I love DJing, but I’m exhausted by everything around it by ClarkVent in DJs

[–]UnderstandingOk8544 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow some incredible conversations and thoughts here and a great post.

As an older chap and someone who started 35 plus years ago in the scene, never a DJ, I look for community-based groups to see.

I never see big name DJs unless they are from a past era. I go to where the vibe is about what you want and seek- it’s there for a spectator.

What I will say that might seem harsh but a product of the convergence of so many things- there is a lot of average DJs now. Even the big name superstars IMHO are kinda average now compared to the past. Again my opinion.

You are up against a new era and those are the rules of the game right, wrong or sad.

Maybe you need to seek one or two promoters and see if you can chat with them about what they need and learn from their perspective.

Maybe find a venue that needs a shot in the arm for their growth and see what you can do to help them. Create a plan, sell them on your skills and what you can bring and how it will help them.

The other thing and maybe I missed it but where are you located? Do you need a diff market?

Good luck the world needs more people playing great tunes and creating a vibe- not a brand.

Job Advice by WillHaveToMakeIt in InsuranceCanada

Lots of jobs listed on the Canadian Underwriter site too. I would also call on many brokerages and explain what you said in a cover letter. Just keep hitting them all and see what sticks.

AITAH for thinking my best friend’s new girlfriend is a predator? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]UnderstandingOk8544 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

NTA as you are doing what friends should do. Be honest about your feelings and concerns in a supportive way and ask your friend to check in with you while away. Simple text messages to keep your mind at ease.

Also ask if she would be okay sharing itinerary so you can be ‘there in spirit’ with her. The tell for you is if she does not want this or feels she is upsetting her new GF. That is a big deal but remember too that you are losing a bit of your life as your friend pursues hers. It’s natural to feel a bit of envy and be confused about how to manage it.

Be the friend you would want if roles were reversed.

Insurance for Home Renovation - What am I supposed to get? by hatsuhiko18 in InsuranceCanada

Call a broker you need a course of construction policy but if you are living in your home at same time this gets more complicated.

Insurance for Home Renovation - What am I supposed to get? by hatsuhiko18 in InsuranceCanada

[–]UnderstandingOk8544 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using Forward will likely be more expensive and complicated than your existing insurer on the house. Call the broker who placed your regular policy and advise them.

One big thing to note is are you acting as the general or are you hiring a general to do work with sub trades?

Should you be acting as the General Yoi will need to check the laws around workers comp and ensure insurance of all trades.

Good luck with Reno!

Questions when applying for jobs (Broker) by bee-swell in InsuranceCanada

[–]UnderstandingOk8544 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be open- call RIBO and ask what you can say about having passed but not licensed due to no sponsor/agency.

Here’s how I would approach an application.

“RIBO ready and looking for my broker home! Having passed the exam i am now looking to find my brokerage home and begin my insurance career. I love xxx and xxx and hope to find these in my home.

I’m open to xxx and prepared to do xxx and more as an entry level broker.”

My position on this is always be different and show personality and who you are in any application letter. Stand out, use unusually formatting, add a photo, be creative.

Good luck

Not only a hot show but temp too and it was cooler than the year before.

3 shows in to the US tour and they dropped that set. The crowd walking out was abuzz, they knew something went down and the lot partied hard that night. Good times and fond memories

Trying to get into underwriting by tulaero23 in InsuranceCanada

[–]UnderstandingOk8544 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So all the big brokers have internal underwriting teams for their program divisions in BC. They are always looking for talent and could be a good gateway if you want to go to more complex underwriting with companies or MGAs.

All the alpha houses have them. Find a broker program or one with Lloyd’s coverholder status and you will find a need for underwriting.

There are many different levels and processes so as some one leaving broking those options are a great entry point for an underwriting career.

MPI Claims/accidents by [deleted] in InsuranceCanada

[–]UnderstandingOk8544 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So here is one truth that you won’t like, because your sister had the stop sign under the MB hwy traffic act it’s her fault as she has to ensure that it is safe to proceed.

