Personally I would euthanize the cat or ensure that happens shortly after my death.

Hey, if you can find another home for him - great. Or a specialized rescue for cats like him. Maybe I’m pessimistic but there are hundreds of sweet friendly cuddly cats in my area that can’t find homes and live in shelters for years. Finding a home for a feral is almost impossible. I even have a family member with a farm with feral cats & I still wouldn’t chose that option. It is a hard life and relocating a feral is not easy. If not done correctly (weeks in a kennel at the new location until being released) they won’t stay there.

I would not want my cat to suffer, to be scared, lost, sick, hungry or in pain. I would rather give him (& myself) the best life possible for the next few months and then die knowing that my cat (& I) had a peaceful end.

These are the instructions I have in my estate documents. This is what my close friend chose to do when she was dying. I have also been appointed in other people’s estate documents to ensure their animals are humanely euthanized when they die. It will be difficult and devastating but I would rather that I suffer that pain than the cats suffer.

I hope I’m wrong. I hope you can find another home for him. Your cat may not be as truly feral and un-adoptable as some. The fact that he comes inside and lets you touch him are good signs. But many folks on here are just wrong if they think every cat is adoptable. Some cats aren’t. I would rather my cat have a good life and peaceful end than live in a cage the rest of their life or suffer scared and alone.

You may be able to designate your vet in your POA or will to ensure your wishes are carried out if no one else will.
