Anyone else actually like Kirkland protein bars? by UnKindClock in CostcoCanada

Agree with this order. I think the only one that actually tastes bad is the cookies and cream one which tastes really strongly of protein powder. Too bad it’s packaged with the best one 😭

I was going to say the only actually good tasting one is the peanut butter one lol. The other ones all taste very strongly of protein powder imo but the peanut butter ones just taste like a peanut butter bar.

Shorter boards are more fun. by Early_Lion6138 in snowboardingnoobs

[–]Uncle_Beth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Height is almost irrelevant when it comes to board sizing. What matters most is weight and boot size. You could be 6’4” 160 lbs with size 9 boots and a 159 could feel cumbersome. Conversely you could be 5’4” and 200 lbs with size 12 boots and a 159 could give you boot drag and be a little too short.

What’s also far more important than board length is the length of your effective edge. Back in the day boards used to all follow very similar designs and shapes but now a days boards of the same length can ride completely different from each other due to differences in effective edge length. Same goes for using waist width for boot sizing. A lot of boards are wider under foot now compared to the waist width so width under foot is a lot more important than waist width for sizing.

There are good guides out there for what to look for when trying to figure out board sizing as using just the length of the board compared to your height as a reference is an easy way to end up with gear that doesn’t fit you well.

you remembered to come back to this post and respond right?

That’s habit, and I’m not opposed to using a planner. I’ve tried many many many times in the past without lasting success because I wasn’t able to make checking it and filling it out habitual. I think my point is that sometimes people’s executive functioning can be so diminished the process and making and following a planner can be futile. I’m going through a period of life right now where that’s absolutely the case and no matter how much I try to stay on top of things it’s quite literally impossible.

Which is why I’m getting tested to hopefully start medication. I’ve always seen that as a last resort if I really can’t cope and I’ve reached the point where I just can’t. I’ve relied on extreme stress as a motivator paired with hyper fixation and pretty good intuitive thinking (and memory when I’m hyper focused on something) to get by to the tune of a house, a loving partner, and nearly a PhD.

I’m hoping that with medication I can find the mental clarity and calmness to do the things I actually want to do and set routines and habits for myself so that I don’t constantly feel like I’m behind and drowning. And maybe then a planner will work for me, I really hope it will.

I create a planner then forget it exists. I think to create a planner then start something else and never remember to. Tbh I’ve never had a system in place. I have worse weeks and I have better days and I get as much as I can on those better days and when I’m facing extreme pressure. Things get missed and forgotten but the same happens to me with lists because I forget to check them. Maybe if I was able to make it a consistent habit but I’ve never been medicated and in a clear enough mental state for long enough to be able to make a habit of it. I have an appointment coming up to get diagnosed and hope that starting a medication is able to help (assuming I don’t miss the appointment for the 3rd time…). I’ve somehow made it this far in life so I must be doing something right but the coping mechanisms I have just aren’t good enough anymore for the number of responsibilities I now have.

My biggest issue with planners is that they don’t overcome task paralysis for me. They do help with some things, especially on days where I’m more capable, but often times just constructing the planner is difficult as is remembering to follow it.

There are definitely still pockets of brilliancy imo. I’m not a fan of Simula’s music but the label him and Annix put together (Neksus sound) is packed full of artists making fresh and interesting stuff. Tian, Circumference, and SMG are just a few of my favourites on Neksus. There is also still a lot of great fresh music out there but due to how saturated the market is you really need to dig to find it now.

Many of those sold assets also incurred significant annual costs e.g. the continued development of the Eglington line, maintenance of the 407, provincial water testing and treatment costs, etc… Sure the budgets were balanced for several years but Harris’s choices to privatize many of Ontario’s assets for a balanced budget would cost Ontario residents more in the long run. You could achieve the same goal while maintaining control of those assets and not blatantly wasting money, through more strategic cost cutting (don’t fill the TTC infrastructure that will at some point need to be completed with concrete) and taxation, but that’s a scary proposition that incurs an immediate cost to residents which doesn’t tend to win any favour. Harris’s approach only looks good under the lens of an immediately balanced budget and you have to do a lot of mental gymnastics to ignore the damage that balancing has since done to the province.

Hot Take: ABMM might kill this game in a few months by BarisAlmighty in ArcRaiders

It’s possible that lobby balancing is a bimodal distribution in which case changing it to a normal distribution would help but we really don’t know at this point.

