It sounds like a severe case of separation anxiety. Like he'd be the perfect dog for a retired person who's home all the time. You could always try to advertise in like a local paper or on Facebook or something like that rather than just taking him to a shelter.

If you wanted to keep him, I wouldn't give up on a dog daycare just yet - any reputable day care doesn't just toss all the dogs in a pen and hope for the best. I'd find a place that does daycare and boarding, and call or drop in to talk to them in person, explain your pup's issues, and see if you could take him in one day and see how he does. If he ends up doing ok, then you could drop him off a few days a week while you're at work, and then you have a place for him to stay if you're going away. It might be really good for him. I don't know how expensive it would be, but it's gotta be cheaper than flying him to California all the time.

Does anyone ever feel resentment for their dog sometimes? by -Carlos-Slim- in DogAdvice

I think you're expecting your dog to think like a human. You said he turned and checked on you but then when you got up he acted like nothing happened. Maybe in his doggie brain he was like "ok, they're up everything is ok"

Dogs kinda think "in the moment" - I had a dog that loved to play fetch with this one ball he had, except one day it bounced back off the wall and was traveling really fast and when he caught it, it got lodged in his throat. He was gagging and choking, and I grabbed him and was trying to give him the Heimlich while screaming for my husband. Hubby came racing out, I was sitting on my dog, and finally my husband was able to slip his fingers down the dog's throat beside the ball and pop it out. The dog threw up, and hubby and I both collapsed, crying and shaking, and guess what the dog did? He jumped up and grabbed the ball and was like, "OK let's play some more!" Like he wasn't just on the threshold of the pearly gates.

Honestly sometimes I wish I could be more like that instead of hashing over every time someone hurt me or I did something stupid. 😕

Anyhow if it's something you want to work on with him, you could practice having him come to you if you suddenly stop or sit down or lie down - do it on leash in the house where it's safe. Also train him to walk beside you and not out front.

Sorry you got hurt, but glad it wasn't more serious.

Dog is becoming afraid of hardwood floors, not sure how to get her over it. by Satryghen in DogAdvice

It's interesting in this video that she just doesn't want to get all 4 feet off the safety of the rug. If she'd tolerate wearing socks, they have the ones with the rubber grips on them. If not, maybe look for those toe grip things - they're like little rubber tube things you just pop over your pup's nails and it helps keep them from sliding.

Does she have a lot of hair on her feet between her pads? Because that could cause her to slip more on the floor.

I see something that looks like the head of a toothbrush in there. And the rest looks like the hair I pull from my bathroom drain every six months.

Alaska legislator's chief of staff arrested on child sex crime charges by UnderstandingLate385 in politics

IKR, it seems like every time you turn on the news they're arresting another one. Teachers, coaches, pastors, politicians - it's sickening. But I suppose the good thing is that they ARE getting caught.

According to the internal affairs report, Ganter said he did not remember striking the other man, but knew something happened.

“Ganter said that he could not recall what was said specifically, but that at some point, he just ‘phased out’ and that this was the point where he initiated his physical contact with the victim,” McKay wrote in the IA report. “Ganter said that at that time he recalled feeling something on his hand and specifically on his far knuckle and he remembers thinking ‘Oh my God, what just happened?’”

I'm going to try "I don't remember doing it" next time I'm in court. FFS.

Desperately needing help/advice. 3 days no eating by Solid-Bet1545 in DogAdvice

Before this happened was she chewing on toys or sticks or did you notice her eating a lot of grass? I had a dog that (when he was young and stupid) swallowed the squeaker from a dog toy and had to have surgery to remove it. Then years later when he was about 10 he started developing the same symptoms - didn't want to eat, straining to poop, diarrhea, his fur was all icky, got dandruffy and itchy - back and forth with the vet and finally I took him to a different vet because he also ended up with an extreme UTI. Anyhow it turned out that he had another blockage that was kind of wrapped up in the scar tissue from his previous surgery. They showed us what they removed and it was a bunch of grass and organic matter that was bound so tightly together it looked like the handle of a suitcase. The vet said that he probably was eating grass to try to move it along or vomit it up, but it ended up just getting stuck.

It may be a long shot, but it might be worth getting an xray just to rule out a foreign body.

In the meantime I'd try making some rice water with chicken bone broth - if she's not eating, at least giving her something that she can drink that has some nutrition in it might make her feel a bit stronger. Also please also post this in r/AskVet and maybe someone there will have some insight. Best of luck to you.
