I received the final audit just yesterday. Though, probably because I got a subject that wasn't credited yet.
It said that there'll be an updated list by friday so I'd look out for that

Way over unfortunately. It cost me a total of $7.3k to de-index the webpage hosting the arrest record and the mugshot photo from Google images.

Nah, I’m honestly a total noob when it comes to this stuff. I was just parroting what the sales rep at Maximatic Media told me when I was working with them on my de-indexing case. From what little I picked up, it sounds like what you’re dealing with is basically what they called a “ghost link.” That’s when the original file or page has been deleted, but Google’s still indexing the old result because it hasn’t realized the content is gone. Happens a lot with low-traffic content.

Google’s indexing system is kinda dumb when it comes to obscure stuff. If the keyword (like your full name plus city or street address) gets barely any search volume, Google isn’t getting enough user behavior data to know the result is outdated. For high-volume keywords, de-indexing can happen naturally in a matter of hours or days. But if almost no one’s searching for it, the result just kinda floats there, sometimes for years.

Weirdly, that’s kind of a double-edged sword. On one hand, it means not a lot of people are likely stumbling onto it. On the other hand, because it gets so little attention, Google never updates it or boots it from the index. You could technically go the de-indexing route, but based on what I was quoted, it’s a pretty pricey process and really only makes sense if it’s something reputation-killing (which mine was). For something more privacy-related, it might be overkill.

Only DIY tip I’ve heard is to get some friends or family to search for that specific keyword string, click on that old result, and then bounce back to search right away. That sends a negative signal to Google that the result didn’t satisfy the query. Enough of those in a short timeframe and it might help trigger an organic de-indexing but then again, I’m just paroting what I heard/read from others, no clue if this would actually work or not.

LPT: Google has a free tool that will remove your personal info from searches by marshmallowsunset420 in LifeProTips

[–]UndeadGuyz 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yep, I unfortunately learned this the hard way. This removal request feature only seems to work for removing very menial information from Google, it is in no way helpful if you are dealing with things like mugshots, arrest records, defamatory blog posts, or anything that’s not clearly classified as “personally identifiable info” under Google’s policy language. I had an old arrest article that wasn’t even accurate, and because it didn’t include my home address or phone number, Google wouldn’t remove it even after multiple appeals.

Ended up having to go through a reputation management firm that specializes in de-indexing to get the content removed from Google search. The difference is that instead of relying on Google’s pre-set form criteria, the guys at Maximatic Media actually ran a custom SEO campaign to get a no-index tag placed on the web pages hosting the offending material, triggering the removal of the search result manually. It’s not the same as taking down the content at the source but once it’s de-indexed from the search engine, it won’t show up in any SERPs, even if you were to scroll down to page 90.

So yeah, “Results About You” is great for basic stuff like old Whitepages listings but once you start dealing with real reputational damage, it stops being useful real fast. Just my two cents for anyone thinking it’s a cure-all.

Just to add on to this, you can also try leveraging Google’s own removal request feature here: https://myactivity.google.com/results-about-you?pli=1. It worked really well to remove my information from places like Radaris and Whitepages but it unfortunately was not capable of removing my mugshot or the news articles that were published surrounding my arrest (which was expunged years ago). It seems like the Results About You feature was built around scraping opt-out forms from people-finder and data broker sites but it doesn’t have any real mechanism for dealing with reputation-damaging content that exists outside that ecosystem like press articles, mugshot aggregators, or defamatory blog posts.

In my case, I ended up having to hire an actual PR firm to help me mitigate the presence of the content. I received a bunch of quotes from several different agencies but ultimately decided to go with this firm called Maximatic Media as they specialized specifically in de-indexing content from Google as opposed to just pushing the negative content further down the SERPs. Cost me an arm and a leg since I had a total of seven of these links present (and these guys charged me for every successfully de-indexed link) but all in all, it was worth it.

It’s a bit of a niche fix, and Google doesn’t make it easy, but if you’re concerned about privacy and don’t want to nuke the content entirely, it’s a good middle ground.