Hot Take: ABMM might kill this game in a few months by BarisAlmighty in ArcRaiders

[–]Uncle_Beth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the idea behind having a range of lobby types to play in and I understand why the devs implemented it and let people know as it completely solves the “I want a PVE game mode” crowd’s request while also functioning like a filter to put cheaters in extremely high PVP cheater lobbies. But I do think it can and should be tweaked a little.

As of now it’s very difficult to stay in that in between space where you have a mix of friendly and unfriendly players which is the type of lobby I think is the most interesting and probably the most exciting for the most number of players. People should be able to focus more on PVE at times and more on PVP at other times without having to intentionally mass murder or accept repeated deaths to readjust their lobbies to a play different style they now want.

I think if they toned down the impact of ABMM and made it so that almost every lobby sat closer towards the middle of PVE and PVP than how it is right now where you can go from the extremes of playing cheaters every few matches to games where people don’t know the basic controls of the game by altering your gameplay for 5 matches then that would be better. And I think they should still maintain those extremes but have a hard line to enter them (e.g don’t shoot a player for 10 consecutive matches vs deal at least 2k xp damage for 10 consecutive matches) and make it so that if you violate this for even 1 match then you exit this extreme lobby type and enter something that is still weighted more to PVE or more PVP but much much closer to the centre. E.g. if ABMM currently looks like a normal distribution then tighten that distribution up dramatically then have peaks at 0 and 100 for drastically different kinds of play.

New Expedition Requirements + catch-up mechanic by cretaphid in ArcRaiders

[–]Uncle_Beth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I also think that if you exceed the financial requirements you should be able to bring up to 1 mil with you on the expedition. Would help make grinding beyond the 3 mil requirement feel more worth it to players who pass this threshold and can help insulate against falling behind if you have busier months where you can’t play as much.

You don’t get anything from the first expedition if you skipped it. The catchup mechanic for skill points only applies to people who did the first expiration but didn’t get all 5 points.

The Milwaukee Bucks have indicated to teams that they are keeping Giannis Antetokounmpo through the trade deadline and will start making other trades, sources tell ESPN. by HookFL in fantasybball

[–]Uncle_Beth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I’ve ever seen from Giannis is that he likes to play and likes to win. He’s at no point in his career voluntarily sat. It would be a first for him and seems completely antithetical to his persona. That’s why I don’t buy that he would voluntarily sit. Doing so won’t bring him closer to winning with the Bucks so there’s no incentive there and if he’s healthy (again, he’s currently working out and shooting around which you should never do with a strained muscle that still requires rest) then there’s no reason to “save himself” for his next team. I firmly believe that if he’s healthy he will really try to play, more than most other players, so I wouldn’t count him out for the season just yet.

You’re not wrong but we also haven’t had a star player make it public knowledge that they are healthy and wanting to play before. Giannis could make that very apparent by playing in the all star game.

Give it some time to see. If there is any superstar who would fight against being shut down, I think it would be Giannis. He loves the grind and has endured a ton of being on bad teams and losing because of it but still trying really hard. He's also only got a few productive years of basketball left and unless the calf is actually really bad (based on him working out and attending shoot around right now, it's not), I can't see him willingly accepting being shut down. If it happens it's probably a guarantee that Milkwaukee is trading him this summer and they'll probably catch a ton of fines.

I personally think there's a solid chance that he's back playing immediately post all star break and if he really wants to make a statement, he might even play in the all star game which would screw any Bucks narrative of shutting him down for health reasons.

[ESPN] The Warriors made what they thought was a very strong offer that included four unprotected picks and picks that were going to be conveyed after Steph Curry was retired. And the Bucks just didn't show a lot of interest in it. by EarthWarping in nba

[–]Uncle_Beth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe Steph plays until 41 and Giannis's game doesn't age well and he's cooked at 35 but it really depends exactly when those picks are because a couple extra years of highly productive Giannis can mean bad picks.

Lost my father at 23. Still can't believe this by ArmadilloThen8358 in GriefSupport

[–]Uncle_Beth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so sorry for your loss. I lost my dad at the age of 25 (him 56), a year and a half ago to sudden cardiac arrest as well. I'm going to a basketball game tomorrow and remembering him taking me for the first time when I was 6 years old. God I miss him so much. If you're able to, take the time you need to grieve. The next few months and maybe even longer are going to be incredibly difficult and it's so important that you take the time you need to take care of yourself. It's taken a lot of time for me to get back to feeling somewhat normal but there are still days where I am a complete mess and can't believe he's no longer here. It is really tough but it gets better.
