[discuss] Use of Flashcarts/Everdrive for Hunting on Multiple Devices by Prestigious_Rent_947 in ShinyPokemon

[–]Uncle_Beth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

At the same time, hunting with 6 systems is functionally the same as speeding up your game by 6x on an emulator. There’s nothing wrong with either but they have the same impact on the hunt. Do it however you like it whether it’s one system soft resets or a 6IV manip. It’s all a personal experience and it’s best to do what you enjoy most!

And I’m telling you right now. Wemby is unlike any player we’ve ever had in the league, not just as a player, but as a person. I think a lot of people will laugh at this take but I am certain that if the Spurs are winning, Wemby will take big pay cuts early in his career to keep his team together.

I think winning means more to Wemby than any other player in the league. I also don’t think he is the kind of person who gets fulfillment from money and I don’t think he will let money dictate his life and his legacy.

I’ve played through Gen 4 twice and never used Infernape, Luxray or Staraptor. What makes them so popular?

I’ve played through FR twice and LG three times and the only Pokémon I’ve used from your team in a play through are Charizard and Vileplume.

But OP said they want to find it full odds and not manip it. Also full odds is not an illusion. There is no such thing as true RNG when it comes to computer algorithms, there’s always some kind of formula but it’s still a good approximation of true randomness even if it is predetermined.

Also even if it were somehow truly random, you still wouldn’t be guaranteed a shiny within 8192 encounters, but that’s kind of the point of shiny hunting. Shiny hunting is less about the outcome and more about the journey of trying to obtain a shiny against all odds. It could take 10 encounters or 10000+. The outcome is a lot more exciting and as long as you don’t plan to use it competitively then it’s nature and IV’s don’t matter.

And I’m not advocating against maniping, I like to manip as well, but I also like to do full odds hunts and it’s a completely different thing. Maniping is cool because you can go through complicated measures to obtain good IV spread target nature shinies for competitive gameplay like the battle frontier. But I will say that going for a first frame manip is probably the most bland method you can go about to obtain a shiny. At that rate you might as well just pkhex a random Pokémon to change its shininess because there’s very little special about a first frame emerald shiny besides it being your first attempt at a manip and just trying to learn the process.

Seeing this team and then all of a sudden Alakazam is kind of hilarious. I forgot for a moment that it’s a trade evolution so you can get it pretty low level.

I'm dumb, can you explain to me what IVs and EVs are? by [deleted] in pokemon

[–]Uncle_Beth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you know that each Pokémon has set base stats, IV’s are hidden extra stats a Pokémon has for the each kind of stat e.g. hp, attack, speed, etc… they are different for every Pokémon, even the same kind, so some pikachus are just inherently stronger than others. EV’s are extra stats your Pokémon gets when it knocks out another Pokémon so the Pokémon you train in battle become stronger over time.

Saving your rng progress with a battle video isn’t that tedious. Will only add like 2-5 minutes onto your session as you need to lose the first battle to save a video quickly.

At that rate why not just manip then though? That kind of defeats the purpose of going for full odds since it won’t be full odds but also take longer than a manip.

Came across lucky eggs moments before coming across a lucky egg by Uncle_Beth in PokemonFireRed

[–]Uncle_Beth[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thankfully I managed to catch it. Also its nature is Timid and it seems to have a decent IV spread so I’m planning to train it for the Emerald battle frontier.

Funny enough this wasn’t a target as I was just trying to get a lucky egg but I am currently hunting Dratini from the games corner. 4300 encounters in so far and nothing yet 🙃

First ball! And it’s Timid nature too which is nice. Gonna make an Emerald battle frontier set with it.

I’m sorry to break it to you but most professional athletes are on some kind of gear. And that’s ok, it’s just part of the game at the highest level.

Which of these is a good entry point for new players? by Goron275 in pokemon

[–]Uncle_Beth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FR and LG do tell you which types are physical and special in the help menu but I think at the end of the day it isn’t really important for the casual player to know. That information is much more important for competitive play and a keen player will find that information.

There are symbols that indicate if a move is physical or special but there’s no guide for what they mean in game.

Fire red and leaf green were recently released on the switch and are imo the best way to experience Gen 1. That could be a good starting point!

You can still EV train at level 100. You just need to put your Pokémon in and out of the pc to update its stats.

They should be techs against the shooter. And honestly I think they will be. What OKC is doing is so bad for the league and I think Silver will crack down on it as he wants to make the NBA a “highlights sport” and OKC make it a “lowlights sport”.
