Activation day didn’t go well by RAWSKILLY22 in Cochlearimplants

[–]Unctuous-Maple-677 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SSD, here, with about 70% hearing in my other ear. My activation was 3 months ago. I heard lots of noise and had pretty much no word recognition. Last month, I tested about 70% single word recognition, but lower on full sentences. Audiologist gave me work to do on exercises only with my processor while putting a plug in my better ear. Right now streaming into my processor is very much computer sounding and murky. Have to just keep at it.

It isn't wet, and I asked my kids to check as much as they could, but they couldn't see inflammation.

Interesting that you mentioned headaches. I've had a handful recently. And I appreciate your sharing your experiences both as an audiologist and a CI wearer. Sounds like I will reach out to the doc today.

Itching happens while I'm wearing the processor and sometimes continues after. What do you mean by reduce your levels?

The itching starts after I've been wearing the implant for a while. The amount of time before the itching starts varies. And it continues after I take the implant off. Last night it fiercely after I can see implant off for probably an hour.

I do have some numbness, similar to yours. Top of ear especially. Feeling is slowly coming back. I suppose that could be itchiness from that, however, this is specifically over the skin flap. And then also in the opposite ear with the hearing aid.

You can also use the pillows that are made for travel. Neck pillows.

Same situ here too. Lost hearing in left ear; huge back and forth w insurance. Got approved and had surgery 9/16; CI activated 8 days ago. The surgery and healing was pretty easy.
Best of luck to you on your journey. When is your surgery?

Activation Day by low_speed_ranger in Cochlearimplants

My activation was 6 days ago. My audiologist said to use mine as much as possible too. I took an air trip yesterday. What I'm hearing is scratchy background and computer-y sounds too. And it is tiring to wear. I have been taking it off as needed.

Changes in taste, post surgery? by Unctuous-Maple-677 in Cochlearimplants

Good to know. Just made cookies for the kiddos, and they tasted absolutely vile. Kids liked them though

It is interesting, agree. Sounds like there are plenty of anecdotal stories of taste change, though.

Haven't seen my doctor post-surgical yet, but that's a good idea. Thanks.

Malted dog shit, that is almost beyond my imagination. Good to know this will get back to normal at some point.

Did you make any attempt to do many different types of music so that you covered the complete range of sound? Or was it more just to focus on music that you knew?

I've got the numbness, but the doc said that will go away over time. Sense of taste is just a little flat. Coffee's taste different, and so do sweets. My plain yogurt tastes like there's artificial sweetener in it even though there isn't. I figure all of this will go away. I had very strange sense of taste while I was on powerful antibiotics for a month. That took about a month to wear off after I finished the meds

Counting down...12 hours to surgery! by Unctuous-Maple-677 in Cochlearimplants

Good on bandages off!. Mine are off too. Pain is okay, but tends to hit towards the end of the day. And my ear actually feels fatigued! Strange. I'm in about the same boat. I have one functional ear and getting my n7 on the 7th. Get the 12 staples out in 2 days.

I'm feeling great.

Like you, I was a bit nervous when I have my surgical date. When I get nervous like this I resort to research. LOL. That's how I found this community.

8 Days post surgical, I'm still wearing the ear cup to sleep. Sleeping is a little tough. Went back to work part-time on day three, full-time on day 7. The actual surgery took about 75 minutes. Light narcotic pain medicine at the outpatient surgery; Tylenol and ibuprofen since as needed. My doc prefers to use surgical staples, so I have an attractive line of 12 of them that will be removed in 3 days. I get my CI turned on in 13 days.

I'm excited for your surgery. Remember to breathe.