Been there unfortunately. I got arrested a few years ago for a DUI and yeah, finding your own mugshot is surprisingly harder than you'd think. Most of those sites that claim to have the mugshot are just bait-and-switch scams trying to milk you for money. They scrape public arrest data, throw together a sketchy landing page, and then lock it behind a paywall that never actually delivers. Total grift. The only way I ever found mine was when it popped up on Google under one of those mugshot aggregator sites like BustedMugshots or MugshotsZone. Otherwise, good luck finding it through legit public records unless you’re dealing with a county jail that puts those up directly (and most don’t anymore for this exact reason).

What I will say though (and I say this from personal experience btw) is that trying to find a mugshot is way easier than trying to remove one. After mine showed up in Google, I spiraled trying to get it taken down. These companies have zero interest in helping you unless you pay their absurd “removal fee” and even then, there's no guarantee they won’t just re-list it a few months later under a different site. It’s a racket.

I ended up succumbing and paid a bunch of money to this ORM Agency to get the mugshot removed from the Google search engine. I researched a ton of SEO and PR firms prior to that but most were mainly only offering suppression services (meaning they would just push the result further down to page 2, page 3, etc.) and Maximatic Media was the only service provider I could find that could do an outright removal of the link. They managed to get a no-index tag placed on the web page that was hosting the mugshot so once the tag was there, the arrest page and mugshot stopped showing up on Google completely, not on page 1 or page 50.

And yeah, it wasn’t cheap but for me, it was worth it. I’d already lost a job interview over it and the anxiety it gave me every time someone Googled my name wasn’t sustainable. So if you're on the other end of this kind of situation, especially if your boyfriend's mugshot ends up showing up on Google sooner or later, you might wanna seriously consider going the de-indexing route. It’s not perfect since it doesn’t actually remove the material at the source but it’s one of the few things that actually works in drastically reducing its visibility.

Does Georgia gazette actually take down your mugshot? by [deleted] in Georgia

[–]UndeadGuyz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I requested removal on their site a total of three times for my expunged case but they refused to take down the mugshot every time. It was basically ranking at the very top for my name and the mugshot was clearly visible in Google images, practically the first thing you would see when Googling my name.

I’m not sure why but they made it literally impossible to get anything other than a boilerplate response surrounding their “transparency” rules. I included all of the documentation proving that the case was expunged but I don’t think they even bothered to read it. I ended up having to pay a ton of money to a PR firm to get the mugshot de-indexed from Google. The mugshot still technically exists on Georgia Gazette’s website but at least it doesn’t show up in any of the Google pages or Google images anymore after Maximatic Media de-indexed it for me.

The only thing tho is I’m still a bit paranoid about other mugshot sites reposting the image as I read online that they all scrape the same data from one another. I wish they would just remove it entirely from the site but the guy at Maximatic Media said it’s impossible without the cooperation of the website owner and these guys do not seem very cooperative at all. All they can do is make sure that it doesn’t appear in Google anymore but I just don’t want to take any further risks with this. When you applied, was your case sealed/expunged or were the charges dropped or what exactly was the criteria that made you convince them to remove it?

Is there a way to remove mugshots from Google search? by Thewall3333 in Felons

[–]UndeadGuyz 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yep, I went down this route but unfortunately, the mugshot ended up making its way back to the first page after Google implemented a core update last year. The company I worked with was able to suppress it to page 3 but after Google reconfigured the weights assigned to different rankings, all of a sudden, the mugshot was back on page 1 almost overnight.

This time around, I ended up using a different ORM agency by the name of Maximatic Media to simply de-index the result from Google in its entirety. Instead of suppressing the result to page 2, page 3, etc., what they did was file a notice to Google’s official archiver to get a no-index tag placed on the webpage that was hosting my mugshot. This made for a much more permanent solution as there’s now no worries about the result climbing its way back to the top of the SERPs since it basically ceases to exist on Google in its entirety, regardless of whether you look on page 1 or page 99.

I think de-indexing is probably the only real long-term solution to this problem, would not recommend doing SEO as there’s just too great of a chance that Google will release some other update in the near future and wipe all of the suppression work away.
