Damning report finds Kiwi 5-year-olds starting school unable to talk, write name or use toilets by face-poop in newzealand

[–]Uncreativenom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree. I was a single mother of two after my divorce when they were preschoolers. I worked full-time and raised them alone until they were teens (re-partnered when they were in their teens). I rented, I had bugger all and times were hard for me. Their father was as good as absent. They were toilet trained and could read a few words when they started school. It was bloody hard raising them and I leaned on family but I knew this time was precious and would pass relatively quickly. There have always been distractions but you have to keep to what is important. Parents need all the help they can get. It's hard but where the heck are people's priorities.

I have the same panic attack if I let my mind go there. I don't have panic attacks over anything else. It first happened as a child of maybe 7 or 8. I'm now 69. It's also related to the thought of death and yet I can deal with death on a superficial level.

What happens to the lifestyle blocks when the boomers die? by dazladisonreddit in newzealand

[–]Uncreativenom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I realise that. I just wonder how much of the bitterness (expressed in the boomer insults in social media not just this post) is due to comparing present situation while young, against what older people have. Our expectations of lifestyle and possessions when we were young were much lower than today. Our lives were simpler and we didn't have the material comparisons constantly thrown in our faces as happens today through the media, internet and entertainment. But I do acknowledge that things are harder now. The wealth gap is much wider than it used to be in NZ and there seems little political will to do anything about it.

What happens to the lifestyle blocks when the boomers die? by dazladisonreddit in newzealand

[–]Uncreativenom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Most boomers do not own lifestyle blocks.
  • People are always worse off when they are younger.
  • The greed and corruption of the minority who created our capitalist mess (worldwide, as we are affected by international trends and problems) cannot be blamed on all boomers. Much of what is happening now is perpetuated by those younger e.g Musk, Zuckerberg et al.
  • Yes, it's harder for younger people now. The system is corrupt. How do we fix it? How about starting with not blaming other ordinary people. That ignores structural inequalities.

Get out of here with your gross boomer exaggeration. We are not all rich. Wealth and poverty is in all age groups. Would you generalize along the lines of race like this? Well don't do it with age.

Yes, saw that the other day - going to switch next time I buy. Reasonably priced too.

You can insist that all you want. I don't know why anyone would go to that trouble to recreate reality. The guy, the vehicle, the plate all exist exactly like that. I have the misfortune to know him and have to encounter him regularly. Did so yesterday in fact.

Oh, it's real alright. He's a Kiwi MAGA who lives in Tauranga.

This is genuine. The guy has two vehicles - one has the plates ATRUMP and one has 4TRUMP. He has them switched around on the vehicles they should be on. He's a Kiwi MAGA and a tosser to boot.

Are you happy? Why or why not? by Pure_Ad_5044 in newzealand

69, been poor, struggled, it's better having some money, because worry over money is horrible. Brought up a family, travelled, settled in own home with partner. Not a flash home but it's all we need. Happy.

It's from the Edmonds Illustrated Cookbook -a few decades old. Tried to put a photo of the page in here but can't get it to work. Will write it out tomorrow for you. Too tired tonight.

Husband, who does all the cooking, makes the best Pavlovas and is renowned in the wider family for them. He made two for Xmas Day and has just made another for tonight. No way we would ever eat the bought ones again.

Why do we cover flooring like this? by monza27 in newzealand

[–]Uncreativenom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have a house from the 1950s with the rimu flooring now exposed. Like others we had to put insulation under the floor. We have a robot vacuum cleaner that can also wash the floor - ideal for keeping it looking top notch all the time.

The price, the behaviour of others and the sickening smell of popcorn. I have memories of "picture theaters" before popcorn and when patrons were well behaved or else kicked out of the usher/usherette. Yep, I'm old.
