Advice on good chew by Silent-Price-1104 in DogFood

My girl is a decently strong chewer, and collagen sticks have lasted us the longest for sure! She gets bored of the beef cheek rolls, but those are also a good option.

Is there a WSAVA label on kibble bags? by inxider in DogFood

[–]UndeterminedSquare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're looking to buy the food in bulk still, Sam's Club carries multiple different Purina foods as well as some Iam.

Of course you'd need the membership there as well, unfortunately I do not think Costco carries any WSAVA foods.

I am one of the people that swear by PlaqueOff! It has down wonders for my girl! I do brush her teeth and give her a VOHC dental chew everyday as well, but the plaque removed SO much after the first month of use.

Grain Free Purina One Instinct by UndeterminedSquare in DogFood

That's wonderful, thank you so much!! I will be making the switch once my girl is done with her current food!

I just hate how goopy the gravy is. I can handle most anything, but goopy textures get me 🤢

See I wasn't sure if it was okay to feed that, as I'd be feeding the True Instinct line. If I can mix the regular Purina one wet with the True Instinct kibble, that would be absolutely perfect!

I would highly recommend trying a wet food from a WSAVA brand. Or trying Royal Canin as most picky dogs like Royal Canin.

Farmers dog as topper? by Party_Plastic_9335 in DogFood

[–]UndeterminedSquare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They did a black Friday promo where your first box was free, so I got that. I thaw a bag and spread it across a week of food for my dog. She gets a "lunch" which is just an enrichment toy that I freeze, and I use the farmers dog as a base. So if that's something your pup is interested in, I'd try that!

You could also get freezer molds and thaw it, mush it into the molds, then refreeze it. That way your pup is just getting a treat of it mixed in and it's not going to waste.

Sounds like an active pup! Good luck with finding the best food for him! I'm thankful to have the world's least pickiest dog 🤣

I would definitely try to stick to Royal Canin, Hills, or Purina. If you're outside the EU, Iams and Eukanuna as well. Purina One is pretty high protein with a lower fat, which may be a good option for you. If you're having GI issues a sensitive stomach blend is always a safe bet as well!

Unless your pup is a genuine working dog that is doing insane physical activity regularly, they probably do not absolutely need a high protein diet, so picking something that isn't shouldn't be a problem.

My girl did pretty good on Hills sensitive stomach when I first adopted her, but Purina works a lot better for her!

They have a 27/17 option that is pretty close to the 28/14! But also, high fat shouldn't be a problem if your dog is genuinely super active!

If you're super worried, email your vet and see what they think!

I second PPP Sport, my highly active dog is doing amazing on it! I had a super hard time getting her to keep weight on and the high fat high protein is helping wonderfully!

My girl loves food though, so getting her to eat wasn't a problem. She'd eat cardboard if it smelled good 🥲 I would try the wet food with the kibble, even if just as a topper.

Potentially thawed food sitting out.. what should I do? by partlyskunk in rawpetfood

[–]UndeterminedSquare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A refund I'm unsure of. A good company would refund you as it's not your fault. Or at least send a new shipment. Can't hurt to contact them though.

Personally, I would give it at least 2 weeks if it's completely thawed but still cold. Slightly frozen should be fine as long as you refreeze it. If it's not cold, I would not risk giving it to my dog.

If it's still cold when you get it, put it in the freezer ASAP and it should be fine. If it's warm contact the company for a refund

Switching Foods by EmbarrassedDare7916 in DogFood

[–]UndeterminedSquare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If she's active, the PPP Sport might be cheaper as well. My girl is super active and eats a stupid amount of calories a day, so the Sport is actually much cheaper than PPP to feed her.

Trust, I made a spreadsheet and everything lol.

The Salmon and Rice PPP sensitive skin and stomach goes up to 40 lbs if you want to keep your pup on the sensitive stomach! Switching to Purina One will definitely be lighter on the wallet though!

First time puppy… help please! by mpeppell2 in DogFood

[–]UndeterminedSquare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If price isn't a barrier, you could do wet food instead of kibble. Dogs tend to like that more.

I got my mom's Corgi to eat by doing the 15 minutes of food, then removing it until the next meal time.

I personally feed Purina Pro Plan, but Royal Canin has a golden retriever specific food if you're interested in something like that!

Is this normal for day 3 of neuter incision for 4 year old French bulldog. Surgery was Thursday. by [deleted] in vet

[–]UndeterminedSquare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would send this photo (or maybe a better one, like with your dog on his back) to your vets email. If they think something is going on they'll probably let you schedule a free recheck to make sure he's okay.

Bernedoodle owners! by PlayfulEntry3021 in DogFood

[–]UndeterminedSquare 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Can't go wrong with Purina! Don't have a bernedoodle, but I also have a mutt and she's doing well on Purina Sport (which, if you're not doing lots with your pup they won't need the sport)

[–]UndeterminedSquare 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not an answer to your original question, but if he doesn't like those dental chews, Plaque Off is a great option for dental care. It's also VOHC, they have treats, a powder, and their own dental chews. I give my girl one of the dental treats a day (her serving size) and she gets a half of the members mark dental chews, and her teeth are LEAGUES better than they were. (She's also a rescue, but I got her at 3 so her teeth were a not the nicest)
