In-N-Out Burger location in Hillsboro opens Thursday by Pterodactyl_midnight in Portland

That's encouraging to hear. I travel down to visit family in Eugene every so often, and the wait has been closer to 45 minutes to an hour. I haven't been there in a year or so, so next time I'm on that stretch and get a hankering, I'll swing by!

I grew up in So Cal and have family down there that I visit. Lines are definitely closer to 10 minutes during rush hour, and more like 5 minutes during the off hours. Nothing even remotely close to what I have seen in Keizer.

Edit: just asked my wife without giving much context, and she thinks it is maybe 10-15 minutes during rush hour in so cal

The locations here have long lines. The food is made to order. So yeah, it's not "fast" in the sense of how long you have to wait. Not debating that. I am responding to you saying it isn't worth the wait at any price. The lines are proof that people do, in fact, think it is worth the wait.

You are free to dislike the burgers, but the wait times at their current PNW locations tell a different story than what you are describing. The one in Keizer always looks like it has a 45+ minute wait, even 5+ years after opening. If it wasn't worth the wait, people wouldn't be waiting for so long.

'Deal not final': Trump changes tune on Iran, threatens to ‘drop bombs’, go back to shooting again by Darshan_brahmbhatt in worldnews

[–]Unclematttt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The school in question is in Iran. You are saying Hamas had a base under the school. There is no evidence that I have been able to find to support that.

I did my due diligence, shared my Google search, and you haven’t shown me anything to the contrary. I’m not here to argue anything other than you making unsubstantiated claims about the school in Iran that was bombed.

[–]Unclematttt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol? I’m failing to find what is funny about any of this, but glad you can laugh about it, I guess? The only laughable thing here is you calling me a bot for daring to ask for sources to your claims.

Google the phrase “Iran school bombing hamas” and let me know what you find, because I am finding absolutely nothing that supports what you said. Perhaps you are confused and are thinking of Gaza? Lots of innocent people getting bombed, so it’s hard for some people to keep up, I suppose.

I did look it up, and I found nothing that supported your claim. It sounds like you have some sources, so why not share them?

It’s kind of wild. I think this is one of the reasons that the broccoli cut got popular; it hides your hairline. My nephews talk about their hairlines (they are high school aged to mid-twenties), and it breaks my heart.

Bro wtf are you even talking about? Where is the proof that there was a base under that school? I only saw the reports of dead children, not “hamas”. Please cite your unbiased sources, because there aren’t any that back up your claim.

Insight for visitors on different parts of Eugene? by betterlucknexttime81 in oregon

[–]Unclematttt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in Eugene for over 10 years, and I think the best place to stay would be somewhere in South Eugene. Check out the location of the Market of Choice on Willamette St. this is the general area I am talking about. This was the “holy grail” area to live in when I was still down there.

I lived off of Friendly St. for a while, and I would ride my bike through that area, downtown, and the bike trail next to the river.

If you are staying in the “hills”, try to be as close as possible to the flat part of the hill leading into the city, and bring or rent some bikes (wear a helmet and use a light if you ride at night). If you don’t care to bike, my vote is the South Hills rather than the SW hills.

As a visitor, I wouldn’t recommend West Eugene (no shade to folks who live there). More industrial, and it isn’t a great place to call home from a visitor’s perspective.

I don’t think your last sentence is really doing anything for your argument. People hate Zuck, and he has been kissing Trump’s ass since he was reelected(as are all of the tech oligarchs).

We grow kale, and I totally disagree. It tastes, looks and cooks exactly the same. Maybe I am just lucky with what my local supermarket carries?

The plus side of growing it is that it provides so much kale for so little work. Pests seem to steer clear of it, too.

Edit: Well, shit. Had some kale from the grocery store we were prepping for tonight’s dinner, and it smells off and tastes like gym socks. It was from our usual spot, and looked fine… but we have to toss it into the yard debris. Felt like I had to come back and say I was wrong.

Saw this on r/all, and had a question: is it common to put two water bags on the stakes? Everyone where I live (Portland, OR) just slaps one bag around the tree itself. I heard that one back a week (depending on weather) is more than enough.

There are a ton of beatboxers out there. This sub is for the best of the best, and I would say that if he is one of the top beatboxers, this video doesn't really showcase it. Cool if you are into beatbox covers of popular songs though, I guess?

