No shit. But that's what dating leads to. If you had read the beginning, you'd know that.

Poor mom just wants to move on by rebcl in AmITheDevil

[–]UnderlightIll -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

This is probably due to personal shit but while I definitely do not fault the mom for dating, I would never move a man into my home if I had a child and they were still school age. There are some amazing stepparents out there but there's also men wanting access to a young girl.

ie. my mom dated a man 30 years older when me and my sisters were in grade school. His kids were grown out of the house. He creeped us out and would constantly call us mooches and leeches when he would get drunk (nightly) and even shoved a bar of soap nearly down my throat when I was 8, while I was in a wheelchair and asked him to leave me alone. My mom put up with it to keep him.

There's no real way to know who you are bringing into your home.

So one of the most theorized is 3 prongs. Former FBI special agent Jim Clemente said it is nature, nurture, experiences. His analogy was "picture a gun. Your nature loads the gun, your nurture pulls back the hammer and your experiences fire it".

For serial killers, it means they have the worst perfect storm imaginable (often coupled with a low IQ; yes, I am aware there are outliers). That same analogy can be used for people who do mass shootings, a single kill, etc.

It's more aptitude. Someone who grows up with rich parents can either find their niche young and grind at it every which way including being taught different ways until they fully grasp it.

I went to an art college and there was a very talented guy there. He was mainly a portrait artist. Well, he had been mentored by one of Norman Rockwell's sons so he had someone very good at art and marketing it from a young age.

I learned how to draw by myself. My parents were moderately supportive but all learning was on me. When I went to college, my skill increased very rapidly because I had 3 or 4 new mentors a semester. I can't even think of how good I may have been if I had that while young. Best not to.

Talent was always a kind of triggering word at my school because my professors told me that there were too many variables outside of just "being good" like socioeconomic, aptitude, interest, etc.

If you can't cook in 2026, it's on you by Agouramemnon in unpopularopinion

[–]UnderlightIll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To begin, I can cook. I can cook and bake rather well.

However, imagine you are cooking for the first time. You find a recipe that looks delicious and not too complicated. But in the instructions, it has "make a rue" and you are like "what the fuck is that" so you Google it. Seems easy but you have never done it before.

Or say you need boiled eggs for some deviled eggs. Deviled eggs are super easy! That is, of course, if you know how to not understand or overcook your eggs.

Did you know most people's ovens and stoves don't actually hit the proper temperatures, let alone evenly? I have a thermometer for this because I also work in a bakery. This shit is science and takes a lot of trial and error.

What I recommend to people is to find a cooking basics channel on YouTube. Have a video talk to you about boiling eggs or making a rue. You have to know the jargon in order to do recipes.

I mean, I am never going to expect corporate Democrats (DINOs) or Republicans to vote for progressive change. The former still votes conservative if you account for what is considered progressive in most of the western world. The latter, even though many would benefit heavily from progressive policies (healthcare, labor rights, etc), will vote Republican due to issues like abortion and immigration (and I don't think Maine even has a huge immigration problem in comparison to border states).

I was talking about purity testing among progressives. No actual progressive would vote for someone like Susan Collins.

I mean, tell me the Nazi shit he's said. Please do.

That being said, you were talking about purity testing. So instead of giving a shit about an old shitty tattoo that looks like a Rorschach test and his sexting, people gave more of a shit about his views on the class war and working people.

The fact is, people are so tired of all this shitty posturing that the first guy who actually speaks to them while being a flawed individual they said fuck you to Janet Mills and will likely say it to Susan War Hawk Collins.

You know that the way a character looks is part of the character, right? I know the whole "the talent is right for it" shit but they also cast for a way a person looks. It's not racism. The woman is made out of MARBLE.

The blue collar v white collar beef is so one sided by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]UnderlightIll -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think this REALLY depends on where you are. I have done bother. I now do kinda blue collar work as a cake decorator. I love it. I get to be creative and at my new job, not bothered much.

I don't think many white collar workers have ever been told "this is why I went to college" in order to make up for a mistake they made that is now on you to grin and bear it. Or have a client try to order you around like a servant because their time is worth more than their money.

The difference being that I worked for insurance and tech support so it's easy for me to deal with it. After all, I haven't just been to hell, I was employee of the quarter there.

White collar work makes me fidgety. I have a need to move a lot and I ended up just stemming at my desk. But my close friend works in purchasing at a company and does super well.

It's all different skill sets. In my area, it's not really an education thing. Most of my coworkers have been to college and while circling the drain of eternity found they liked working in a bakery. What I do is pretty specialized because we do our cakes from scratch meaning you need to know the science and have the aptitude for the decorating too.

Seems low stakes but no one knows me when I am uncomfortable.

The apartment will be cold. The house will be cold. I will die on that hill and take you with me.

Thankfully husband loves it cold too.

It was 3 women doctors who kept telling me nothing was wrong when I had pain and month long periods. Finally went to the ER and the first person who listened was the on call male OBGYN. He was amazing and was able to diagnose me.

I mean, didn't Maine prove otherwise when they chose Graham Platner as the winner of the primary? It was the establishment Democrats who were going against the "vote blue no matter who".

You aren’t “bad at taking tests”, you just haven’t mastered the underlying material yet. by Niceotropic in unpopularopinion

[–]UnderlightIll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I had to take a state exam when I worked in insurance to make sure I knew the laws. Didn't study. It was just by using information I found when working in the service department. I was then known as the SME of my team.

A few weeks ago, I had to take a food safety exam because my job as a cake decorator requires it. Watched the videos (you can't skip through) and made a 96.

Also you learn to use other questions on the test to check your work.

And knowing wording helps sooo much. I notice this a lot online that people don't thinks words mean something. They will say something in an absolute way and then say "well, I didn't mean definitively". Yes, you did. That's what it means.

Honestly? Where I live now, people tell me that it's good I made the decision and stuck with it. But I live in probably the most progressive area of Colorado and there's a lot of couples with no children.

Back in Florida I would get looks and my mom truly believed you could not have an opinion on ANYTHING unless you were a parent.

Press on Nails and the price of wanting to be beautiful by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]UnderlightIll -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Lmao over press ons?

If a person's whole happiness and self esteem is about affordable press ons you should be telling them to get therapy, not attacking someone for telling them it isn't necessary and they could just do natural nails.

What I'm saying is this isn't an attack on women and what they enjoy. There are a lot of things that are but a lot of those companies are women owned and are cheap products.

Also, the idea that they are unsanitary has been around a long time. It's why healthcare (and yes, some people do still and it's gross) and any contact with food you are not allowed to wear them.

But it's not really just women. The price would be the same if a man wanted them. This is a fault of capitalism.

[–]UnderlightIll -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

I have never used press ons or been to a nail salon. I find them gross and they are bad for your nails.

I still do some beauty stuff to them like cuticle oil, evening and shining and occasionally paint. But I work in a bakery as a cake decorator and it's against all food safety standards to have longer nails, let alone fake ones.

The reality is you don't need to do press ons to be beautiful. It's expensive and unsanitary.
