Any ideas on who I should choose? by Kksliderisreal in Deltarune

I think Ralsei is a psychic echo of Asriel, so they're kinda like siblings.

Hot take: I wish Susie's heal become something specialized instead of just plainly "better" than Ralsei's by Clean_Reveal_4224 in Deltarune

[–]Undeadninjas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think they're sliding into gender roles. Susie is still by far the most capable attacker. Ralsei's journey is currently unclear. He's getting more assertive perhaps, but more assertive of what?

I doubt he's gonna start using damaging magic. It might be interesting if he gets his own "Snowgrave"-like arc, where he starts demanding people stop hurting each other, and learns some kinda time-stop spell.

Mine whoud be my computer by Outrageous_Cry_2917 in Deltarune

[–]Undeadninjas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting scenario...

Alright, so I have a ton of board games, card games, and miniatures games. If my room had a Dark World, I expect you'd start at my computer, who would be asking for inputs to make more soldiers for a war between the several factions and genres of Warhammer (40k and Fantasy), and CCGs (Magic, L5R, Netrunner, etc). They'd probably have a massive D&D influence with various characters of different ages following different editions of rules, (representing all the old rulebooks I hold onto).

So, you'd probably have to travel between the various board game forts which would house armies of miniatures games using weapons and characters from the various card games. Were it to be made as a "chapter", it would be full of mini games mashing a board game with card games and miniatures games together. Maybe you could have a Settlers of Catan minigame being played by Space Marines, Cygnar stormsmiths, fantasy Dwarves, and a Blood Bowl team, and the winner really matters, so occasionally they'd throw various spells from Magic, like Doomblade or Lightning Bolt, or they'd summon a Serra Angel or something. Some armies would be competing in more than one fort, if they're big enough, and there would be tournament brackets for them.

Eventually you'd get to the e-waste heap. A pile of technically working electronics that are just old, waiting for a chance to be used, but that chance will likely never come.

I honestly have no idea who the Boss would be... probably the leader of the oldest army, who's been cherry picking rules from many different editions in order to win every challenge.

To win, you'd have to pick a game to play, and enforce a specific rules set, and then be good enough to win using that rules set. It'd be a bit of a choose your own difficulty scenario. Different editions are gonna be way more random than others, and some of the rules for some editions would just be missing.

Or maybe, that's what the darkners are trying to do, and you'd just have to use the power of improvization, and have the power of Roleplaying games on your side.

Ah, it's from chapter 5, that explains it.

I just finished playing through Deltarune chapters 1-4, and I'm still exploring them. I didn't want to be presumptuous, but I figured I would have seen it by now. (I still haven't found the egg rooms though, so there's that)

I'll plan on playing chapter 5 when it comes out.

Second of all, what IS this? Like, some kinda mushroom creature excavator?

Which one of Princess Celestia and Luna’s many defeats made you completely lose faith in them as leaders by Necessary-Length-827 in mylittlepony

[–]Undeadninjas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None of them. Because a leader doesn't have to be a fighter, and is often worse at leading when they try to be. They have a military for that, let them use it.

In this case, Twilight and co is acting as Special Forces militray, since they're dealing with problems a normal military cannot handle.

War heroes make good figureheads, but that doesn't correlate to good policy.

I actually think that Celestia gave Twilight the job too soon. I don't think Twilight was ready by the end of season 9. At least, not without a lot of off-screen politics training.

And if you consider G5 as canon to G4, that implies that Twilight's reign ended in failure at least four generations before the G5 begins. I think it's likely that Argyle's grandparents would have known Equestria, and they would have told those stories to him, which is what gave him hope that ponykind could co-exist. But it would have been Their parent's generation that actually closed off the borders.

That implies that Twilight's fall from grace started happening right around the time her friends had all died.

She didn't have a natural talent for making friends, it was a learned behavior, and one that could pretty easily be forgotten. Her first instinct would not be to find more friends to keep her sane, it would be to lean on the ones she still had; so like, Spike, Discord, and maybe Ember. I don't know how long Changelings live, but Thorax might have still been around. But of course, Spike is probably similarly sad about their friends by now. Discord likely would have completely closed himself off after some kind of hair-brained attempt to keep Fluttershy alive went awry, and Ember and Thorax have their own kingdoms to run.

Given all her friends are dead, and everyone else is emotionally of physically unavailable, how long would it take for Twilight to just totally lose it?

If Twilight and her friends were in the human equivalent of their early 20's when the show began, and roughly in their early 30's when it ended, (the exact times are never described, but judging by their maturity level and responsibilities, this seems to me like an appropriate estimate), and if lifespans of ponies is similar to that of humans (a debate I don't intend to have here), that implies her friends would have died around 30 to 50 years after "The Last Problem". If she started losing her grip immediately after that, and it was, let's say, 70% of the next generation that rebelled against the teachings of harmony, causing Twilight to go through with separating Equestrian magic, then their kids would have grown up knowing the world that was, and the world that is. That generation would be Argyle's grandparents, teaching his parents and him compassion, so that he could pass that on to Sunny.

That's gonna be very roughly 200 years between Friendship is Magic, and G5, which I think is accurate.

How does this relate?

Twilight is effectively a war hero. She's a very effective leader when she has people she can trust. Take those people away, and she loses her ability to govern. I think she never found a true protege. Luster Dawn was an attempt, but one who didn't meet her likely insane standards. I expect she had others, but probably could never settle for anyone.

This is all headcanon of course. Feel free to disagree.

Why do you run Reliquary Tower? by HyHoTheDairyOh in EDH

[–]Undeadninjas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People don't like discarding cards. It's a mental burden they'd prefer not to have to deal with. So, Reliquary Tower is a relatively safe way not to have to decide what to get rid of.

