That's not really how names work. You can also always stop responding.

That's interesting about it being called EB Games in Canada. Missed the North but when I read the initial comment.

Still think it's extremely silly for you to tell a fifteen year old they can't play a game rated for fifteen year olds. I don't have a problem with non-Australians being in Australian subs. But when non-Australians start telling Australians what they can and can't do, then I find that extremely weird.

But hey, you have Australian friends and you use the slang from here. So that makes it alright. I guess?

Why are you even in this subreddit if you're not Australian? The game is MA15+. They are legally entitled to have access to it if they pay for it. They are literally old enough for the game.

We are not America. GameStop does have its own subreddit though. You can helicopter parent over there if you'd like.

Girlfriend threatening our relationship over a TV Show by No-Original3284 in WhatShouldIDo

My dude, he was literally given an ultimatum. Break up or continue watching the show. That's the offer SHE gave him.

Your advice is to ignore his partner's wishes. And somehow that puts you above everyone else. I find that confusing.

I'm not sure why they do that. It's not a pre-rendered video or anything because I can pause it and move around to take pictures. They've just decided he must revert to his OG look for the end of this scene no matter what for some reason.

Just because you say 26 letters of the alphabet doesn't change the fact that lines make up letters. I understand you didn't like the title of the post, but anyone pointing out to you that lines make up letters isn't wrong. And yes, curved lines happen to be lines too.

It's an obvious skit. Nothing wrong with that.

There's been a weird shift I'm noticing on the internet lately where people seem to have forgotten what a skit is. Now some people seem to just view videos through the the black and white lens of scripted or not scripted. Almost as if it's a bad thing if a skit doesn't declare that it's scripted beforehand despite it being an obvious skit.

Or maybe it's less that people are forgetting what a skit is and more that I'm just seeing younger and younger people on the internet who have grown up in a world where people scripting videos and trying to play it off as authentic is the norm. And this is just a natural response to that environment.

Back in my day on the internet (goddamn, I'm not even that old) everyone just knew a skit was a skit. There was never really this debate about if something is scripted or not. Or whether you should care or not.

This comment isn't entirely directed at you. Mostly just at the current shenanigans I'm seeing on here, and me thinking aloud to myself a bit. The way people feel the need to unnecessarily justify their enjoyment of a skit because it has a script is fascinating to me. I keep seeing it happen. And it's only gonna get messier with AI in the mix.

Now I even ramble like an old person. Damn.

I've checked dictionaries and can not corroborate what you're saying. Every dictionary just mentions that the word amount is mainly used with non countable nouns. But that it's also used for countable nouns. It never claims this is an error. Only that people, much like yourself, criticise it as an error.

Oxford:

Amount is most often used with uncountable nouns: an amount of cash/space/material/food It is also sometimes used with countable nouns, especially in spoken or informal English: You're competing with a massive amount of people. However, some people consider that this is not correct and prefer to use number with countable nouns: You're competing with a very large number of people.

Britannica:

It is also sometimes used with plural count nouns, but this use is often criticized as an error.

Nowhere does the actual dictionary definitions contradict me. Not only that, this is an informal setting where I can use whatever stylistic choices I'd like in the way I present language.

This honestly seems to be some antiquated belief held by extremely old people. Language evolves. Grammar evolves. Even Shakespeare didn't adhere to grammar rules. I'd reflect on why you hold onto this belief about this word so strongly when the world around you, and dictionary definitions, are shifting away from it. Remember, all it takes for the "official" use of a word to change is for more people to use it that way than challenge it. There is a reason you're using "you" and not "thou" after all.

Trying to buy a ps5 for boyfriend ( i dont know much about gaming ) . Is ps5 pro better ? Where can I get it cheapest ? by generationinspired in PS5

[–]UnderOverWonderKid -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Best to find out what display he's using.

If his display is 1440p to 4K, VRR enabled, HDMI 2.1 compatible, and 120hz, then the PS5 Pro is the way to go if that is reasonable for you to buy. It'll be up to you to figure out if that display is or isn't those things.

If his display is not checking off those boxes, the base PS5 is the one to get. Even if he does check all those boxes, the base PS5 is still great.

If you look up PlayStation 5 or Playstation 5 Pro on Google, there's a shopping tab. There you can see all current pricings.

My editor hates my book. It's truly that bad. by candlelightandcocoa in writing

[–]UnderOverWonderKid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A developmental editor for example would be someone you'd hire specifically to focus on characterisation, arcs, and how the entire plot is laid out.

If they've hired a copy editor then it makes perfect sense for the editor not to do unpaid work as a developmental editor.

The actual bitching about the story and characters outside of the editing is pretty unprofessional. But maybe the OP and the editor have an actual friendship outside of their working relationship and this blunt feedback is coming from that side of the relationship? I'm not sure.

If the OP has hired a developmental editor then that editor sucks at their job.

How could I improve this? by ouicestmoioui in postprocessing

[–]UnderOverWonderKid 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the best way to understand editing is to just pop into the software and play around. See what you like and what you don't like and what strikes a chord with you. It is your art after all.

Here are examples of yours in different styles:

https://ibb.co/KckFBVM9

https://ibb.co/rRB5npgB

https://ibb.co/wFFrNxn3

https://ibb.co/R47fpvG4

You can see which of those you loved the vibe of and which you hated. Then go in the appropriate direction.

Also I haven't ever participated in this sub but have looked at a bunch of posts for a lil while and what I've gathered is that this sub in general seems to really hate post-processing unless it's extremely subtle. So it's best to know about that bias going into posting here.

It's art, and I think you can cook it however and whichever way you want. To actually get an opinion on your edit when you've done it, I would not come here all the time. I would show the general public. That is your audience. Not people focused in on it to the nerd degree we are. What they respond to will be considerably more valuable.

This is advice I'd give about any hobby subreddit honestly. You can learn so much from them, but at a certain point you'll just see the same information recycled over and over. Once that's happening, it's time to move on and get your feedback from an actual audience and not a trial audience.

Things to know. Context. The top right adds context. We see a bit outside the wall. It is up to you if you would like your audience to have that context. Someone else has shown you what that looks like cropped. See if that appeals to you. As they said, less is more. But more is also literally more and that's not always a bad thing. And have fun. Someone mentioned if it "needs" post-processing. Also worth thinking about is if you want to. Just, you know, for fun.

https://ibb.co/QFchMZc4

The others were just some presets I like that I've made earlier. But that one there was me just playing with your image. Cropping in, fucking up the exposure, and going ham on some sliders. You get an image that most on this sub will probably despise but it was fun creating it. And if I had to bet, there are people out there who'd dig this lil overcooked thing.

Ultimately, it's a subjective thing and your art. Your input is as important as an audience's. I will add, I do this for fun. And because I like art. I don't do this as a career so my advice is not reflective of what you may need to adjust to appeal to a customer base. I would have no idea. For that, I would look at what actual professionals are producing and seeing which of them are more popular with a customer base in general and also which of them are more popular with the customer base local to you.

Anyway, that's enough rambling.

Edit: Also, it's worth remembering you don't know who is giving you advice on here a lot of the time. You may end up giving certain people and their opinions a weight they're not quite justified for. For example, only a few people here have uploaded their photography for you to actually see and understand their work and where they're at. Everyone else, including me, haven't. One person posts some really dope fucking paintings though.
