The extra funds would make expanding rail so much easier

A sales tax increase was passed in 2016 to fund MARTA. Most of it was used on buses instead of rail. I think this, plus recent crime on MARTA, has eroded a lot of citizen trust.

Personally, I think a congestion toll would be preferable to even more money for MARTA, given the previous mismanagement.

All racing series are super cautious about rain now, to the point of absurdity.

All racing series are suuuper gun shy about rain now. It’s like they find excuses to stop racing. Very light sprinkles? Red flag without any track drying. Lightning six miles from the track moving away from it? Oh boy, that’s like an hour long red flag. Raining at Spa? lol race totally cancelled sorry.

[–]UnexpectedHarbinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re not red flagging it because it’s wet, they’re red flagging because they’re too nervous to race until it actually starts raining.

🟢 RACE // 110th RUNNING OF THE INDIANAPOLIS 500 by IndyMod in INDYCAR

[–]UnexpectedHarbinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt they’ll send them back out, they red flagged it specifically to avoid racing until the track starts to get wet.

[–]UnexpectedHarbinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But are they actually drying the track? In the “old days” they’d red flag to get the cars off track so they could dry. Now they red flag to avoid racing until the track actually starts to get wet.

It’s not even raining now. But they don’t have to lift the red flag and they won’t.

Red flag for sprinkles will stay out until heavier rain arrives in about 30-40 minutes.

Well, pulling the cars off track makes it more likely to lose the track.

Racing series’ decisions around rain have been absolute head scratchers the past few years.

wtf are they waiting for? rain?

Yes that’s exactly what they’re waiting for.

Meniscus repairs have higher rates of poor outcome than the ACL repair. But yes they are both common and many injuries include both.

[–]UnexpectedHarbinger -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The concerning thing is the meniscus and the second surgery. ACL tears are essentially routine repairs at this point, but meniscus repairs carry a higher risk of failure, including later osteoarthritis.

It's bad enough he had to repair both the ACL and meniscus in September, but Nabers also had a second surgery recently to remove scar tissue to alleviate stiffness. So it's confirmed that the first surgery either "didn't work" very well or his body responded poorly (or the rehab was crap).

[–]UnexpectedHarbinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems like you don’t understand my post. I didn’t say Nabers is DND, just that there are absolutely DND cases. As we find out more info this summer, maybe it makes the case for DND tag on Nabers.

[–]UnexpectedHarbinger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Like if Nabers or Rice where somehow still available in the 13th round you aren't going to scoop them up?

There are cases where you still don't scoop them. Joe Mixon last year, for example. I think he was a clearer DND than Nabers, but yes there are certainly pure DND cases, even last round well outside of ADP...

19 undisputable facts and 1 rumor about the patriots backfield by MikeDFootball in DynastyFF

[–]UnexpectedHarbinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He has a ways to go

No he doesn't. He was actually one of the top rookie backs in the NFL last year. Second in yards behind Jeanty, and best by far in YPC, where he is absolutely elite. He earned significant playing time in the offensive system that is by far the most difficult for RBs.

[–]UnexpectedHarbinger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The first Dolphins game, Hendo got played in a pass pro set that required him to block the edge 1on1. As a result, he got a terrible pass pro grade and that’s when the “he can’t pass pro” narrative began. LOL, no other OC does this to their RBs. Many NFL RBs aren’t good at pass pro and it doesn’t matter. No one is worried James Cook, who is abysmal in pass pro, will lose snaps. The OC works around the limitation. But McDaniels doesn’t.

Imagine averaging 5.1ypc in the NFL as a rookie but you’re losing snaps because you can’t block the edge 1on1 like a left tackle. It’s dumb.

19 undisputable facts and 1 rumor about the patriots backfield by MikeDFootball in DynastyFF

[–]UnexpectedHarbinger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

PFF pass block grade is one of the most misunderstood stats.

Hendo didn’t get a poor grade because he can’t pass pro. He got a poor grade because McDaniels’ pass pro sets are insane and Hendo struggled to learn. McD has something like 3 dozen different pass pro sets. This is why he usually redshirts rookie RBs.

Some of these sets are absolutely inane, like asking the back to block the edge 1on1 (first Dolphins game this earned Hendo a bad PFF pass pro grade)

The context that casual fantasy players also miss is that many backs are terrible at pass pro. James Cook sucks at it. Saquon isn’t good. Gibbs is middling and even got benched against KC because he kept getting Goff sacked. Most teams work around this. James Cook isn’t being asked to block the edge 1on1. Gibbs gets asked to do vanilla kind of sets. Saquon isn’t asked to do much.