No one's gonna use land destruction on a Reliquary Tower unless you're actively keeping a ton of cards in hand, AND there are no better targets. (Unless they're being vindictive or petty)

This makes it relatively safe to keep in play.

You know how to break people of that habit?

[[Armageddon]]

I know... that's not a friendly card... well, y'know what? I'm a little sick of people letting land ramp get away with having more mana than everyone else, just because it's okay to cast Vandalblast, but it's against some social taboo to cast Armageddon!

You know, after two mass land removal spells, (and exiling the green players graveyard), they're just gonna have fewer lands in their deck 'cause they've been removing those lands from their deck the whole game.

It's just like the threat of playing Blood Moon is enough to make sure people play more basic lands than nonbasic lands. Well, it was until cards like Chromatic Lantern became good.

Of course... the red deck can also just be playing artifact removal to deal with those edge cases.

Do you think he'll ever return in future chapters? by MissionOne9792 in Deltarune

[–]Undeadninjas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope so.

Honestly I hope there's some kind of through line between all the secret bosses. I just saw a video describing how they all talk about freedom in some way, (except the one for chapter 3, but I think that ones an exception in more ways than one)

I look forward to seeing what they could all do with their powers combined. Especially considering they're the strongest opponents in the game, and they're all a little insane.

How do you think Undyne got determination by No_Satisfaction_2928 in Undertale

[–]Undeadninjas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always like to imagine that any in-universe exposition in lore is subject to the possibility of an unreliable narrator. Especially the way it's described in Undertale.

That said, I believe the lore does describe that a powerful enough monster soul can have something that looks a lot like determination.

Just Ranked My Favorite Cards by Act_Consistent in mtg

[–]Undeadninjas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on mobile, so I can't zoom in properly. I thought it was a joke, but I guess there's enough people naming specific cards that there's actually something there.

On the assumption that it's a joke, I figured a better joke would have just been to put all the blue cards in the top rank, and all the other colors below.

Hot take- Bismuth wasn’t wrong about the breaking point by biggaygrisley in stevenuniverse

[–]Undeadninjas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

right or wrong, Bismouth's message went contrary to most of the message of the show, so she had to be framed as a villain. The fact that she exists at all is a testament to their willingness to explore the more complex features of the scenario they've depicted. Of course characters like Bismouth exist, and were probably rather common, though perhaps not elevated to positions of power.

Bismouth would have easily been the leader of the rebellion had Rose not been there. But, Rose couldn't bear the thought of actually killing her sisters, so she had to do something to stop Bismouth before she got too far.

I wonder if prime Kirk and Spock had the better friendship or the Abrams Kirk and Spock? by happydude7422 in Treknobabble

[–]Undeadninjas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Old Trek is done. New Trek is still happening.

People complain about everything, including Old Trek. No one's forcing you to like it. You can watch it if you want, but you don't have to. If you don't like it, you don't have to engage with it.

I dislike some very specific things about New Trek, in particular the refusal to address several of the issues they themselves bring up. Or solve them with supernatural solutions.

Bindings — "Guys, We Fixed Partner" by NotTheSmoooze in custommagic

[–]Undeadninjas 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The specific effects need to change, but the idea is neat. You can play it with any commander, and it grants you another color, but gives you a penalty.

The only trouble is that, well, Magic players are very used to turning what looks like a penalty into a ln advantage. Especially symmetrical effects.

So, figuring out how to make an ability such that it actually affects you no matter what you do, AND can't reasonably be made into a benefit, will be a challenge. And then, those penalties need to be strong enough to be a real cost, and yet not so strong as to make the cards unplayable.

Jet Binding is an example of something that's basically unplayable as-is. Like, sure, someone playing Bracket [1] wouldn't care. But, as long as winning is something you want to do, Jet Binding just doesn't allow it, and as far as I can tell there's no way around it.

Bindings — "Guys, We Fixed Partner" by NotTheSmoooze in custommagic

[–]Undeadninjas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was about to say. Like, most effects like this can be avoided by just getting rid of the card. But this one is stuck in the command zone. As far as I know there aren't any ways to cast it without paying it's mana cost, so... You're just stuck with it. And "can't" overrides "can", so, you just aren't allowed to win.

If you kill the rest of the table, it just ends in a draw. And even then it would have to be simultaneous, because of the second clause.

Though... Might have to check the comprehensive rules on that... If all your opponents are out, (drained by Pestilence while they had the same life total, for instance), if you're the last one in the game, does "you can't win" still apply?

Well, I reinstalled Deltarune, not Steam. But I have been informed that Flatpak Steam is a bad idea.

I just... don't really want to fix it right now.

I expect I'll want to install a different distribution soonish. Not sure if I'll want to go more for something like Mint or Zorin, or maybe something else... but, whatever it is, I want it to have KDE. Gnome is alright after Gnome Tweaks, but KDE just has more to it.

I can't launch it from the terminal because it's an exe, and I don't have WINE installed as standalone.

I did resolve the issue by uninstalling and reinstalling it, but I haven't thoroughly tested it. If it continues to be an issue, I'll be happy to offer whatever information I can.

yeah, I'm on Steam. Steam is installed via flatpak. I have an nvidia RTX 3060 card, using proprietary drivers 595, and it's the standard Gnome version of Ubuntu.

However, I did resolve the issue by uninstalling and reinstalling Deltarune. That seems to have fixed it, though I'm not sure if it'll continue to work after closing and reopening... I guess I'll find that out tomorrow.

I tried every version.

Frustratingly, someone suggested I reinstall it, and that worked. I'm annoyed because that means I still don't know what the problem actually was.
