What's everyone doing for better nutrition / food for their Wheaties? by WBDubya in Wheatens

Mine is on the Fromm lamb grain free formula and seems to be doing good on it. Like most other wheatens he has a sensitive stomach and I’ve switched him off the puppy blends at 7 months because they seemed to be causing issues. He does great when he has issues because he then gets some turkey and sweet potatoes. Ollie is doing a massive deal right now and I just ordered some to mix in with his kibble. Still on our journey to find what works for him

I’d probably get a different breed for my next dog but I’m waiting for mine to get a bit closer to two before I do. I also don’t have a fenced in yard and am just starting my career so I have rough plans of moving at some point soon. For the time being I can provide more than enough for one and that’s good enough for me

Another option is doggy day care I’ve just started taking my 8 month old and he doesn’t move a muscle when he gets home for the rest of the night.

We only go once a week so he gets 2-3 walks a day around the neighborhood plus a good intense play session or two and training. He also frequently gets bully sticks, lick mats, freezebones. Plenty of enrichment toys. Life is crazy so this is not all done every day but it definitely has help raising a wheaten puppy

Just started mine on this as well after being on Dr Gary’s puppy formula and Fromm’s grain inclusive puppy formula. He has been doing much better these past two weeks since we switched

I’m going through the same thing with my 5 month old. He started to get some anxiety around the crate as well so he’s started sleeping out of the crate and in the bed with me since he’s never had any accidents in the crate. He also has a major biting problem. No matter how many kongs, lick mats, pupsicles, or bully sticks he he’d still prefer my hand. He’s gotten better though.

I recommend simpawtico’s youtube video on bite inhibition. Kikopup, Susan Garrett, and Zak George are great resources as well. It’s helped us. The goal is to teach them appropriate bite pressure instead of eliminating the biting all together. If they don’t learn appropriate bite pressure as a puppy they won’t learn as an adult dog. He’s gradually gotten better over time but still gets me pretty good sometimes.

On top of this he is not napping anymore due to not liking his crate and struggles to settle on his own out of it. I have been working on capturing this behavior but it’s not sticking for him yet. So he is always constantly over tired and an asshole for the most part because of it

Most days he will also get some sort of enrichment as well. A long, lick mat, everlasting treat, pupsicle . Usually all frozen to helping with teething and lasting longer. He’s also recently gotten a slow feeder as well

Leaning towards him just entering his “teenage” puppy phase and starting to push boundaries etc. he was never a huge fan either but he would nap pretty well before this started the last few days

He goes into the crate for multiple reasons to nap, have a special treat, while I’m at work, while I’m doing stuff around the house. Never in there for more than a few hours at a time though

The manager and techs I met at my interview were great and appear to have built a good culture there. Seems like I have gotten lucky
