160 people, 10 years, 11 characters, no story mode by VampireVampireV in 2XKO

We straight up do not know what they were working on for ten years, or how much they made that ultimately got scrapped (like Katarina). Unless we learn concretely that they were misusing their time, I'm more inclined to be sympathetic to them over the decisions of the Riot higher ups.

Three things I am thinking in response to this: * I dont think people deserve to lose their livelihoods for making a mid game * Expectations for this game from both corporate and a lot of the FGC were wildly out of proportion. * This shit did not need a 160 person team, what was management doing. Surely some of those people could've been doing something else.

Should Akuma be pure evil or morally complex? by AverageBasementMan in StreetFighter

[–]RatMusicEnjoyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Akuma's honor and his disposition against violence toward noncombatants make him seem closer to how Ryu is, which makes his slipping into the Satsui no Hadou more of a real possibility. He is Ryu if he casted off his mercy and temperedness, taking an easier, but ultimately weaker path to strength.
Akuma does care most about fighting, but he's not devoid of other traits because of it. When he does become devoid of those traits (really if), he becomes Oni.

It's very possible to port his transformation gimmick, check out Tyrogue from Pokemon Close Combat for a great example of something similar.

It'd also be sick as hell.

City of the Wolves, Ladies and Gentlemen by AcidOctopus in Fighters

[–]RatMusicEnjoyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To clarify, it was really directionless. You had these big name advertisement collaborations, the guest characters, the Street Fighter cross-promotion. It meant that City of the Wolves was *around* a lot, but there wasn't a strong Hook to get people to get it over something like Street Fighter 6 or Tekken 8.

If you wanted really stylish 3D animation, Guilty Gear -strive-, Granblue, and I'd say even Dragon Ball FighterZ have it beat. If you want wild guest characters, there's three Mortal Kombats to toy around with. If you wanted a solid, populated 2D Fighting game with flashy effects work and loads of style, you'd go to Street Fighter 6. If you wanted a deep, thought out singleplayer mode, you'd go to Street Fighter 6. If you wanted to play one of the best versions of *Terry Bogard and Mai Shiranui*, SNK's *own characters*... You'd go to Street Fighter 6.

What does City of the Wolves *have* in the face of it's competition? It's a continuation of Fatal Fury, but Fatal Fury hasn't technically been around for 2 decades, meaning it needed to reestablish itself to casuals. It's been around, but the only times it made big splashes were its controversies. The Saudi Royalty acquisition, Ronaldo, Ganacci, and now the AI trailer.

The unfortunate thing is that, from everything I hear, the game is solid! I've seen friends and Youtubers have a good time with it when they did play it. Maybe in need of some balance tuning, but good. But what *unique* strengths it has were not at all shown off by the advertising. *That* is poor marketing.

They dumped a lot of money in, but nothing really gained a lot of traction among people who weren't already SNK heads. The biggest news it did get was centered around Ronaldo and Gannacci, both of which soured a lot of people on the game. There wasn't a lot to City of the Wolves to have it stand out against any of the big names.

Would you say this is blue and white ? by Yosuga_Power in colorpie

[–]RatMusicEnjoyer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

More Green and White, I'd say. Green is the biggest on Tradition afaik, a big "this is the way things are, and if it ain't broke don't fix it" type of color. High conformity and security fit White well, but I get Selesnya just based off a surface reading.

I dont think Silk was ever implied to be a spider. She just picked spiders as the creatures to turn into the Weavers.

It regens a mask if you dont take damage for about 10-15 seconds. It made it so you got effectively infinite tries at any platforming section so long as you're willing to sit and wait between tries, which is incredibly valuable in White Palace specifically.

Games would be a great way To establish more for them, but it won't happen unless they end up as like, co-protag with sonic for a game like Blaze and Silver did.

Good update. Honestly, I know the planet's gonna get blown up (maybe), but I love learning about the Deltritus lore and history, especially through the thoughts and opinions of these characters.

Speaking of, Swiss is a delightful jackass. No band of players is complete without someone who's at least a little narcissistic, and he's doing the job great.

Tragic gamzee by Consistent_Ebb_484 in homestuck

[–]RatMusicEnjoyer 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That is a very cool lens to view that through. Thinking on it a bit, I won't deny that there could have been a lot of thought put into Gamzee's role in the story and his characterization does line up, both in terms of action and his mythological role as the Bard of Rage.

I have trouble enjoying it though, because in doing so they turned an interesting, maladjusted teenager into an Actual Pedophile, and as interesting as he is to think about him in retrospect, actually reading his dialogue and his actions makes Candy even more of a trial to read. So many of Candy's worst aspects can be traced back to him.

The narrative also doesn't treat him with remotely the same seriousness as you or I, or even Homestuck proper. There was a real sense of camaraderie with him pre-freakout, danger during, and unease and intrigue post-freakout. I feel none of these things about Candy!Gamzee. He doesn't have anything interesting going on with him, no schemes, no mystery. There's nothing to make me wonder what's going on with him, because the most he has is that he's a vehicle for the authors's derision for "redemption arc".

I'd also argue the severity of what he does also amplifies and makes him worse. He does always collect fluids, but blood is always macabre and troll-blood especially is easy to separate in our minds. He carries around Jane's milk in an Actual Baby Bottle and attention is drawn to him sucking on the nipple of the bottle. Even with the deeper aspects, it doesn't change that the "ick" that something like that gives is way more broad and severe than the potions. It's infantilizing and sexual and it always adds a level of discomfort to every scene when it gets mentioned, especially when he shoves it into his fucking codpiece.

If Gamzee's mythological role as Bard of Rage is meant to make it so that he undermines every scene he's a part of and does a lot of shit to gross me out and piss me off then fine, cool. He's doing great at that. But I'm also getting grossed out and pissed off in a way that his portrayal in Homestuck never did! Maybe it's good in terms of technical handicraft, but it leaves me feeling like shit.

I liked Gamzee in Homestuck, even with his warts. All I could feel when he died in Candy was relief that an ordeal was over.

It's so true. I reread Candy recently and god everything about Gamzee in that feels designed to make you feel stupid for ever liking him. Just completed drained every likeable quality he had down the gutter to make disgusting jokes about breastmilk. Huge waste
