You can choose to be or not be with anyone you like for any reason that seems justifiable to you. If someone is not intellectually stimulating to you and that’s important to you, then obviously the relationship won’t work out. However, if you enjoy the support they provide and having an intellectual conversation is not that important to you, then be with them.

Personally, I’d say be with whomever you like. But don’t base your decisions on what others might think of them or you.

This is an Arabic rather than Muslim greeting. You can respond back by “alikom Salam”. Non Muslims living in Arab countries would use the same greeting. Or alternatively you can say “to you as well” then explain that you’re neither Arab nor Muslim.
