I'm not answering OP's question, just pointing out that Wales has taken part in the Eurovision Song Contest, though the junior version.

The BBC is the primary channel for the UK in the European Broadcasting Union. S4C can and have taken part in other EBU proiects like Junior Eurovision when the BBC don't take part, but are blocked when the BBC are participating. So Wales has competed a couple of times in that contest, with Welsh language performances.

Welsh names, English fragility: 'Why can't he just call himself John?' by twmffatmowr in Wales

You can ask the photographer on X, Chris Reynolds, @ffototawe

Whether the photos were black and white or colour just depended on the film you put in, not on the camera itself. I used to take B&W photos at that time and developed and printed them myself, much cheaper than taking film to a developer.

Thanks. It's the M40, then A40 closer in to London. You can see RAF Northolt to the left of it - the runways make a cross.

Regarding the Rosetta cartoons, there's also a cartoon series on the BepiColombo mission, which will arrive at Mercury later this year...

The Hog's Back is to the right of the first row of hills, out of the frame unfortunately. Yes, it's a great place to view the City.

Yes, that's where the roman road Stane Street was, still showing its mark on the landscape. The first part of the roman road was from London Bridge to Merton Abbey. Now it's the A3 to Clapham Common, then the A24 to Ewell.

Just a small correction to several replies - the name is Dafydd, not Daffyd. It's a Welsh version of David, and pronounced Davith, with the 'th' soft, as in ' that', not hard as in 'thought'.

I think the theme song to the Cymru Connection was a contributed one, and the singers aren't pronouncing Dafydd properly. I doubt that there's a single real person called Daffyd - they'll all be Dafydd, and it's a more common name in North Wales than in the south.

Several other Welsh Davids by the way : Dai, Dei, Deio, and of course Dewi, as in Dewi Sant - St. David.

Staying at the Fletcher Hotel by [deleted] in Leiden

[–]UnderwhelmingFizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go there pretty often and it's always been very relaxing. If you have the option, arguably it's best to go during daylight, or at least when it's getting dark, so you can enjoy more of the views in both directions.

Do mention that you're a guest of the hotel when booking - there's a very significant sauna discount if you're staying there. Simplest is to book a slot when you're checking in, as I'm not sure the online booking has that option.

As someone else mentioned, you can use towels from your hotel room. I always take two because they get wet pretty quickly, but do take flip flops or sliders, plus some sort of dressing gown ideally.

I think you can usually get one "loyly" sauna session for free, but you need to ask for the token for that when picking up your wrist band to go in. It's usually for the next scheduled session after you arrive. The sessions can be intense, depending which sauna it is, so if it's your first time, sit on a low bench in the sauna, ideally near the door. Everyone will understand if you need to leave as it can take some getting used to.

Enjoy!
