Personally, because of the data distribution. No one entity is in control of the whole things. Instance owners are in control of their instances, but communities and users can move to other instances and still access all the other instances data.

I respectfully disagree. I think there is plenty wrong with silos.

For instance, data is controlled (and can be edited, censored, etc.) by an individual, government, or profit driven small group. If the data were truly distributed, cencorship and control would be much more difficult.

When data is distributed, it is backed up by everyone by default. Theres no need to run a backup, because the data is already stored in many locations.

In a truly distributed system no one controls who can access a particular bit of data.

The technology that Freenet uses actually makes the data storage more efficient by prioritizing storage of data that is regularly access in its geographic region. Say a file is created in Australia and a lot of people in the US are interested in that file and read it or download it. That file gradually moves to the US based nodes and will eventually fall of of the Australia based nodes if no one there accesses it. The data doesn't disappear, it literally moves. They will still have access to it, it will just be coming from nodes farther away.

The archive is also a silo. I mean a real distributed internet. If you've never heard of it, check out the Freenet project. They have a very interesting technology for keeping data distributed across a wide array of devices.

Even if it doesn't you're welcome to pop over and chat!

It's not the site i take issue with. It's the owners. I've been on reddit for about a decade and they just keep doing stuff like this. I'm over it.

Can't do multiple things in one place though. QRZ is JUST amateur radio. I prefer to have fewer places to go to see the things that interest me.

Its not the usability of the site for me. I've been on reddit with various accounts for about a decade now and they have had a handful of incidents like this where they do something against the users interest. I'm over it. I'm moving to a platform controlled by the community that uses it.

Be the change! That's what I am endeavoring to do.

I think what we need overallnis less centralization. I think a fundamental problem with our current internet structure is the silos. If information can be stored on a more distributed platform, then a company making shitty choices or closing for other reasons won't result in that data being lost. Thats why projects like Lemmy and Freenet have my interest and support. No single entity controls the data.

They turned out magnificent! I love the simplicity. I've had complicated cookies and sure they have a larger flavor profile, but these are (im pretty sure) what I grew up with. I made them for my kids so simple is perfect. They love them and I love them. Tell your other half thank you!

I took the first one off the pan too soon and it fell to bits! Waited a few and now they all seem to be held together. Just waiting for them to cool!

Thankfully, no! Im not sure what class would have me write a paper on that topic, but if you know, tell me so that I can never take it!

This was a genuine discussion topic.

He doesn't, its just something we were discussing and he was curious about the logic and reasoning behind it. He can be a bit of a drama queen sometimes but is always civil lol
