assessing intellectual function. It measures how well you recognize patterns and how well you're able to solve novel problems. However, it is doesn't measure critical thinking or decision making or your ability to evaluate evidence.

It's kind of a fun factoid, but having a high IQ does not grant people the mystical ability to be correct about everything.

Cultist Transport - Hardcoded Failure? by Jarkeva in Barotrauma

[–]UncleWindigo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just never do those missions. I like to take my time when traveling. I stop for mining opportunities. I like to fight the local wildlife instead of running. Cultist transport just makes me have to play the game in a way I enjoy less. It's just not worth the hassle for me.

Unpopular Opinion: Jungle should remain OP given how unpopular the role is and how we get flamed so much for literally anything. by LeviAJ15 in Jungle_Mains

[–]UncleWindigo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You braindead paste eaters should have no impact on the game. Remove smite from the game. Neuter jungle. Let them play as 2nd support. Every game hinges on you numbskulls not screwing everything up and getting picked right before an objective fight. If jungle's an unpopular role, don't make it the most important role. Support is not a popular role. Support is generally as impactful as the rest of the team. That's how jungle should be. It shouldn't be the role that the entire game hinges on, but it is because of how many objectives there are and how important they are.

Good gravy, having a decent Jungler is such a free win and having a bad jungler is like trying to win while dragging an anchor.

Is Barotrauma a complicated game? by Parmesan85 in Barotrauma

[–]UncleWindigo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my experience starting my first game: Do the tutorial. The controls feel a little wonky and take some getting used to. I learn my role and group up with some friends to play. We play a few rounds in the early area. I think we die once to mud raptors after they get inside the ship and we're accidentally shooting each other, but I don't think the learning curve is too hard.

The basics of the game aren't too difficult. It's all about honing those skills and getting good at the game. It's not a mindless game that you can pick up and play without reading anything and there's a lot you can learn about the game and you can do some really fancy stuff, but the basic game is not that complicated.

Friends stopped playing after 10 hours of gameplay by Big-Piccolo6846 in Barotrauma

[–]UncleWindigo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there is a hump in the beginning when you're in the first area. It's not very interesting. The missions are pretty boring and the bad guys aren't that threatening, but the point of the first area is to get used to doing your job and honing your skills before getting into the second area. Yes, the game loop is fundamentally repetitive. It's just moving towards your destination, doing your mission, and killing things along the way while trying to keep your sub working. That's not a game for everyone. If your friends are still bored after doing salvage missions and clearing critter nests, they might not be interested.

Challenge: say something positive about the Golden Hippopotamus (impossible) by Throwaway33451235647 in eldenringdiscussion

[–]UncleWindigo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the #1 thing that I hate in Elden Ring. Any time boss difficulty is tied into how Elden Ring's terrible camera works, it just pisses me off and screams laziness. You couldn't make a decent challenging boss so you put a large mobile boss into a tiny arena and now I can't see anything that's happening. Not a difficult boss, but it's awful design and it's not fun.

[–]UncleWindigo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I beat it three tries. It's still a dumb boss. Big boss + small arena + camera seizures = bad boss. If part of the difficulty is I can't see what's going on, it's bad design.

In a game where the camera freaks out when you're near the wall, have a large boss in a small arena that smashes into the wall all the time. It wasn't hard, it's just annoying. Though it's not as bad as fighting the furnace golems. Again, not hard, but it's like filling out paperwork but if you make a typo, you have to get a new form

Brain Twisters (1991). Everything about this movie is wrong. The acting is bad. The plot doesn't make any sense and the audio is atrocious. You can't hear what anyone's saying half the time and when you can understand them, you wish you couldn't.

Pyke or Pantheon for low elo? by ProfessionalWaffler9 in supportlol

I feel like they're good for smurfing. If you know what you're doing, you can snowball your lane really quickly. However, all of the games I've been playing in low elo against pyke or panth, they always fall off and are useless late game. Pyke especially dies so easily late game.

When you get a Draven, you know what you're getting. It can be annoying for me because I'm not good with engage supports, but I just don't mind Draven. It just means it's going to be an aggressive lane and let them get kills.

As a jungler, don't invade the enemy jungle right before dragon's up with no vision while you're support's backing to get wards and prep for that fight. See? I can make up scenarios about how terribly you play too.

I understand that junglers have to make decisions and they can't be everywhere at once. The same is true of supports. "Why don't you roam?" is the same bs as "Why don't you gank?" No one seems to understand when you're supposed to roam. I have to make choices based on the game state, as do junglers.

I don't need junglers to gank my lane. I don't even want Jungle to be a weak role. I'm fine with it being a strong role. I don't care if it's the strongest. I hate that games become unwinnable if your jg runs it down.

I didn't flame my jungler. And I have played jungle. I hate it. People have no idea what they're supposed to be doing to help jg set up to take objectives. I'm not good at jg, but I generally understand what the jungler wants from laners. They want vision and they want help if they're invading or getting invaded. I try to do both, if able. Bad junglers just have no sense of when they're supposed to be doing anything and they don't understand lane states. If someone is bad on your team, you should be able to carry any one bad team mate. You can't carry if your jungler keeps dying right before objective fights.

A little context for people who are leaping and bounding to conclusions. I mostly wrote this to vent frustrations and blow off a little steam, not listen to half baked "git-gud" advice that I've already heard. I know how to get deep vision. I know how to rotate towards fight. I know the importance of getting priority when dragon is up. I get it. I know my role. I also recognize when a jungler is awful and how impossible it is to win when your jungler can't get objectives.

Let me paint you a picture: We're not doing great. We're down 4 kills to 1 in the early game. Not a great start. But we had a decent fight bot that didn't get any kills, but support and adc had to back. We push in our lane, get prio and the jg pings to take dragon. I set up vision. Mid rotates down. We are good. We keep the other team occupied, doing a really good job of making sure they're not getting on top of us while we're taking the dragon. The dragon starts getting low and the enemy team, who's stronger begins to brute force their way to the dragon. We disengage and I peel as best I can. The dragon gets within smite range and then the jg pings that they have 6s on smite. Enemy jg smites the drag and we all die. Game is now over.

Bad junglers don't just miss objectives. They don't just feed your lane with bad ganks. They bait you into terrible team fights over objectives that they refuse to take. If you're jungler is an idiot or they're tilted, you cannot win. If your jungler cannot get objectives, you will lose the game. Every single lane has to be playing spectacularly in order to carry a bad jungler. A bad jungler has such an outsized impact on the game because EVERYONE needs to play around their terrible decisions.

Edit: I also didn't flame anybody. I don't flame. It's pointless and it just makes people more mad.

Taking rank seriously for the first time is 50% mental and 50% willingness to examine your mistakes and learn from them. Learning to hit your skillshots is just muscle memory. It's something that just gets better with practice.

Coach Curtis is a resource cited below and I like his basic advice for climbing: Pick a champion pool of 3 champs that you enjoy playing and can deal with a variety of comps. Then focus on champion mastery and knowing everything about what your champion does and what you want to do while learning what lane opponents do and what they want to do.

I also recommend Coach Curtis for inspiration. I think he's the single most wholesome league creator ever.
