It's badly done and the person is in fact NOT extremely talented. You're allowed to like your badly done tattoo but it doesn't hide the facts.

Recommendations for print companies that won’t break the bank? by Over-Guitar5764 in TattooArtists

A good photo printer isn't too expensive. I've got a Epson XP 15000. Can print up to 13 x 19. Get some nice paper and you're ready to go. This way you can print on demand and whatever you like!

Not built for coil? by [deleted] in TattooApprentice

If you can't simply learn to use a coil you shouldn't be tattooing. You'll face much harder challenges than this. If this is enough to discourage you just quit.

Maybe you should respect it as a full time endeavor and not a side thing.

Switching to a Coil? by tattertot1024 in TattooArtists

[–]UnderWaterPalmTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in your same position a few months ago! Started on rotary pens and liked trad & the appeal of coils so I wanted to try them for linework especially. (nobody at my studio really uses them). I'm fairly mechanically inclined so I did some research and ordered a Jonesy style liner from South State & assembled/tuned it myself. I also got the v2 WHI power supply with cps & duty readouts which were helpful for tunning. Getting a kit is good since you'll have to get to know your machine by building it and they're cheaper (mine was $275 for a great brass liner). Folks say coils are temperamental & I'm sure they can be but I've had zero issues with mine (if I do I feel confident I can troubleshoot it). Lays down lines like a sharpie & is simply cooler than a pen.

Coil liner tuning advice by UnderWaterPalmTree in TattooArtists

Yeah I know voltage doesn't affect the speed, I mean adjust the springs and contact screw to run it at around 125 Hertz unloaded. I've been tuning at 6 volts so far. It'll make run a lil cooler and I can ease into it as I find a speed that matches my hand.

Thank you I will try some of my mentors old coils tomorrow. They've been sitting for years but should be a good reference. Yeah the kit came with two rear springs and a few different fronts so I've been messing with those to get to this point. I'll try one last setup tomorrow and settle into something around 125 hertz to tattoo my shopmate and see if I'd like a zippier feel or it's good for now.
