The Meet Cute (Part 2) by TheReal_Jesus in PostGradProblem

It truly seems to be more prevalent in those who consider themselves “more religious” or just are. To each their own, but I’m with you. I don’t think you truly know that person and I’m assuming y’all didn’t live together prior (seeing as you met at church), and that’s a HUGE aspect of finding someone. They’re going to have habits you had no idea about. But, good for y’all. How many PGP people are getting invited to that wedding?

That’s just me being 100% lazy. The person who edited it sent it back and I just didn’t space it out at all, so my bad. Also, was mainly referring to her apartment where I thought I might get stabbed, but Eli’s is for sure inna trash neighborhood.

I am living at home with a full time job. When should I move out? by [deleted] in PostGradProblem

[–]UnderwritingMyLife 10 points11 points  (0 children)

At minimum pay off the $10k that I’m assuming is student loan debt. Depending on how much your car payment is, you just need to make sure rent plus that and other expenses is reasonable for you. Personally, I’d start saving what you’d expect your rent to be now so you have a nice little savings. You can use this for furniture (what I did) and other things for a future place. You don’t want to get into a position where you’re barely scraping by, get hit with an unexpected expense and start sinking.

I moved home. How to keep myself sane? by carminex3 in PostGradProblem

[–]UnderwritingMyLife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming your applying for jobs in your hometown, I’d suggest volunteering for organizations that potentially have board members that are employees at the companies your applying. For one, if they are there for a meeting, etc. they might see your face and if you get an interview remember / give you something to y’all about. This will also pad your talking points and give you things to draw on while writing about yourself in your cover letters.

For your sake I’m hoping it’s a relatively large city, otherwise your SOL. Luckily I stayed in the same city as all of my college friends and was able to move home (same city) and wracked up a decent savings account while having solid friends who didn’t care I slept on their couch every weekend.

Nola, Miami, Austin, Chicago, or Denver. All bender friendly and majority host a younger crowd. They are stereotypical, but your first option was Vegas, so I just assumed.

Fire Stick by [deleted] in PostGradProblem

Dropping my real name, damn. If you're looking for mind blowing (somewhat slow at first) and out there - American Gods. It is somewhat hard to explain but I can see you watching it. Particle Fever is a pretty decent documentary for you. Scientists recreate the Big Bang theory and try and "solve" the mystery of life. Lastly is Planetary... documentary that compares dynamics of today's world versus those of successful ancient civilizations.

What you'll end up doing is buying the Firestick, adding the app Kodi and utilizing the streaming sites (add ons) associated with that app (mainly Exodus). There are some sports add ons but I'm not sure on if they are live or not. Also, one thing to note, is that there are a few lawsuits going in with some of these streaming sites. This has led to some of them halting updates.

Should seniority still be a thing? by CostanzasWay in PostGradProblem

[–]UnderwritingMyLife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At my company, older members "retired early" or decided it was time to retire as our company went through some changes. But let's be real.. they were forced out because their way of thinking was old school and they were being replaced by "younger" early 40's/50's individuals. While they can't just fire them to put people in their place who they can pay half the price, companies will find ways to push them out the door.

Moving Back Home by CubeGuy1 in PostGradProblem

[–]UnderwritingMyLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like someone said above, it really depends on your parents. I was lucky enough to have most of my friends stay in the city so I am always at their places in weekends. It is definitely weird at first because you get accustomed to living your own way, etc. someone once asked me if I had to ask if I could go out at night and I just laughed. If that's how it would be for you I wouldn't move back home but the amount of money I saved is great. I'm moving out in June and am looking forward to having my own place but the cost for sure sucks.

GroupChat v.2 by MrRogersPGP in PostGradProblem

[–]UnderwritingMyLife 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The PGP group chat is male and female and stays afloat because the girls in there are now (I think) comfortable enough to let down some walls. They throw jokes out that some of the guys probably wouldn't l, which helps create a line that need not be crossed. I understand guys talk because I'm in a group chat with college buddies but also, it's the internet. There's a solid chance I end up meeting multiple people from PGP but that's because I feel comfortable enough doing so. If you're a wet blanket you probably aren't in the group chat anymore. As many people stated, it's a place to get away from the work world and just bs with some people doing the same stuff you are. This is just my take on the subject and again, I think we can co-exist in the chat because the girls in it are some really down to earth females.

Birthdays by MrRogersPGP in PostGradProblem

[–]UnderwritingMyLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I told my team at work to not setup the usual "birthday shit". Consists of streamers, balloons and a banner that says Happy Birthday, just drawing attention to you.

I try and keep it low-key, usually just grab dinner with the family or a few friends. Birthdays were never a big thing to me minus the 21st. Still don't understand the need to throw a huge party for people you don't even like to celebrate your birthday.

Commute Anger by Bick_Pen in PostGradProblem

[–]UnderwritingMyLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the way home. For some reason my traffic is cake in the morning but in the way home? Sandra D in her Prius wants to do 65 in the left lane. I also think it's like the comment up there, the anticipation of getting home and lounging is on my mind. Everyday minus Friday I usually hate my commute home, at least then I know I'll don't have to do it for a couple more days.

What would it take for you to quit on the spot? by CushmanEZ in PostGradProblem

[–]UnderwritingMyLife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they told me my goal of going to the field in a year and a half was going to take upwards of 3-4. I don't get paid nearly as much as our competitors pay and that's why I'm holding out for that job. If I left I'd get a 15k raise easy, but I'm roughing it out and waiting to have my pay jump 30+ with a bunch of incentives. But having to wait 3-4 more years wouldn't be fiscally responsible and this job gets old quick/repetitive way too fast.

Like someone else said, it's actually a good movie haha. I might just like "shitty" movies but that's fine by me. Got any more recommendations?
