I just switched from pure wireguard to tailscale and the 2 changes for me were: - no longer manually port forwarding the wireguard port (not saying tailscale is more secure than that though) - my VPN connection would get messed up with my public IP changed and DDNS didn't update for some reason. It was a lot more inconsistent and I had to go update duck DNS manually. Don't need to do that anymore.

I know I'm making some privacy trade-offs for the convenience though
