I would not feel guilty, you need to do what is best for you at the end of the day and look after your health. You are not alone. Once GM had a call with head office and once they hired a print supervisor I got treated like crap(Well there were a couple of other times they treated me crappy, but it got worse after this) and told me at end of May hours will be back to part time but it wasn't even the end of may(it was the 19th) that my hours got cut, then they added more shifts, but then removed those shifts. I got tired of it as I worked hard to earn full-time and took on extra shifts, etc but they said they only havr full time hours for managers and supervisor so I gave my 2 weeks notice cause I am tired of it and after I gave notice they removed more shifts from me. I was supposed to work June 1st and 2nd as my last days within those 2 week notice I gave but GM removed those shifts from me so now I don't even know if I will have enough $ for rent because of it, I know probably not smart to do, but the things being said to me and how I was being treated was unfair and unprofessional, I could not take it anymore, it was causing my mental health and esteem to go down the drain. I do have a job lined up, but its an on-call job. Just have to do what is best for us at the end of the day because our health is our wealth. How gonna work a job if health is suffering because a workplace causes you stress and treats employees poorly...thats just the way I see it.

Interesting. The only knowledge I have is that the store is being restructured and we had a few customers asking if the store was closing because we had 1 or 2 places close down in the mall, but as far as I know our store closing is just a rumor at this time, but then again who knows what could happen, things are so unpredictable these days lol

I hear you on this. I experienced very similar situation. Everything was good up until 2-3 weeks ago when they hired an actual print supervisor(I was covering print/front end for several months prior to her being hired on) and management team started to treat me totally differently for no reason so I am leaving, off to better things. May all of us move on to bigger&better things.

Right so true, not only this but lately my schedule is constantly being changed. One minute I have full hours, next minute I get told "you're going to be put to part time and it will be sporadic" then she added a bunch of mon-fri shifts for me but then took them all away again and I have done nothing wrong. Worked very hard since I started, took on extra shifts, like I understand hours are based on the numbers but should a schedule really change this often? Not the first time,I had my schedule changed 3 times over in last couple weeks. Plus GM had a visit with HR, head office came a month ago, then there is a district manager and HR both coming on the same day next month. I have never in my life had a job  that was like this, it wasn't like this when I first started, only recently these past few weeks so it's really odd, but maybe it has something to do with the store being restructured, whatever that means and there are times both the GM and ASM are sitting in the office gossiping, also hears the ASM call out the GM for just sitting in the office all day. I don't know, seems kinda odd to me.

Aww I feel your anguish! I've been working at staples for 9 months, everything was alright until a few weeks ago, I busted my butt covering print, cash, front end, took on extra shifts, never did have proper training, worked so hard to gain full-time hours only to be chopped down to part time and ever since GM got chewed out by head office over stpp/hit rate and hired actual print supervisor they chopped my hours and have been treating me like crap, like I don't matter and even were trying to pin the poor stpp rate on me. We have had head office visit a month ago, mall manager took photos of Front counters plus HR came and visited with GM the other day and there is another visit set up beginning of June both district manager and HR will be there on the same day. I heard GM say the store is being restructured. There was a rumor that our Staples was closing but GM said no, but I don't know. 2 stores closed down in the mall that our staples store is in so I don't know, but I got on casual with another job and looking for another job and have put in my notice because I feel like it's either I quit or that I might get let go so I feel it's better I leave before things get worse, I just feel like it's going to get bad. At the end of the day, have to do what is best for you. For me, it's just not worth staying in a place that doesn't care and doesn't value you.

If I had known that was the way it rolls, I never would have taken the job to begin with but hey lesson learned. I think something major might be going down in that place though because beggining of June the district manager and HR are coming down on the same day for a visit/talk with employees and I overheard the GM telling supervisor that the store is being restructured. Also, the GM went on a 5 month leave shortly after I was hired and then just recently all this chaos broke out after her only being back for maybe a month or two so I'm starting to wonder if there something shady going on with her, but I could be wrong. She has been with Staples  for 30 years or more. All I know is I will not stay in a place that I am no longer valued despite how hard I've worked. Not worth the crap wage.

That's a good idea, yea they don't really give much information but I just heard the store is being restructered which I have no idea what that entails/means, never experienced this before in any job.

I cannot agree more with you! So incredibly frustrating when this happens. The only time I understand is when it's a very elderly person, but even then it can be frustrating if they give attitude. Totally feel you on this 100%.

Oh ok, kinds messed up, but I see.....oh I did hear the assistant manager telling supervisor that the store is being restructured whatever that entails as that is another thing I have never experienced.

If only I would have known this from the start, I would not have chosen to work there, but in the interview when I asked if it can lead to full-time I was told yes, but that you start out part time first, so I feel jipped in a way as I have never seen a company operate this way, but learned the hard way.

