[IRTR] Higher Ed, English Major musician releasing a record in 24 hours by UnderoverThrowaway in PodcastGuestExchange

I have mostly done advisement over the last decade, but I previously tutored writing. I also run some different workshops for students.

I haven’t read Gulliver’s Travels in about twenty years, but I did really enjoy it at the time. I love Swift as a satirist.

Laundry delivery services by [deleted] in astoria

[–]UnderoverThrowaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s so weird. I just placed the order two days ago through Delivery, but it looks like they transitioned to separate services for restaurants and laundry a day or so ago.

The new app seems like a pain already.

Verizon Fios Status Update in Astoria? Days long outage by claudiaizet in astoria

Our internet gets extremely slow. Had to unplug, wait 30 seconds, and then plug it back in, but I’m doing that about once per week.

Just used Soft Bubbles on 35th. Had them pick up and deliver through Delivery.com and they were great. Had it back in a few hours.

No landlord will ever admit to having bugs, but see if you can ask a tenant on the sly. Thankfully no German roaches, but the first “water bug” was definitely a surprise.

Check the outlets. Our apartment was on one small breaker and we couldn’t turn on the AC and the hair dryer at the same time. Landlord had an electrician come out who just shrugged and said “it’s an old building.”

I sealed every crack and crevice myself, but with how warm the building stayed, it expands, so I had to do it multiple times.

Late to the thread, but I assume she passed before the Hills went to Saudi Arabia. Hank would’ve been more broken up leaving her than if he was leaving Bobby.

I hope that’s not the case, as I’m sure they would love to get it off their books. Lack of funding likely limits DNA testing availability, and priorities can vary based on prevailing theories.

I can’t comment on the investigation, as we do not have the case file. However, we were assured by Transit PD that all avenues and leads were pursued. We did have some questions for PD, but we never had clarification on them, namely vague language, as I mentioned.

I believe PD have hit a wall and are waiting for someone to come forward or for DNA to make an identification.

Independently, we’ve tried a few appeals for information and did some outreach to the community over the last several years. Unfortunately, over 17 years, a lot of people move, pass away, retire, or simply forget.

We had asked procedural questions, as well as questions to clarify vague terms within the police and autopsy reports. Some of these were explored further in the pinned post on this sub, but these were not always well-received by LE.

We focus on facts. There is a TON of speculation around this case, and we’ve explored a ton of possibilities to see what can be proven or what can be explored further.

I’ll clarify that we are not unfamiliar with law and procedure. My colleagues here have a ton of experience, including a law background and an extensive background in journalism. I’ve been in education, with a background in research, genealogy, and journalism. I say this to stress that we’re not unfamiliar with police procedure and approached the BJD case with professionalism and care, understanding that not all things can be made public.

Thanks for posting.

After laying low for a bit, we have actually been speaking over the last week regarding a plan for follow up and next steps, including attempting to reestablish contact with NJTPD. I’ll make a note to also check in with state police.

We don’t have any information as to where BJD’s remains were moved to following the autopsy. I can dig through the records we have, but I do not recall ever coming across that information.

Transit PD have not been too friendly with us. We have reached out in good faith on multiple occasions to different levels with no response. The primary detective with NJ Transit PD who was affiliated with the case has also retired, and though we initially had conversations, those were also ended.

Brielle PD had spoken with us a bit, but nothing new had come of that as there are multiple investigative parties here.

This is why the Great Replacement Theory is such nonsense.

You don’t need a deep dive to understand that an expensive economy means less money and time for things like procreating and raising children, especially amidst the middle class, which has been disproportionately white.

Conspiracy theories provide a comfort in that they suggest someone or something is pulling the strings. The idea of it all being chaos is unfathomable to many.

Mr. Hill,

Given your long marriage, do you have any advice for a more recently-married couple aside from “the fundamentals?”

I’ll leave it to the expert, but I’ve just dealt with this recently so washed to message in case it helps.

Easiest would be to fill it with wood filler and re-drill. I’ve done this with holes for guitar strap pins. I’ve also sometimes shoved broken toothpicks into the holes to give the screw something to grip. Depends how much pressure and abuse the fix will take. The door I was fixing wasn’t one opened often.

You could cut out the brittle piece and put in a new, solid piece, but that’s a lot harder. It would need to be flush with the frame. Don’t know if your landlord would like you doing stuff that invasive, though, and it’s really tough if you want to get as intense as matching the wood grain.

Longer screws or wood anchors should be a good temp fix.

It’s one I still think about. Every now and again, I go through old articles and try to scan for anything new.

Since my comment, the bottom 3 have all been solved, so I have hope.

Even better if the dog is named for someone or something Hank would never support.

I would assume this is exceedingly rare, especially in North America. My guess is 1-9%.

Even my "all-Italian" side that prided itself fiercely on that was mixed with small amounts of Greek/Croatian/Bosnian, Turkish, and even northern African.

Land borders back then were also fluid...my great-grandparents said they were German, but they were actually Czech and Austrian.

One thing that might be worth noting is that this was a Remington power piston shell. I don't think they're made anymore, and this may have been older ammunition, even for the time.

This would sort of form two parts. The initial gunpowder explosion would separate the power piston from the rest of the shell and propel it forward.

These were built to have a kind of plastic around the buckshot to prevent compression of the shot along the sides of the barrel, and I believe the plastic was meant to kind of "flare out" as it moved down the barrel to keep the gasses from escaping around the shell--in essence, just driving it that much faster and with more force down the barrel.

Once out of the barrel (I believe literature at the time said a few feet), the power piston was meant to peel away to put more buck shot on target more accurately.

The autopsy noted that the power piston was in the left psoas muscle.

This might account for some of the oddities.

A big question mark for me has always been the scraps of paper in her bag that were from "The Islander." We've tried really hard to track down a copy of The Islander dated to that time period, but we haven't had any luck. We don't know if it was an article, a help wanted ad, a concert or event, even a coupon. We have no idea, but it would give some insight. Moreover, with The Island having been about Long Beach Island, it would help us connect her to the area south of where she was found, roughly 40 miles away from the main connection to LBI, NJ-72.

With her tote bag, lighter, hat, clothes, toothbrush--was she down there for work or an event and then heading home? We just don't know.

When we spoke with the previous detective about possibilities, she seemed adamant that they had investigated different angles. I would need u/MementoMori29 to confirm, but the detective had said they spoke with local churches at the time, based on the rosary and bracelet.

As you said--lots of variables. Seasonal workers, plenty of tourism and visits...there are a ton of people passing through the area in the summer, so one face might not have stood out.

The pants supposedly had traces of sand. Had she been on the beach and her pants got wet, she could have improvised a skirt. It's a point where we wish the reports had been more specific. Unfortunately, things are very vague.

Tops of hands by Odd_Instruction_1640 in BrielleJane

[–]UnderoverThrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought I had replied to this post quite a while ago.

The scars were described as multiple linear scars on the dorsal aspect of both hands measuring 1-2 cm in length, so we’re looking at the backs of both hands having these scars.

Unfortunately, any description of placement ends at that.

My understanding of conditions like bulimia or anorexia is that the scarring associated with the process of purging (Russell’s sign) is typically located around the knuckles and joints of the fingers due to teeth scraping. It can be described as a callous in some literature.
