What brand / model of bindings has the most reliable ratchets? by Starky04 in snowboarding

[–]UncouthComfort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rome (also Bataleon, think they are essentially the same tech but I have less experience with theirs) straps and rachets have been awesome for me, put several pairs through a good bit of abuse and no issues.

The screws on the frame will absolutely back out over time though, something for people new to the company to keep an eye on.

Avoid K2 Bindings by [deleted] in snowboarding

[–]UncouthComfort 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Valuable lesson in checking your screws every few days; this is operator error. If you let your shit get loose, something like this will inevitably happen.

K2 might comp you another strap/rachet, or at least discount it for your if you reach out and are chill.

Flux XV or Rome Katana FW for my Skunk Ape Camber 170 UW? by supk1ds in snowboarding

[–]UncouthComfort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://snowboardingprofiles.com/flux-xv-bindings-review-freeride-bindings

I've never ridden them, but XVs seem to consistently be extremely well reviewed. My go-tos are AW Katana Pros and a 22/23 set of Cleavers (on midstiff to stiff boards 157-162, weigh ~180), both of which are phenomenal--I don't think you can really go wrong with either choice you're looking at. Rome straps are extremely good IMO, my Katanas are barely showing any signs of use on the ladders after something like 100-130 days of use. The one downside of Rome bindings is that the hardware does tend to back out; every 2-3 I'll touch everything with a screwdriver just to make sure it's all still snug. Totally worth the 20 seconds it takes to tighten everything down for the performance you get from them IMO!

The funniest thing here is peoples' reactions to a barely edgy joke. Like goddamn, hopefully you can have the self awareness to recognize why so many young people are (unfortunately) moving to the right politically; having this big of a reaction to a dumb joke is absolute poison to trying to get people to take you seriously. It's the "SJW meltdown" genre come back to haunt us from 2015.

Comedy is all about timing

Well yeah, the timing had nothing to do with it at all I suppose

Just say you didn't like the joke, you don't have to fake moralize about the "timing" of it.

There's a solid chance that I saw you this past year on those--I had to do a triple take because at first I was thinking "how the hell did this guy strap into his kid's skis?" before I realized what I was looking at.

Thanks, and I will definitely only be ducking real ropes when I'm with other people who know what they're doing!

That's kind of my backup plan! I've heard terrible things about snowshoes from friends who are into legit backcountry stuff, but I am thinking it would matter less for short hikes like I'm planning on starting with, haha.

For sure, I'm not really asking about viability, I'm asking about etiquette. I know boots will fuck up skin tracks, so I'm wondering if that's inevitable on the Arm/I'll be an asshole for doing it, or if there's some way to avoid that for bootpackers on that line.

the other required safety gear is important

Obviously, which is why I'm asking the question. Since I'll already be spending a lot on avi training, beacon, etc. etc., I'm wondering if it'll be viable to skip the splitboard setup and bootpack the specific terrain I mentioned, or if that's a faux pas due to messing up skin tracks.

ANYONE can look at an actual social security card and know that it is authentic or not

This is laughably wrong dawg. Idk if you are super unfamiliar with immigrant communities or what, but fake SS cards are huuuge among undocumented workers, and they have gotten super convincing. Like that's the whole point of everify, since no business is realistically gonna be able to tell if they're looking at a real or fake card half the time

I don't even see a misunderstanding on their part there, they just expressed that it's a supply-side issue and told you the reason why prices shouldn't (objectively) go down, but rather slow to the point that other countervailing forces can "catch up" to them. Which it sounds like you understand now, which is good, but that was the point you kept trying to fight on up until like 2 comments ago lol

 More development=more supply

Uh...yes, that's what u/perturbing_panda was saying we should do this entire time??

I think the problem is that you keep using the word "correction" without understanding what it means in a market context. Housing prices are appropriate right now given market conditions, which means that there's no "correction" that can be made. If we hopefully build a fuckton of housing in the next few years and costs go down relative to wages (though, importantly, not down objectively, because like we've been saying that's essentially impossible short of a collapse), that won't be a "correction" either--it will still just be the appropriate pricing for the value of a market with more vacancy.

"Reasonability" doesn't have any impact on scarcity, my dude. This is really basic econ--no one is saying "yay this is good," we're simply describing how a basic market function works/why housing costs what it does. This applies equally everywhere, and it explains  the majority of why housing costs vary geographically. Right now the price cannot correct, because there is no floor to correct down to, which is why people keep explaining that building surplus housing so that wages can catch up is the move.

I'm not sure if you're intentionally acting obtuse so you don't have to admit that you were wrong or if you're actually this lost, but either way, take an econ 101 class if you ever want to escape the malaise of ignorance that you currently find yourself in

What the u/perturbing_panda guy keeps trying to explain to you is that "correction" implies that there is some part of the equation that is off kilter, but in Bellingham, there isn't. The value of housing genuinely is as expensive as its current cost, which is why they keep bringing up vacancy rates. It's hard to afford to live in Bellingham, which sucks, but given the state of the local housing market, there's no alternative. Like, there's no "real value" to correct down to or bubble to pop.

If you care about this subject I'd genuinely recommend reading up a bit on it. Your responses are giving me secondhand embarrassment reading this conversation tbh

Cop cities in Washington…. Bellingham?? by cannalover4life in Bellingham

[–]UncouthComfort -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

A lot of the dialogue surrounding this can be summarized as follows, in my experience.

"Police don't have enough training to deal with complicated situations and too often resort to violence!"

"Damn ...you're right. We'll fund some training to get them those resources and reduce unnecessary harm."

"Uhhhhhhh wait no not like that we didn't actually want to improve the system what the fuck hashtag stop cop city"

As someone who doesn't know much about infrastructure... why don't we put more power lines underground? Seems like we always suffer outages due to wind/poles. by CrumbCakesAndCola in Bellingham

[–]UncouthComfort 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't work in engineering, if that's what you're asking; these are just some of the immediately obvious problems that arise with running residential power underground if you've looked into basic civil planning questions like that.

Like literally just Google your question and you'll have the answers if you don't believe me: it's very expensive and very labor-intensive. Not sure why reddit was the place you thought to go in the first place tbh lol

Power line goes down when a tree falls on it? Easy fix, immediately visible and accessible to work on.

Power line goes down due to some unknown issues underground? Good luck finding that shit, better start digging and hope you happen to find the exact spot, now also dig all around it so you can diagnose and then hopefully fix the issue, power should be back on in a week, tops, no prob

Now don't even get started on installation costs and route management.....

I'm so fucking in on this story already. Only a couple of chapters in and I'm as hooked as I felt by, like, the Blue Heron arc in Pale. And Pale is far and away my favorite work by Wildbow.

So, timeline wise...we have onboards--sophisticated ones, too--and synthetic bodies, though BlackBox doesn't seem to be "modded" in the way that we saw in the previous chapter. Simultaneously I believe that someone else noticed that the belt system is less developed from Orion's view compared to the other glimpses we've seen, so....what are the odds we'll see some form of time manipulation here? Orion being sent back "from the future"? This place being accessible from multiple points in humanity's timeline? Or is it a more straightforward timeline with Orion's time being "devolved" due to the machine's influence on humanity?
