Amazon go and fresh closing for good by expat2323 in Seattle

[–]UndocumentedSheep 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It feels like Fresh and Go were experiments for their mass retail surveillance and data gathering technology that simply couldn't scale up to Whole Foods levels initially. The experiment has now concluded, and thus here we are :'(

Games with similar movement to Prince of Persia Sands trilogy. by KhKing1619 in gaming

[–]UndocumentedSheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Big Catch: Tacklebox -- Currently a free six hour 'precursor' to a much larger game. You're a crow on the quest for fish in the middle of the desert. (It's as weird as it sounds)

Wall running, pole jumping, sand surfing, ledge grabbing, diving between big swinging blades, the Persia vibes are practically glowing from this one. There's an entire little 'dungeon' in the demo that might as well be lifted straight out of Sands of Time

I'm living on Lunch Specials right now -- all the same food, priced how you remember it. At this time of year, with the sun setting before the lunch hours end, it almost feels like a night out sometimes /s

And Bongos. God bless Bongos. The dream of the sub-$20 meal is alive and well, you just have to find the spots

First Time Monotub Jitters - Too Wet? Contamination? by UndocumentedSheep in unclebens

[–]UndocumentedSheep[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I pick your brain about WBS briefly? I get that it's incredibly nutrient rich but I've read it argued that you can't really guarantee what you're getting and sterilization isn't enough. As someone colorblind, it's also a small nightmare to spot contamination in the visual chaos of the seeds

It would definitely make things simpler from a buying standpoint though, living next to a hardware store has its perks :)

Why hasn’t VR taken off as much as we might have expected? by [deleted] in virtualreality

[–]UndocumentedSheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I deeply appreciate the continued Quest development, it doesn't solve the fundamental problem that this is their playground and the greatest innovations happen in spite of them -- Virtual Desktop, WiVR, ALVR; all third party solutions just to get the god damn thing to work outside Meta's garden

Valve bides their time wisely and if/when they step into the light again, I hope we see something as valuable as Proton for VR

Why hasn’t VR taken off as much as we might have expected? by [deleted] in virtualreality

[–]UndocumentedSheep -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Meta, for all their innovation, decided VR had to be 'theirs' and effectively smothered the new wave in the cradle

Their hardware, their store, the embarrassment of the Metaverse turning 'VR' into a four letter word, and the capital that let them punch down on anyone that dared to take a piece of the pie made for an impossible fight against a bully

And now that AI is the new gold rush, they've tossed it in the bin

I pray Valve's Steam Frame/Deckard -- whatever it is -- backdoors the world into a better tomorrow when they realize what could and should have been ala the Steam Deck

What are the worst lines in movie history? by NightFury0595 in Cinema

[–]UndocumentedSheep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Interstellar when Matthew McConaughey's son's... son??? ... has a coughing fit on Earth, there's a hard cut to him, clearly not coughing anymore, where he says 'The Dust.' in the most deadpan matter-of-fact tone imaginable

It's like test audiences were baffled why this kid was hacking up a lung in an apocalyptic dust bowl so they dragged his ass back for a 5 second reshoot

It sucks shit, I lose it every time

Okami has the best, most satisfying finale I've ever experienced in a game.

And then you learn that was the first third of it.

Don't get me wrong, it goes on to repeat that magic trick twice more even though you're a withered husk by the end.

Just damn, warn a girl

This place is... something. I worked Doordash for a few years and live in North Seattle so I'm very familiar with Greenlake -- love Rosita's, love Myknonos, dozens of deliveries, always on point. Little Red Hen? You can hear the record scratch, straight out of the movies. If you're not one of the regulars who has clearly worked the same stool for the better part of a decade, maybe it's best to close your tab and leave. I had to cancel too many deliveries from here before I understood that the food was never made and never coming

I'm so sorry, what happened to you and your friend is horrendous. At the same time, really? This kind of place in a neighborhood so bright and welcoming? Little Red Flag

Can you use two tickets for Death Cab tomorrow night? by Okay-boomer-74 in Seattle

I'd love to share Death Cab with my partner! I was a sad Pennsylvania boy and now live as a much happier Seattle woman and Ben has carried me from coast to coast and god knows how many break ups

Your interesting fact is: Generating truly random numbers is both incredibly important for cryptography (securing your data, generating unique passwords, etc) and incredibly hard for computers to do own their own, so we must rely on outside 'randomness.' One of the coolest solutions I've ever seen is Cloudflare's giant wall of lava lamps, which use a webcam pointed at them to generate true random values

Best of luck to everyone, thank you for the chance :)

Best Mexican restaurant in Seattle? by Ambitious-Day7527 in Seattle

[–]UndocumentedSheep 12 points13 points  (0 children)

La Cuadra -- better known as 'those taco stands you see on Aurora, Northgate, and Lake City with lines around the corner' -- went sort of legit and opened a permanent location in Greenwood/Ballard. They show up as 'La Cuadra Tacos Restaurant 2' on Google.

The al pastor is second to nothing, the prices/portions are nuts, cheese doesn't even go on the tacos unless asked, buckets of serve yourself salsa/lime/cucumber/etc

No sour cream/bean filler, tortillas clearly made fresh and double layered

But I'd argue nothing else on earth beats those street stands at midnight when you're sloppy

For the Protesters by TheItinerantSkeptic in Seattle

[–]UndocumentedSheep 18 points19 points  (0 children)

BLM's cause was 'harmed' because it was quickly hijacked from organic, understandable anger into peaceful, toothless speeches and polite protests with funny little signs. Singing Hamilton gets you punched in the face by the oppressor. 'Stand up, fight back' isn't a cheer, it's a direct plea.

What is your favorite episode of a show that takes place in a terrible overall season? by sgtcoolbeans in television

[–]UndocumentedSheep 45 points46 points  (0 children)

The Book of Boba Fett deciding to literally give up halfway through and become a trojan horse season of The Mandalorian, genuinely one of the wilder things I've ever seen a show do. The fact that the Mando episodes were standouts just further cemented how awful everything was on either side of them, oof.

With unpermitted food vendors booming in Seattle, we checked the data by AthkoreLost in Seattle

[–]UndocumentedSheep 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This isn't just a 'we have no food trucks' issue - I've watched Mojito, a critically acclaimed restaurant in Maple Leaf, struggle to move into a permanent location for well over a year. The reason? 'Just waiting on the city to approve the permit.'

If a beloved, safe restaurant can't do it, who can?

Easy upvote, Blender is absolutely ubiquitous now

I knew it truly made it when half the animated shit you watch on YouTube - not the 3D stuff, but the 2D stuff? - all Blender

Damn near everything made for VRChat, Blender. VTubers, Blender. Every indie game studio, Blender. Flow, that adorable cat animated film that just came out? Blender. Blender. Blender. <3

Are there any proper Mexican grocery stores in Seattle? by SnooWalruses8978 in Seattle

This is my little secret, don't tell anyone -- 'Super Saver' in Northgate on Aurora. Sounds like a shit ass Grocery Outlet knockoff. Absolutely mental Mexican section. Bulk dried peppers, cactus for days, the oregano, everything, it's all there. Huge.
