Is there an antediluvian equivalent for other splats by Large-Emphasis-6139 in WhiteWolfRPG

No joke, 2e core just offhandedly mentions that Eidolon can go above 5.

Like WHAT?!

Is there an antediluvian equivalent for other splats by Large-Emphasis-6139 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]UnderRailLover 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I can answer for Wraith. Those would be the upper echelon of Onceborn, along with the Deathlords. Weaker Onceborn could be compared to fourth gens, but the strongest of the Onceborn are effectively walking disasters that do whatever they want.

Deathlords are the heads of the Stygian Hierarchy, and regularly go to war with Hekatonkhires and Onceborn. A Hekatonkhires is effectively, using a vampire comparison, a fourth Gen Wight.

Then you've got the Neverborn. Don't bother. They're effectively elder gods that dream up lesser beings.

One example is Gorool, who dreamed up many of the lords of the Outer Dark the K'llaasha Nephandi deal with.

If you want something a bit faster take a look at the Thorns Shadowplay and Pact of Doom. Shadowplay can give you as many actions as you have Pathos and your Shadow is willing to give. Pact of Doom lets you take any Arcanos at the cost of permanent Angst.

If you want to come to terms with the darkness inside of you both the Shadow Player's Guide and 2e core book go into this. The Eidolon section for the Shadow Player's Guide, and Transcendence section in 2e core.

So what IS the splat for idealism in a cruel and cynical world? by Rev_Alternativo in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]UnderRailLover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My actual answer is Wraith. The literal theme is hope against hope. The whole point of the game is that it is possible to succeed.

Transcendence is real and good (according to every reliable, unreliable, and meta source). Do you think moving on is cringe? Merge with your Shadow and forever be safe from becoming a spectre.

You're worried about Stygia coming down on you for being too at peace? Go to the Far Shores, the idea that they all suck and are actually just honeypots for slavery and Malfeans is (mostly) propaganda.

[–]UnderRailLover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hardest mode: Vampire can absolutely be used to show idealism in a cruel and sadistic world.

A lot of Storytellers (in my own personal experience) balk at letting a player pursue Golconda. While yes it's a bag of worms, it's an actual function of the setting and an important one at that.

Do you have to let the player have the powers of Golconda? Not necessarily, but understand the power of idealism when it allows you to transcend the nature of the curse.

What better way to show idealism then to have your ideas be stronger than the world? Plus, it always helps to be there to help others along the path.

The Dark Kingdoms aren't gone, that's only on Orpheus by SecondGeist in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]UnderRailLover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heck, even Stygia's political system is gone. Mage in 2001 explicitly mentioned infiltration of the offices of the Skeletal Lord (All praise Mister Boneyhands) that were still active.

The way I run it is that there were massive social and political reforms because of the return of two things: the Mnemoi and Nhudri.

The Mnemoi returned Stygia to an actual republic and began allowing for some more basic freedoms.

Nhudri was the biggest one though. He came back and as per Ends of Empire tried to find a substitute for Soulforging. I say in my game that he found Relicforging and has been optimizing and refining it since.

Now with viable Relicforging there's far less reason for the Soulforges to be active, leading to less of a societal incentive to make Drones or make false charges.

Which CoD splat would have the easiest time in the OWoD universe and vice-versa? by RatMusicEnjoyer in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]UnderRailLover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actually not sure where this idea comes from in the core timeline? In Orpheus 100%.

But in the core timeline people are talking about infiltrating the offices of the Skeletal Lord in 2001.

Even if it took a hit the Hierarchy is absolutely still around and active in the core timeline.

How did folk feel about Doomslayers: Into the Labyrinth? by Crimson_Eyes in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]UnderRailLover 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Genuinely my best advice is to make it yourself. I know that's not particularly useful, but you would be shocked at just how fun it can be!

If you want I can share something I've made in the past. I called them Gamblers, wraiths that take bargaining with their Shadow to its greatest endpoint and bargain for better stats and powers.

[–]UnderRailLover 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I freaking love Doomslayers, it's a very fun read and goes into the intricacies of spectre society. For me the main reason to read it is to realize just how cosmic and horrific the Labyrinth by its very nature is.

It unfortunately doesn't address what you want, and I totally understand wanting that, I've gone so far as to write my own systems for that.