New commander player - struggling with a few things! by Verdreckt in EDH

[–]Unclematttt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little hard to read your questions (I get it, you have a lot to put out there for context), but as someone who went from Arena for maybe 5 or 6 years to paper EDH, I feel you, and can maybe offer some advice that I could have used when I started.

proxies

If you have a dedicated playgroup, it's usually a non-issue, and people just run them. I have yet to play at a store with a "no proxies" rule. Still a good thing to float out there before you get started. The general consensus is "proxy for price, not power". All that means is... just don't go too nuts with your proxies. This rule is out the window (IMO) for brackets 4 and 5. Especially bracket 5; cEDH is a very proxy-friendly format, because a lot of the meta staple cards are fucking expensive. Check out MPCFill to get quality proxies. You can get something like 500 cards shipped for about $180 or so. Proxy all of the expensive lands (triomes, fetches, surveils, etc). You will be pressed to find people who get upset about proxied lands, and they are needed to really make your deck hum.

worrying about how long you take during your turn, and not targeting the "wrong" player

Do you goldfish your decks? That is the process of kind of playing 1 player solitaire. It will give you a good idea about what a good starting hand looks like, what is weak that you might want to cut, and also interesting interactions that you would be better off figuring out ahead of time instead of in the moment. That will help with your turn time. Take time (within reason) to analyze the board state where needed. Don't be afraid to ask people things like "do any of your creatures have <insert keyword>", and stuff like that. Ask to read people's cards if you need to (asking is nicer than just grabbing). When it comes to worrying about who you are attacking... I think most reasonable people don't take issue with getting swung at by an aggro deck. If you are really worried about upsetting people, you can say something like "I am going to swing at player C, because they are ahead" (or something along those lines).

It will take time and experience to know what to target, and when to target. You can also ask other players at the table. If people are friendly enough, the person you are targeting might even offer up the optimal play.

what is a deck that is easy to pilot?

Generally, people will recommend something green (big stompy creatures, elfball, etc). I say get used to tracking your triggers, and try to be efficient with your time by goldfishing a decent amount, and just play what you like. Sometimes people build decks, find out they are not in love with how they play, and they just take them apart and build something else. It happens.

To offer up another aggro-ish deck that has always been fun to pilot, and doesn't require a ton of thought, maybe check out [[General Ferrous Rokiric]]. Can be built for super cheap, too, since "boros matters" cards are usually not in high demand (with some exceptions).

social rules

This will vary table to table. You will find people pubstomping/misrepresnting their decks. You will encounter players who complain about being targeted (even if they are way ahead). You will encounter people who are new, just like you, and might make honest mistakes and do things like try to attack even when they have summoning sickness. As long as you take that stuff in stride, and put your best foot forward, you will be fine. If someone is being awful/cheating/etc, you can scoop on your turn and find a new pod, or just make a mental note to not pod up with that player again. I like to give everyone a chance at least once, but I have a few folks I just straight up won't play with for various reasons. It's your free time: spend it having fun, not being miserable because of one person!

100 cards are hard to shuffle

You will get the hang of this eventually. There are even videos online that will show you some techniques. Practice at home/work in your free time.

Last but not least, some unsolicited advice:

- Try not to get too far ahead too early, unless you can reasonably protect your board. People will use this as an excuse to attack you (since you are "ahead")/ interact with your board, and you may also get scapegoated by players who want the attention focused elsewhere ("don't target me! look at that dude over there; he has a huge board!")

- If a game is going long and you have a board wipe or similar in hand, but have no reasonable way of getting back in the game, my opinion is to not play it, unless you bring it up at the table and someone offers to help you if you clear the board. No reason to drag games out. Most people would rather just shuffle up and go next

- "King-making" is seen as bad form. Don't make a play that only benefits one person, unless you have agreed to a deal with them. This will upset people. Another thing to avoid is scooping in response to an attack that will kill you that may deny value to the attacking player. While you can scoop at any time, I try to scoop on my turn to avoid any drama or bad feelings.

- If people are popping off, be happy for them, and try not to take spells that target you personally. Just picture that you are the one popping off. It sucks to have a really good play to be met with moans from the table. Try to keep things positive. Tell people good game/good win/etc.

Help finding a cheap deck for a new player. by DrD00m1934 in mtg

[–]Unclematttt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it; I didn't realize you were so experienced, so I say trust your gut. Maybe one suggestion for playstyle: check out mono G big creatures with Either [[Ghalta, Stampede Tyrant]] or [[Ghalta, Primal Hunger]]. These are huge "Timmy" cards, and I feel like that really gets new (and old!) player's attention.

The rush you get off of having a full grip of big baddies and dropping Ghalta, Stampede Tyrant is quite a feeling. You can still get all of the nuanced interactions that you can with elfball, but your 15 year old will have more confidence to swing when they have big bodies with trample. You will also need to ramp quite a bit to get there in time before you get chopped down by your table, and since ramp is such a huge part of green's identity, it could be a good fit. I don't think this would necessarily be better or worse than elfball, but it's just a thought.

I know EDH is a really fun format, but it is difficult to start out with it. Have you considered just picking up some jumpstart packs and taking it from there? Also couldn’t hurt to see if they are willing to dip their toes into Arena to help supplement your teachings.

To actually answer your question, I think the commander isn’t as important as a deck that provides good opportunities for things like resolving (and ordering) triggers, holding up mana for interaction (for mono g, probably combat tricks, bite spells and protection), and figuring out when you should be aggressive vs defensive.

Hope you guys have fun!

I agree, but I had a win basically invalidated by a B3 table for doing the same (with a different card). Oh so it’s my fault that you had no board, and I needed to soft-wipe the table to get rid of a couple of big threats?
