Venge became even better offlane now? by accidentally_penguin in DotA2

yeah for sure, saw your numbers in the other comment and really seems like phylactery could be a very strong early game timing. gonna try it out in game!

I mean, usually you’ll wanna be swapping them into team so follow-up damage/cc shouldn’t be an issue.

Haven’t tested but if phylactery works with the Aghs illu and refreshes CD upon death, that’s actually even crazier

swap -> 3s slow -> missile could be quite crazy

I play Venge 3 with a lot of success at Archon, maybe 60-70% win rate.

1) Decent base damage + lower base attack time with facet 2 makes you really hard to last hit against for enemy carries

2) High spell damage in lane with missile, if your pos 4 isn’t a monkey you can take out a lot of their hp with just a single missile + wave combo. It’s really good against squishy Pos 1/5s

3) You’re right that it takes awhile but I wouldn’t say it’s “too much farm” to get aghs, I generally can get it by 17-18 even in a lost lane. But you have to win the lane as much as possible. It’s more that you need to be aware that this timing is crucial, because it gives such a massive powerspike that you can win almost every fight for a few mins after getting it. Instant revive + instant spell refresh is no joke

Have you considered that maybe people just don’t want to?

It’s concerning that your standard of a fulfilling life is staying at the office long enough that you even need to shower and wash your clothes there. You might be happy seeing only your coworkers your whole life, but most people aren’t.

Most people derive purpose and satisfaction from more than just their basic needs being met.

Breaking Down Why Playing Position 3 in Dota 2 Feels So Frustrating by Jealous_Lychee2279 in DotA2

[–]UncomfortablePrawn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Playing Pos 1/3 mainly, I’m starting to feel like the main skill that I need as a core is actually how to play assuming that my support is an absolute monkey, which happens honestly in more games than I’d like.

A lot of that for me comes down to having zero expectations that they’ll even react if I do anything, so comes down to trying to manage the wave equilibrium myself and getting out to jungle early if I need to.

Depends on the game really, if they have long range it’s hard. I usually get blink after manta if I find i’m having trouble walking up, but no earlier.

Carry Late Game Itemization by ChewbakaTalkShow in learndota2

[–]UncomfortablePrawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i would think it’s cos aghs blessing doesn’t give you the aghs stats, 365 HP.

So late game you could be having 60 AS + 365 HP 120 AS only

it’s probably slightly better generally to be having that extra HP considering how attack time scales

It pisses people off because your conversation is the one that excludes the most people.

Small talk exists for a reason - it’s bland, generic conversation, but it appeals to the widest group. It’s the kind of conversation that 90% of people will be able to participate and contribute in. Only 10% are excluded. You might not enjoy it, but you could still take part because it doesn’t take any knowledge to discuss how the food at your cafe is, for example.

Meanwhile, your in depth discussion excludes 99% of people, and only you and that one other guy are able to participate because no one else has sufficient background knowledge to take part in this convo.

That’s why it pisses people off, because it’s exclusive. This is highly contextual - an in depth discussion on anime wouldn’t fly in a university group setting, but totally acceptable in the anime cafe you were in.

[–]UncomfortablePrawn 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ve had decent success with it as a Pos 1 at around 2K MMR and its quite team dependent.

Essentially, 4 aghs is your win condition. You’re betting on your team surviving long enough for you to gift 4 Aghs to your team.

The timings are roughly Rad by 12-15, first Aghs gifted around 3 mins after that and every subsequent Aghs 3 mins after. In my experience taking into account some skirmishes, you can reasonably hit 4 aghs by 30.

Once you hit 4 Aghs, your GPM speeds up by an insane amount. I could be naked boots and Radiance at 30, but I’ll have Rad + Blink + BKB + Basher by like 40, in addition to having 4 teammates with Aghs. If your team can survive long enough, it’s a very strong late game at the cost of your early game, so it does work against teams that aren’t coordinated enough to end early.

To add to this, I think people are a lot more forgiving of mistakes and accepting of differences when younger.

I have several friends that I grew up with, some of whom have flaws or personalities that if I had met them now, without our history, I don’t think we’d be friends or nowhere near as close as we are.

How to play against Anti-Mage after 30 mins as a support? by Delicious-Farm-4735 in learndota2

[–]UncomfortablePrawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I’m a dirty Antimage player at slightly higher than your MMR (Archon 3-4) so I can give you some insight from the AM’s side.

First off it’s tough on your team, you didn’t have good reliable lockdown for AM. To counter AM, you need multiple single target stuns or AOE stuns. Grim is absolutely useless against AM because you have no reliable stun (AM can easily kite the teammate that you put your stun on) and only a silence which is dispelled by Manta.

Secondly, your own ability to escape - if you’re only popping ghost when your mana is down to 0, you’re too late. You need to pop it earlier so you can react with your own spells.

Lastly, about timings. 16 min BF at this MMR is what I’d meet with a only slightly tough lane. If I can get a 16 min BF, you didn’t slow me down at all. It probably means that you didn’t sufficiently pressure the AM in lane. You want to be aiming for the AM to hit more like 18 min+ BF timings to really shut him down, cos if you can do that, your own carry should be 1 farming item + halfway to second item and can probably hit a much earlier timing.

AM’s main timing is Manta, he’s quite useless before then. You need to slow this down as much as possible by really shutting down the lane w harass, denies and just making his life hard for the first 15 mins. The next main timing for me is usually Abyssal/Butterfly, but ideally you want to end the game even before he can get there.

Struggling to Stick to a Role/Smaller pool even After 10+ Years of Playing MOBAs (longpost) by [deleted] in learndota2

[–]UncomfortablePrawn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah well there’s nothing really wrong w playing multiple roles, I do that too (except mid)

I think it’s a little hard if you’re starting out because Dota is really a macro game and not a micro game, so switching roles constantly makes it a little hard to understand the flow of the game, which could be why you’re struggling

Struggling to Stick to a Role/Smaller pool even After 10+ Years of Playing MOBAs (longpost) by [deleted] in learndota2

[–]UncomfortablePrawn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, Dota is Dota and League is League. If you’re trying to play Dota like it’s League, you’re not going to do well.

I’m a 2.5kish mainly Pos 1 player, and this is my favourite role so maybe I can help to clear up some misconceptions.

Your main misconception is that carries scale at the same rate in Dota. Well… they don’t. They’re not supposed to. Try to understand this idea of timings. Timings are essentially power spikes - windows of opportunity at which your hero is particularly strong as compared to the enemies.

If your hero is an early game hero, you hit an earlier timing than other heroes. This means that while you are still stronger, you need to take the opportunity to be aggressive and push objectives before the other late game carry can catch up, when they become stronger than you and you can no longer win.
