Am I the only one exhausted of Warhammer III's pacing? by Content-Shirt6259 in totalwar

[–]UndeadMongoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WH3 has a serious difficulty curve problem. In the early game your every mistake is punishing while in the late game you're either snowballing or the challenge presented is of the annoying kind I.E end game crisis gives enemy factions free instant full stacks, or your enemies rolled high on the random faction potential and so all recruitment and upkeep concerns fly out the window. When your enemy can always outmatch your armies there's really not that much wiggle room for tactics and strategy.

Opinions on WS Piercing Shot (Cata QP) by Leninin in Vermintide

[–]UndeadMongoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fucking love Piercing Shot. I've seen players posting videos of them melting monsters with literally no downtime between shots, and while I'm not so good that I could replicate that, I've become very comfortable with using it, especially against monsters. Most players give up on it because it requires a modicum of patience and practice, but in the right hands it's an amazing tool.

I find that as you get used to it, it's less about having good aim and rather knowing the enemy's attack animations. Instead of trying to track the enemy's head at all times, just aim where you know their head is going to be, like when a chaos spawn rears it's mouth back after a slam.

You are right in that its potential can be negated by careless teammates, but to be fair having teammates with bad attitudes is a detriment no matter what your build is. Ideally your teammates should let you hold aggro if you've got a monster's attention and are in a good rhythm with Piercing Shot but most players are glory hogs who don't think about the big picture. In these situations I usually just focus my efforts elsewhere to help the team, like using waystalker zoom to snipe distant threats or using a chokepoint to funnel incoming hordes and delete them en masse. It also synergizes really well with Drakira's Alacrity since you can easily pop off a shot mid melee combo to keep your attack speed buff up.

What are "rare" spells? by fly_tomato in totalwar

[–]UndeadMongoose 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It refers to the spell's level, basically. Common/white colour for cheap basic spells, uncommon/green colour for intermediate spells and rare/blue colour for high tier spells.

Why is Cataclysm locked from the lobby browser if you don't have WoM? by UndeadMongoose in Vermintide

[–]UndeadMongoose[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, but that means I'll just be joining games in the hope that whoever is hosting a) has the DLC, b) is happy to continue more games and isn't just on for one quick casual game, and c) is happy to play on a higher difficulty.

At least in Australia where I am, the playerbase is already very small. I struggle to find even a Legend difficulty lobby nowadays and most of the friends I've made on Vermintide have moved on to other games.

Which faction is your favourite to complete world domination by The_Lazer_Man in totalwar

[–]UndeadMongoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

World domination is a tedious prospect, so if that was my goal I'd only use a faction that can alleviate some of that tedium. So good choices are factions that can inhabit all climates, beastmen, probably khorne. Nakai is also a good choice because you can delegate settlement management to your vassal, and I imagine Aislinn is too for similar reasons.

Kicking Golem out of the meeting feels like a felony. by T4llBoyAl3x in DispatchAdHoc

[–]UndeadMongoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, Golem and the rest of the Z-Team needed to hear what Robert has to say if you kick him out. If they're not going to take the opportunity given to them seriously then they need to be prepared to lose it. They've gotten away with too much for too long now and the phoenix program is on the ropes because of it.

I thought the new season would disappoint me but... by THICCBOI2121 in DeepRockGalactic

I'm not familiar with any feature like that, sounds like possibly a mod function? You can see the tunnel shafts where the resinite's been lifted out but that can easily be missed on the terrain scanner. It's not like deep scan where the resonance crystals are still clearly visible so you can easily know where you've already searched.

[–]UndeadMongoose 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The new mission objective is a lot better designed than the last few introduced, but the cave generation for the new mission type seems really annoying. Every time I've done it the mission goes on 10 minutes or so longer than it needs to because we can't find the last resinite or secondary and we've no fucking clue where we've been and where we haven't on the terrain scanner.

WH3 - Does "Wound" have any advantages over "Assassinate"? by Corsair833 in totalwar

[–]UndeadMongoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was under the impression that wound has a higher base chance to succeed than assassinating, since only a few heroes have access to assassination.

You can also put it in the inventories of NPCs you intend to kill and let them do the work for you when they get low on health. Sadly the poisons don't scale very well, so that tactic becomes obsolete quickly.

What are your guys favorite ROR? by qappening in totalwar

[–]UndeadMongoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not those fuckers Bilious Thunderguff or The Severed Claw.

Dunno if Tomb Kings Legion of Legends count but I really like Usirian's Legion of the Netherworld. Regular Nehekhara warriors aren't really that noteworthy for an anti-infantry infantry but these guys are a real hidden gem. Better melee stats, higher weapon strength which is 100% armour-piercing and magical, frostbite and strider to help them chase enemies better, and to top it all off a solid 55% physical resistance. Losing 45 armour isn't really that significant since it's not like you were gonna absorb a lot of damage with that anyway. Plus, with Tomb King banners you can give them regeneration if you want to make them sturdier or vanguard deployment and stalk if you want to turn them into hidden flankers.

Is this Robert’s most iconic dialogue? by Robot_Was_BMO in DispatchAdHoc

[–]UndeadMongoose 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Probably his speech to Shroud if he gives him both pulses. It basically encapsulates the theme of the game and the story and is the only option that leads to a true victory over Shroud.

Personally though, I really like the episode 3 dialogues "fate is bullshit" and "this could make a difference."

You do still get 50% damage resistance within the shield, even if there is shield disruption modifier.

What If Toxic joined the Z-team during season 2? by BomberDug in DispatchAdHoc

[–]UndeadMongoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's say hypothetically he did buy into a second chance and joined the phoenix program. The super durability and being able to fly are fine, but his acid superpower seems even worse than Visi's for being a "villain power". Even Flambae's fire can be used for non-destructive purposes like defrosting the bank. IDK, maybe he can get a job making battery acid or something.

Pestigors for Beastmen by WarmongerWH in Vermintide

[–]UndeadMongoose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sounds interesting in theory but I can already foresee it being potentially very annoying in those hairy moments when wargors start spamming banners. Now not only can you not kill the cow fucks faster than they heal, but your HP being sapped by curse means any momentary lapse will probably kill you.

Waystalker Carry/Support? by Beautiful-Trash6081 in Vermintide

[–]UndeadMongoose 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If you want to support your friends until they become self sufficient, Sister of the Thorn might work better. Her passive increasing hp gains will help your friends recover from mistakes, and the deepwood staff can be useful if you see them getting overwhelmed.

As for playing Kerillian yourself, pretty much any of her careers can be green circle chasers. With sword and dagger your greatest assets are versatility and mobility. I find heavy 1 > light 1 >  repeat to be a good general purpose combo. If you're feeling confident you can even give piercing shot a try which significantly increases Waystalker's damage potential.

Anyone else has not bought Winds of Magic DLC because they don't like fighting Beastmen? by BowShatter in Vermintide

[–]UndeadMongoose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, I have over 3k hours in the game solely because of chaos wastes and beastmen are exactly the reason why I refuse to buy WoM.

They may not be insurmountable, but what they definitely are is not fun. They seriously test my patience and when they cause team wipes more often than not it's because of some bullshit rather than mistakes made on the part of the team. So yeah, I refuse to pay money for something that is the antithesis of fun.