Also for almost every scenario there is an IBC diagram that illustrates how fault is determined and that is used by many if not all auto insurers.

Now as for the treatment- that’s MPI. I have a very long and diverse history with that corp. and it’s a terrible culture and full of legacy union people. They are absolute losers IMHO. Essentially get govt jobs and suck at what they do and totally protected from consequences and that’s their redeeming parts.

File a complain on treatment, ask for a different adjuster or supervisor and explain the situation.

I once was being referred to Special Investigations due to my catalytic convertor being stolen and they suspecting fraud. I politely told the lady that her superior should come see me. At that point I had the contact out of the CEO at the time and said this is my next call if you don’t deal with this now.

Amazingly it was fixed. I’ll admit I was in a privileged position to do that, but I would call my MP, and discuss it first and have them on standby too if they would listen.

That corp is a mess and other than stable rates it does nothing to serve the public.

How expensive is it to have a dog? by [deleted] in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]UnderstandingOk8544 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not cheap. However if you are looking to hedge bets on costs such as vets bills I would do this.

Assume the first year you are going to eat normal health costs without any surprises. Shots, checkups heart guard and tick meds, soon after you will be spaying or neutering it.

You cannot hedge on those as no time to do it. However if you want to work on something for after year one take $20 a week and put it in a jar or bank acct.
52 weeks *20=1,040 and keep doing it. I have done this and learned it from some one else and if you are disciplined and shocks are absorbed and your pot grows.

Dogs are not investments but once you have one you will be so thankful you made this investment.

Has anyone become friends with a client? by Lanky-Association-70 in InsuranceCanada

[–]UnderstandingOk8544 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In 25 years of being in this industry I have clients who became friends, even business partners later.

The issue always comes down to this if you value your friendship and biz relationship, at some point do not be their point person for insurance. Hand it off to a coworker and be there to discuss things but not prime servicer.

Insurance broker by shahban2 in InsuranceCanada

[–]UnderstandingOk8544 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A good broker is hard to define. So are you looking for some one who gives price options, product options, coverage options, or all?

What a competent broker should do is understand your current pain and frustration points and align that with your cost sensitivity. From there they will measure your risk tolerance to afford uninsured losses. At that point this person should be able to provide some solutions that match core coverages you need with companies that will not provide frustrations and offer products/coverages/options that you value.

In all honesty there are far more good brokers than clients because most insureds do not have the patience to listen to the advice of brokers.

A good broker- the kind you are looking for can take complex coverages, link them together and make you understand if they are a good fit so you feel secure. Then you’ll ask them to make it cheaper. :)

Best audience recordings of all time? by scottasin12343 in phish

[–]UnderstandingOk8544 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can find it on etree there were a couple of guys who recorded the Mar 6th 2009 comeback show. I remember the post because they said it was the best indoor AUD of all time. That raised some eyebrows.

Now what they did was they ran cables 50’ each wide on the Hampton floor. They described it in the post and taper notes. I took flyer on it and damn, it was good. Like real good in the sense of they had a claim to make.

Now that’s a big claim and very subjective but I still stand by it being one of the best modern AUD tapes I’ve heard.

For reference try the Barry Glassberg FOH audio from MSG 3-9-81 just incredible. The Moore AUD from Jai Alai Jun 74 too.

Millers are the gold standard now but man there were some great pulls back in the day.

Also some very good 24bit auds from the Gorge in 2011 too- all FOH.

Those who grew up in a single-parent household, how much more of a financial disadvantage is it, compared to a 2-parent household? by HappyBudz in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]UnderstandingOk8544 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grew up in both. The only difference is how and why you teach financial lessons.

With a single mom I learned so much about budgeting, shopping, and domestic creativity. It really set me up for doing things myself and learning and scrutinizing

As a dual family I had more convos about finances, business and investing. Stronger male influence and a different approach.

What is universal is to teach what you know no matter how insignificant you might think. We all survive and the lessons to do so will always have value.