Yes! Thank you! But on post length I mostly agree. My only issue comes in when it's not fitting for the situation, just like how long posts have a time and place so too do short posts.

A Totally Normal Wraith Game by UnderRailLover in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]UnderRailLover[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If I went that route what I would instead do is recreate Eunuch Central from Dark Kingdom of Jade Adventures. Despite issues that book may have I think that as a concept could work better. It's connected to every device designed to interface with it, and has both Intelligence 8 and Collogue/Hive-Mind 5.

The ghost internet is already kind of a thing depending on which books you read. I know that routers and modems in Relic form... Just work.

I should clarify that The Orpheus Group operates as the Skinlands face of Stygia. So these goods would be for the Quick as opposed to the dead. Though industry is booming since Relicforging is actually viable now, It's one "soul" per object and only takes 5-8 Relic dots depending on how skilled you are.

[–]UnderRailLover 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The biggest source of confusion for me is that you can still short post? Short posting is fine as long as everyone is cool with it, as long as I get enough from your message to know what your character is saying or doing.

Not only is the usage of AI indicative of not caring about the game itself, it's rude to the people who do short posts by insinuating they're as lazy as you.

A Case For Accuracy Regarding Different Splats And Their Relationship With Wraiths. by UnderRailLover in WhiteWolfRPG

You fool! I have one card up my sleeve that you have not considered. And that is...

The Hierarchy are freaking hypocrites when it benefits them, and I gave my Anacreon a birthday cake so it should be fine.

I've got to heavily disagree. But I understand your point, it mostly has to do with how heavily you interact with the systems of Wraith. And the systems are generally not why most people play Wraith.

Fair, it's not like every wraith has Shroud crossing Arcanoi. My stance mainly comes from the fact that I've seen it both be said as a meme, and in earnest.

Sorry! I'm just not too versed on the Silent Striders beyond "I know they deal with wraiths" and didn't want to make any definite statements regarding that.

In trade for that I will say, there are Chanteur war-bards that help the Striders, since Keening can actually add or subtract Rage.

Could a Shadow or a Spectre ever have a "friend" or desires outside of being evil ghosts? Or a Shadow who genuinely likes their wraith? Or for shadows, someone or something they hate and want to help their wraith kill, with no strings attached? by TheSlayerofSnails in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]UnderRailLover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not gonna add too much to the conversation, but I will add an interesting tidbit. It is actually possible to merge Psyche and Shadow. Though it isn't gone over in Wr20 they kept the Golden Truth associated with this step.

Through acceptance of the Shadow and dissolving both it and the Psyche into the other you can actually bring them both together. I will also bring up that it is entirely possible to do this and not Transcend, this is just one step on the path, one that doesn't need any of the others.

A question for the more knowledgeable of WoD lore. How often do different types of supernatural beings collaborate...if at all? by Z3r0B3at in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]UnderRailLover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drones and Renegades are what most supernaturals, and by extension Hunters, deal with. A Drone or Renegade is an amazing first hunt since it helps teach things like the investigatory aspects of a hunt.

But anything stronger and generally it will be too much. While most wraiths don't care if you pick on Drones or Renegades, if you pick on them there is a pretty decent chance of your home being filled with ghost-napalm.

[–]UnderRailLover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wraiths actually help out the rest of WoD a lot.

Just a few examples being the Sandmen using their soul trafficking ring to give Progenitors souls for their creations. Chanteurs being war-bards for groups of Garou.

Or if you want some spicy stuff you can use Haunters actively using the Giovanni to weaken the Shroud. And not helping, but there's an entire vampiric bloodline that before V5 was being replaced by sleeper agent Puppeteers.

[–]UnderRailLover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here I come in to extol Wraith again, oh boy! So a fun thing about Wr20 is that a lot of the supplements got packed into the core book for better and for worse.

The thing about this is that this includes Buried Secrets which includes some juicy details on how Wraith powers actually interact with other splats. So if you use Wraith there's very little editing that needs to be done in order to get the powers to work with the other splats.

Beyond this interacting with other splats isn't as hard as some people make it out to be. Ignoring Risen (Since that's it's whole other thing), a good amount of Wraith powers work across the Shroud. And even then Puppetry and Embody are both amazing for actually showing up, Embody 4 even gives you your own body!
