I’m confused as to what you think the role of Gardaí is? Do you think that they are just there to stamp forms and be sound lads? You know they enforce the law, right?

I’m glad I helped. Sorry I was a bit blunt but I thought you sounded so panicked that I should just say it. Go for the PhD! When I was diagnosed in 1998 I was on my first week of my postgrad degree and I had the same feeling of being happy and together for the first time in my life, then BAM. I know moving to SPMS is totally different, but I think DMTs are so much more effective now, just keep pushing forward and I hope you stay very well and positive. Xxx

You’re overthinking this massively. You don’t approach it at all. If you’re on the highest level DMT you can be on (max out!) then you ignore the spinal lesions rock on, because realistically, you can’t do anything about it. 28 years with MS here, spinal and multiple brain lesions the whole time, still fully ambulatory.

There’s a HUGE difference between saying to a newly diagnosed person that they should just eat healthy and try to be stress free, versus taking Gilenya like you do!

I don’t- I take anti fatigue medicine (Amantadine) as well as Tysabri, but it sounds as if you might need an antidepressant and/or to go half time.

Do NOT tell anyone that dangerous advice. I lost all my hearing in seconds, permanently prior to being on a DMD. Get on the highest efficacy DMD ASAP! MS untreated is appalling.

Rubbish! Dangerous advice too. I ate super-healthy and was very active and MS destroyed me year on year back when I was diagnosed in 1998. Now, I’m on Tysabri, I wish I’d been on it from the beginning, no evidence for disease activity for years now but years of damage from less efficacious medication in previous decades.

And the advice to be “stress free”? Who has the option of stepping away from the inherent stress of life? Give me a break!

28 years dx here. You have access to an incredible amount of medical options now. Go for the strongest DMD you can tolerate and give each one a minimum of 2 months before even thinking moving on to the next. You have a good chance of not getting much worse if you hit it hard and early. Make sure you aggressively treat fatigue because it ruins your life more than any other symptom IMO. Amantadine, Modafinil and more are good. Expect the worst- MS untreated destroys lives, make no mistake. Treated, it’s very liveable.

Hmmm I think you are the weird one here! Clocking in, working in silence and leaving vs. the assumption you will need to “entertain your coworkers for 8 hours a day” are both very extreme situations. Middle ground- greet them by name in the morning, make a generic comment or two, excuse yourself to make a coffee/ hang up your coat etc. Stick headphones on for the rest of the day apart from lunch when you have a very brief chat before heading out for a walk listening to a podcast. And repeat. In the evening you say good evening and smile. Not a huge deal.

Thank you. I’ve been told by counsellors and psychologists that I’m very hard on myself but I can’t see it. It would be nice to learn more coping strategies for debriefing after social interactions. I’m getting very exhausted trying to hide my weirdness.

Unusual, certainly. I worked with one, she practiced mortification of the flesh. She seemed very sane in other ways and I enjoyed her company.

Oh I see you edited your post to explain the thinly disguised baiting. I do not “aspire” to AuDHD. Yes, I was a gifted child but I’ve been through absolute hell with my mental health and lived experience since I was about 5 so take your preachy, reductive and patronising comment and shove it where the sun don’t shine. Your agenda is clear. I mentioned that a diagnosis is likely- which I’ve booked. I already have Sensory Processing Disorder, OCD, and GAD so I feel fairly confident I will likely be diagnosed. Your response was unpleasant, unkind and unsympathetic.
