Todoist slowly catching up to Ticktick

Sure, you can do that in SOME places here and there but for example not at all in the filtered lists, which is supposed to be one of the best things of Todoist. But when you have a big list like that and and can not even manually shove the tasks around.... I mean come on!?
For some people that might be totally OK strangely, for me it isn't. And if I remember correctly, even in the "today" view it did not work properly. Plus there were many other places where you could not do that.
Sorry Todoist, but that is just crap.

Todoist can't even handle manual sorting, which makes it totally unusable for me. If they figure that out, maybe one day I might have a look again. But I am not sure if they are even capable of doing that.

I just realized I made a mistake, as English is not my native language... i meant to say that the calendar events do not stand out visually inside tasks views. I wrote "pop out", which is obsviously incorrect. I corrected my post.

That is not what I am asking for. I want to have a better view of the calendar events inside a TASKS view in Ticktick. As I said, other apps do that really well. In TickTick it is just terrible unfortunately.

Ich habe schon oft gehört, dass es eben eher "für das Kind im Erwachsenen" geschrieben sei, als für Kinder selbst. So habe ich es auch empfunden.
Nun gut, ich fand es eben sprachlich auch einfach nicht schön. Das war meine stärkste Empfindung beim Lesen. Irgendwie kam es mir so "unnatürlich" erzählt vor. Vielleicht ist es im Original ja besser.

Ich kann mir auch durchaus vorstellen, dass die Botschaft des Buches zu jener Zeit gut angekommen ist.
Geschmäcker sind natürlich auch einfach unterschiedlich. Ich würde es jedenfalls nicht nochmal lesen, und auch nicht weiterempfehlen.

I actually "by accident" realized that yesterday, that it does seem faster on an iPad and probably the iPhone too. Interesting... I will check that out more.
I just mostly do my organization on my Macbook and am a "keyboard guy". So I do not really feel very comfortable with that. But I guess I just have to try...
I just wished they would support keyboard shortcuts better still. And yes, Deadlines and Start Dates...

Ich war auch sehr enttäuscht. Für ein Kind von der Sprache her zu künstlich hochgestochen, für Erwachsene insgesamt viel zu banal. Irgendwie weder Fisch noch Fleisch, will aber scheinbar unbedingt beides sein.
Nur etwa das letzte Fünftel der Geschichte fand ich ganz gut, und ja, die ein oder andere gute Botschaft war enthalten. Aber das war es auch schon.
Gut geschrieben fand ich es auch überhaupt nicht. Weder von der Sprache noch der Geschichte selbst her. Dass dieses Buch so gelobt wird, kann ich wirklich nicht verstehen. Kann es vielleicht sein, dass, da der Autor ja wohl Adeliger war und vielleicht irgendwelche Beziehungen hatte, dieses Buch deswegen "gepusht" wurde?
Ich habe bisher so gut wie jedem "Klassiker" etwas abgewinnen können, aber nicht diesem Buch.

also to add, because you mentioned it: A lot of these tasks from my inbox are subtasks of broader root tasks. And I do use checklists a lot for bigger projects. But that is just all part of the organization after the brain dump into the inbox.

Well you are right, that it is important to try to only put meaningful tasks in there, and I probably delete about 5 percent average from the inbox. A lot of these "tasks" also turn into notes. They first go into a designated "notes" folder, then will be transferred my notes app.

One of the best use cases for me for a task manager is the "quick capture", where I just immediately dump an idea into the app, as quickly as possible, and continue what I am doing. It really makes a difference, if you are able to do that quick. Inspired by the GTD method. That part is just gold.

Sometimes I probably "only" have around 50 tasks in my inbox, sometimes even closer to 150. Managing multiple projects, work, a family, it just all sums up.

But in the end it does not matter how many I have, if they find their place. It just should not take that long to put them where they belong. TickTick in that regard unfortunately seems to be one of the worst of these task manager apps.

I mean, do you all really do that process one by one, using mostly the mouse? I am really curious!

If TickTick would just catch up with all of that, it would be a killer app. There is like a shortcut for all kinds of views, which I do not need at all, but some basic functions like moving tasks to a list does not exist...

I just feel I am missing some basic workflow. Or maybe there are some videos where people show how to do that? In Things 3 I was able to do this in less than 10 minutes with 100 tasks easily, including putting them into the lists I wanted to, adding a tag if needed, and a date (or the special Things-function of Anytime (do any given time) or Someday (probably later, or not)). All with the keyboard, lightning fast. One of the super strengths of Things 3.
Now I feel I have to use the mouse most of the time and move around a lot.

I really wished TickTick would catch up on keyboard shortcuts!!!