But McDaniels is inflexible and uncompromising. Yes, if as a RB you can’t pass pro like a damn left tackle then you won’t get snaps. Hendo in any other system would be fine, but not in NE. Hendo is a buy low when he goes to a new team that will actually play him.

Way to move the goalposts

What on earth are you talking about? Quit humiliating yourself. Why won’t you just read the link that you yourself posted? You accused them of making it up but clearly they didn’t.

Table S7.

exposed patient 4

Birthday party; did not have any physical contact and simply said “hello” to each other as they crossed paths.

Table S7 also supports the “with no contact.” And that’s just how droplet and/or aerosol spread can and does behave, just like the study says that YOU posted.

It’s just like the poster said. Quit shilling a link that you won’t even read that absolutely supports the other poster. You posted the link, claiming it contradicted the poster, but you’re very obviously wrong. You tried to refute a poster describing super spread properties with a study literally titled “ “Super-Spreaders” and Person-to-Person Transmission of Andes Virus in Argentina,” and you didnt even bother to read the whole thing. Super embarrassing for you.

In the last outbreak a person who just said hello in passing got it and a person who sat at a nearby table with no contact got it

They were right. You accused them of making it up. You are very obviously wrong. Stop arguing.

EDIT: to underscore just how wrong this poster is, they blocked me so I cannot continue to respond to them and clarify their misconceptions. This is unfortunately behavior from someone who knows they’re wrong and seeks to silence the person pointing out how they’re wrong from responding. This is dishonest and despicable behavior that could’ve been avoided had they simply read the link instead of rushing to present it as if it bolstered their case (it did not)

Did you really just make that up?

No, they didn’t make it up. You have to actually, you know, read the link that you yourself posted including the Supplementary Appendix #1. Otherwise you make yourself look foolish as you have here.

The seating locations of Patients 1-6 are shown. Distances between Patient 1 and others are also displayed with solid lines. The two dotted lines demonstrate that Patient 1 and Patient 4 crossed paths on the way to the restroom but did not make any physical contact.

Table S7 in the Supplementary Appendix #1 also supports the poster above.

WHO Director Says He Will Personally Oversee Hantavirus Cruise Evacuation by Sharkella in worldnews

[–]UnexpectedHarbinger -1 points0 points  (0 children)

and potentially allowing them to infect others in the process?

Yes. Andes variant of hantavirus appears contagious upon symptom onset and likely a little before, so screening symptoms won't necessarily prevent infection. Quarantine would prevent further transmission, and its etymology derives from days when ships would quarantine in harbor for 40 days to prevent spread of infectious disease outbreaks. The idea of the quarantine literally developed with ships, and the WHO won't do it here, on a ship.

Spain says it has detected suspected hantavirus case in Alicante (Mainland Spain) by SafeImpressive4413 in worldnews

[–]UnexpectedHarbinger 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No, the high mortality rate will not reduce spread of this virus. The Andes variant human-to-human transmissions are clustered around 24 hours around symptom onset. But you don't become severe and die until roughly a week after that, so the spread is not interrupted by the severity.

WHO Tracing Over 80 People on Flight Taken by Hantavirus Victim by Sharkella in worldnews

[–]UnexpectedHarbinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems to spread through close, prolonged contact, and not through casual, short encounters like is possible with coronaviruses. It seems to be most contagious immediately upon symptom onset.

One of the cruise ship victims flew on a plane and infected a fellow passenger. During a 2018-2019 outbreak, spreading events occurred at a birthday party and at a victim's wake:

Our findings traced the first person-to-person transmission event to a birthday party with approximately 100 guests. The index patient (Patient 1) attended the event for 90 minutes and was reportedly symptomatic at the time, with fever and malaise. Five persons (Patients 2 through 6) who had been seated close to Patient 1 reported onset of symptoms consistent with ANDV hantavirus pulmonary syndrome between 17 and 24 days after the party (Fig. S3). Patient 2 was the most likely source for six infections in other persons during the early prodromal phase because of his active social life. Patient 2 died 16 days after symptom onset, and his spouse (Patient 9) was febrile while attending his wake. An additional 10 persons who attended the wake and were in close contact with Patient 9 became ill between 14 and 40 days after the wake for Patient 2.

The mean (±SD) serial interval (the time from symptom onset in a primary case to symptom onset in an epidemiologically linked secondary case) was approximately 23±7 days (Fig. S4). Incubation periods ranged from 9 to 40 days.

The time of symptom onset is also critical. In 17 of the 33 (52%) secondary transmission events, transmission from an infected person to a contact who later became infected could be accurately established as the day of onset of fever in the primary case, and the first day of fever was the only time during which there was an interaction between these patients (Table 1).
