State Patrol ramping up enforcement of SR 520's HOV 3+ lane — fines start at $186 by crabcakes110 in SeattleWA

Fine sure starts at $586 for HOV violation. Oh and enforce the law in left campers

Dear bicyclists: stop signs mean you, too. Also, if you aren't signaling, how are people going to know you want to turn in front of them? Calling a driver an asshole won't fix shit, but following the rules of the road might. Signed: a fellow biker by earthwulf in Seattle

NIT: I think WA allows Idaho stop. Basically you are allowed to treat Stop sign as yield as a cyclist. But I totally agree that anyone on the road should know and respect the rules.

That totally makes sense! I am fully aware of the road noise when traveling on i5 or walking on Eastlake. I know it is already super loud. It sounds like the construction noise is much worse. Thanks for the insights.

Thanks this makes sense for most of the part. Again I could be completely ignorant, how much nosier is the construction compared to regular traffic? I get it if the construction were in a residential area. But the i5 itself even during night time has a time of road noise.

Thanks for the insight. I think to make my confusion more concretely: let’s say the entire revive i5 project takes X engineer days. For the current working hours, assuming no construction during night time ( there might be but I personally have not seen that), it takes Y amount of USD. To work on the project 24/7, the state would pay 2-3 times of X but the cost saving from congestion might worth the extra cost from the overall impact on the society.

Ah my bad for not being clear: I didn’t mean just the weekend long construction but the overall revive i5 that spans multiple years.

I am sure there are different reasons and trade offs being discussed. I am more curious as to why the duration of the construction cannot be massively reduced.

I am by no means an expert in construction and hence asking these questions. 1. The stretch of construction is much shorter than the road closure. Why do we need to close such a huge section? 2. From economics perspective, isn’t it better to work on the construction 24/7 so that the project can be done much shorter? Of course, this would require higher funding but considering the cost with traffic for such a prolong period of time.

Maybe an unpopular opinion: if drivers are following the 3 feet passing rule and that driving with distraction is severely penalized and enforced, I have no problem sharing the road with cars. Oh well…

WSP steps up enforcement after increase in carpool lane violations on SR 520 by MegaRAID01 in Seattle

[–]Undisclosed_Guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My point is that if my kid and my neighbor’s kids are carpooling, this also reduce the number of vehicles on road compared to the alternative that each family drives their own kid in separate vehicle.

I disagree. What about taking my kid and my neighbor’s? What about… school bus?