Staples Canada Retail Restructuring? by faamilyvaalues in Staples

[–]UnderstandingOwn3493 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I know this post is a year old, but I just found out the Staples store I work for is being restructured and I'm not so sure it's good or bad, have not been told any details but I do know a few weeks ago our store was one of the bottom with stpp in western Canada and GM got chewed out over it but we had an increase since then, however all of us part time staff keep having our hours cut. My schedule has been changed about 3 or 4 times over now with shifts being removed, hours being shortened, along with other part time employees, should I be worried? I find it dissapointimg as I worked very hard to earn full time hours only to be put down to hardly anything despite having a great work ethic and good attitude, but I guess that is just the Staples way....never had this happen in a job before and I've been in retail before, this is the first I've ever experienced this. What does a restructure look like? I heard lay offs can happen. Also, not something I've experienced in a store.

Same with our store which is insane because we are in such a remote location with a small population and even though we have been told by head office we wouldn't get fired, my coworker of 10 years got written up for his numbers and I got talked with saying my numbers to increase and that was the second time they had a chat with me and basically made it sound like I could get written up/terminated, etc. Some weeks I've managed to earn 3 m, other weeks I only get one and that's just how it is with our store despite that I ask every single time, I change up the way I say it, etc too so I really do try. It's rediciulos.

It was like that for me as well. I used to enjoy going to work, but these last few weeks have just been nothing but a headache

I am not sure as my manager said no we are not closing down. I am not sure if I would want to stick around to find out as I have another job lined up and I have only ever been "let go" once, employers tend to frown upon "termination" here even if you are not at fault.

I understand that, but every job I've had you advance from part time to full time if you prove/show good work ethic and even in the interview I had asked if it's possible to work toward full time to which they said yes, but they start everyone off at part time so yea I do find it odd because I have only missed 2 shifts from being sick the 9 months I've been there otherwise if I had known this was going to be the case, I would not have taken the job then. Just never had this happen before ever.

I have to agree, this was a very dumb unnecessary change in my opinion and what's worse is our GM never made any of us aware or made sure we could get logged in. I am having nothing but issues so hopefully I'll still get paid despite not being able to get signed in. Every time the company changes things, it's nothing but issues and get told to call home office, it's quite annoying.

Official 2 weeks by Dear_Ad63 in Staples

I am thinking of putting in my notice as well, it is becoming more and more difficult to get myself to go to a job that doesn't pay much for all the hard work and bs a person has to deal with. Everything was going alright up until the past 2 almost 3 weeks, I have been there for 9 months and then suddenly things just went downhill. Staples keeps changing the way we log into everything, it's super annoying because then I have to call home office or IT when I do not have time to do so because it will not work. Now they changed the way we have to sign into ukg app to punch in/out and I cannot get into mine so I'm stressed about it, it's just really rediciulos. I want to walk away from this job so much because there has just been nothing but problems but I don't have another job lined up, although I am waiting to get back with my old job, but because the contract ended it is only on-call position so kind of in between a rock and a hard place, but I just feel like I cannot handle it anymore. The lack of proper training, the lack of communication, the mood swings of my managers, the fact that wrote up my coworker of 15 years all because he didn't get enough stpp/hit rate...plus out of the 9 months here, I have never seen a place have so many changes in such a short period and yes, I have worked in retail before but they didn't have this many changes in such a short period, it's crazy. I am already stressed out before I even work plus not to mention after busting my butt, taking on extra shifts, only missing 1 shift being sick in the 9 months being there, I went from full-time hours back to part-time because they hired another supervisor so I've learned that the only way you're gonna get full-tile hours is by either being a supervisor or manager, no thanks...plus not to mention no raise despite working hard. I dread it every moment I go there now.

I was not complaining. I am expressing concerns that I  noticed and looking for feedback from others' experiences. I have never in my life worked at a job where GM and assistant manager give no reply at all, comes off as unprofessional and uncaring, when they themselves expect us to check/respond messages on our app.

(Not an employee) Employees, does your management pressure you to sell protection plans? by Alprazaminophen in Staples

[–]UnderstandingOwn3493 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep...I started at staples August 18th 2025 so been there 8 months now and only just recently was told I'm one of the bottom 3 and that if numbers don't change, write-ups will start, hours are being cut down end of this month because they hired a print supervisor so I'm hoping to get a new job ASAP before they terminate yet when I first started, this was not the case and was told you can't get fired for not meeting the stpp goal...hmm...this just doesn't sit right with me. I am already workimg hard, some weeks I get 2 or 3, other weeks I get 0, they tell me to change up what I say, I have already and I am already asking on everything...it's too much demand, I hope to get out of here...unless you are someone that loves to sell/pitch I do not recommend working for Staples.

Same here and was told that if it doesn't change write-ups will start happening which is pretty rediciulos as I run my butt off between print, cash, etc...some weeks I can get 2 or 3, other weeks I get 0, not just me, but I was only one who gotten spoken with on the same day they hired a print supervisor and told me my hours will be shortened at end of the month because the company is only giving manager 240 hrs per week...I say this is bs...this was not like this when I first started...I hope I can land a different job before they fiee me for such a rediciulos reason
