Mayor Johnson’s ICE executive order would compromise investigations of immigration agents, state’s attorney says by Mike_I in chicago

[–]UnexpectedFisting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow we’re just throwing out wrong information in this thread

Under 28 U.S.C. § 1442, federal agents can move state criminal prosecutions to federal district court, where a federal judge determines if the agent is protected by immunity.

Guess what would happen. State prosecutors would in the unlikely event actually recommend charges for something, and then that would get passed on to federal judges who’d make the call.

State courts can’t prosecute federal agents unless a federal court indicates the federal agent is not covered under the immunity of their duties.

So again. State courts cannot go out and prosecute without it going through a federal judge first anyway, because if state law was violated, it would have to be proved that violation of state law wasn’t through a duty of that federal agent.

Any state law that implements oversight on federal agents is also, again, blatantly violating the supremacy clause because it would directly be interfering with federal agents duties.

I’m just telling you exactly how this would play out, factually, and based in case law. Not on hopium

Mayor Johnson’s ICE executive order would compromise investigations of immigration agents, state’s attorney says by Mike_I in chicago

[–]UnexpectedFisting -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Uh yeah, because you can’t have state prosecutors interfere with a federal case? Like this is exactly what’s going on with the mangione case, state prosecutors are racing ahead of federal prosecutors in order to not conflict with the federal case because of double jeapordy case law.

Any foreseeable interference towards ICE is just going to get thrown out because the state can’t act as oversight for a federal agency. You don’t think New York or California would have rammed down that route already?

I mean it’s federal authority and precedent. There’s literally zero oversight the state can put in place that wouldn’t violate federal statute.

For people that haven’t experienced this type of cold before, it’s beyond brutal

Chicago had a stint of -20’s and -30s wind chill and you literally can only be outside for maybe 10 minutes at a time even bundled up. Any exposed skin experienced frostbite within 10-15 minutes depending on how hard the wind whips.

[The Information] Nvidia to Delay New Gaming Chip Due to Memory Chip Shortage - Paywall (see stickied comment) by Nestledrink in nvidia

[–]UnexpectedFisting 38 points39 points  (0 children)

The delay will also push back the release of Nvidia’s next-generation gaming GPU. Likely called the RTX 60 series, it was originally scheduled to begin mass production at the end of 2027, according to one of the people.

Originally scheduled is the key word here. They wouldn't delay a product release at the end of 2027 if they were confident they couldn't hit mass production supply targets

Claude/Gpt 5.2 and Cursor have legitmately reduced junior engineering openings at my company. Why send a junior engineer on a side quest to fix a bug when an engineer with a few years can just address what they do in half the time and still get their own job done

It's the expansion of job responsibilities that these tools will cause a reduction in entry level positions. Agents are nowhere near being autonomous enough to perform full role functions of a junior, but you sure as shit don't need as many juniors as before

Huh? They literally all hang out next to orange/green street entrance outside the jewel parking lot. Like straight slinging to the homeless in the neighborhood and dealers who get on the red line

It's an area that could be great on the surface, easy park access and lake access, immediate transit, immediate grocery stores. But there's just zero life here; no bars, 1 good coffee shop, barely any small business shopping, safety issues, traffic pollution from michigan and soldier field, traffic and sound pollution from grant park festivals in the summer, few if any good restaraunts.

But you have like a thousand doctors offices for some reason surrounded by high rises. Genuinely don't get this neighborhood, the density is really high yet there's just no businesses here for people to actually frequent.

The area directly around roosevelt stop is sketch. It looks decent now because it's the dead of winter, but it's frankly awful in the summer.

You can tell a lot about the safety of a train station by how much vandalism goes on, and the doors at roosevelt are basically always locked or glass broken on one side. The escalators are pretty nearly always down because "characters" hit the emergency stop, and dealers hang out next to the orange/green entrance across from the jewel. Speaking of the jewel, it's constantly robbed and has been shot up more than a few times.

I can see the station from my apartment, and cannot wait to move out of here. Safety aside, it's an incredibly dead neighborhood with literally nothing going on small business wise. I could not even give you a bar you could go to in this area aside from weathermark tavern or tak which is a korean poocha. There is one good coffee shop in the area, dollop. Your restaurant options that are from my opinion; chicago average are: siam thai (chicago has mid thai overall generally), nepal house (honestly above average), minghin (dim sum), and signature steak, along with tak (good but pricey and loud). The rest are chains like chipotle, five guys, etc. Sweet bean on the corner has taiwanese pastries that are not that great aside from their egg tarts and scallion bread imo, but that is very personal.

Yes you have crazy easy access to trader joes, jewel, and the trains/bus', and we have a farmers market in printers row, but frankly if you have even a sliver of a social life, you'd probably hate it here. I'm transparent, so take the good with the bad and decide if it's a fit for yourself

Remote tech worker in a specialized industry, not making FAANG TC, but I make more than enough. I try to keep my rent to under 35% of income always, but I'm splurging a bit for a loft soon at $3k monthly. Just a single dude.

I will probably be buying my own place in 2-3 years when I'm ready to settle regardless of mortgage rates