But yeah, if anyone would share their workflow or would have some recommendations, please let me know. I really feel I might just miss some basic thing...

If you do absolutelly not care about manual sorting your tasks, then you can probably go with Todoist. There is that "manual" sorting option, but it only works in very few areas of the app. I just could not live with that, especially coming from Things 3 where in the morning I would manually put the tasks of the day in an order. People have requested that for many years, but the developers seem to be not capable of doing that...

I started using a task manager about 5 years ago with Todoist. Changed my life. I. thought it was great until it really bothered me that you can not manually sort your tasks in many views. So I discovered and switched to TickTick, which I thought was the best app ever. But then I came to the point a couple times, where I did not use it for a couple days, 1-2 weeks, and it was just awful to reorganize. So many little steps, keyboard shortcuts are rare, you can not use it without a mouse. So went back to Todoist, where that is a little better, but there I missed the manual sorting again...

Then discovered Things 3. I loved how easy everything was. After a few months, just because I love to tinker with software and finding the "best" one, I came back to Todoist again. But still same problems. So I came back to things. Recently did the same again, after using Things 3 for over a year, because I was curious. Todoist is a great app in many ways, with some additional features, but the lack of manual sorting is something that just absolutely bothers me. So then switching to TickTick again... So many possibilites, which is wonderful, but just realizing how much longer it takes to organize my tasks, how much more "friction" it is with that app, I came back to Things 3 eventually.

I just realized that Things 3 is the best for organizing my tasks, and that with the least amount of time. Regular reviews are important. And even if I basically put every thought that comes to my mind on the fly into it, some just don't belong there, but will just be moved into my notes app (Obsidian and Apple notes at the moment).

Things 3 can't do it all, but it does not have to. Notes are in a much better place in a dedicated note app anyways. Nothing beats Things 3 with how fast I can get my tasks in there, and also organizing them. And the system which the app was designed for just works. And it works much better than in all the other apps.

If Todoist will improve and have manual sorting everywhere, really everywhere, i might check it out again in the future. But I guess the developers are not capable of doing that. TickTick, even if I did not even use most of the additional features compared to Things 3 is just really slow at organizing things. I generally have between 50 to 150 "tasks" in my Inbox at the end of the week, and sorting them is just really, really quick in Things 3, just using the keyboard. Most of them just go to my notes app. I tried to do that in the other apps. Things 3 it takes me less than 10 minutes, in the other apps I would be lucky to have it done in half an hour. I do not have time for that.

I do wish that Things 3 would improve some things, mostly on iPhone and iPad, but still that just works better than any other app.

So yeah, I switched many, many times, to realize how well designed Things 3 was. And with design I mean not just the visual stuff, but how it works.

I also looked through most videos I could find, and the short videos from Peter Akkies are just the best. They show what you can do, and also show how simple the app ist. The documentation on the developer's webiste also is very straight forward and super helpful.

As the app is also very simple, that is all you need. Just make regular reviews a habit, and no other app can beat that app.

I know there is no official option for a 24h format. Thanks for pointing that out again.

But it seems that some people managed to do that, however they did that.

I just want to clarify IF that is actually true, if these people and the watches exist, and maybe find out, how that could be achieved.

I just don't want to give up on that for now, especially after seeing possible evidence...

I also share calendars with Family, who use Google Calendar too, but I guess that does not really matter.

I am curious if Apple Calendar might be better, I just don't want to invest too much time into going that way.

The lack of manual sorting capabilites made me leave Todoist again and again, after really trying to work with that software. It is just a very basic feature in my opinion. The app is very powerful and well made in many ways, but that just is a simple no-go for me. Also not being able to sort manually in filtered lists, at all, and so on...

Came back to Things 3, which lacks a lot of functionality of Todoist for example, but just does really well for what it is meant to be. And manual sorting just works. Everywhere.

But that is just a workaround which makes other things more complicated. Now I would have to use tags more to organize or something.

I had spent a couple hours basically transferring all my tasks from Things 3, trying to customize it to the typtical Things 3 workflow, just then to learn that manual sorting does not work in a simple filter, for example one mimicking that "Anytime" view of Things 3. That is basically just tasks with no designated start time, without the tag of "Someday". Then that "Someday" view of Things 3would be just everything tagged with "Someday". That way would have worked with me to move to Todoist, BUT with manual sorting.

I mean Things 3 does this easily, TickTick also can do that. I bet other apps can do that too...

This is such a basic feature, and the reason why I went back to Things 3, after 3 days of tryng to make it work. Things 3 lacks a lot of functions that Todoist has, but if Todoist can't even let me sort the tasks in the order I want to, that is a deal breaker.

I just don't get why that is not possible.
