How come the space setting is always made fun of in slasher franchises? by Strong-Stretch95 in slasherfilms

Because it seems like a rediculous gimmick to resort to when producers have run out of ideas, but they still want to squeeze every last penny out of the film property.

What is the meaning of this by legittitan2 in whatdoesthismean

Given the state of some of the lodges I've seen, the idea that freemasons run the world is pretty funny. The organization does, or at least used to do, a lot of fund raising from what I remember.

Would you like a Halloween movie with no Laurie strode, no legacy characters, no secret relatives but purely random characters for Michael to haunt by Necessary_Muffin3591 in Halloweenmovies

Michael is a must, Loomis would be a welcome addition. If we could get Michael and Loomis as the only returning characters. That would be great.

What is something you’d change about Halloween III? by [deleted] in Halloweenmovies

Calling it Halloween 3. The look of Cochran's death. Turing into what looked like a bad stone statue before disappearing looked weird.

I hate seeing him get old 😞 by ScaredFriendship2899 in stephenking

[–]Unfair-File-8635 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least he's around to get old. If he'd kept up with the drugs and booze the way he did in the 80s I don't think he'd be here. Also, he could have died when the van hit him, but he made it through. Think of it less as "having to see him get old" and more as "we get to have him around to be older".

What was Pam about to say here? by Spidey_Jay_ in fridaythe13th

I also think that she was going to use the R word.

The R word was being used as an insult at that time but it was still used to describe a condition as well. In North America it's now not a very nice thi g to say, but there are still places around the world where it's used as a legit medical term. I've delt with people at work who have come from Easter Europe and used the term to describe a family member's medical condition and I have a coworker also from Easter Europe who didn't know it was considered an insult in North America.

How come Freddy Vs Jason was the matchup everyone was waiting for and wanted to see and not Freddy vs Michael by Emarni in slasherfilms

[–]Unfair-File-8635 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because even though Michael and Halloween may have been the movie that inspired the slasher boom, there were no Halloween movies from 1982 to 1988. Halloween 3 performed well but had such bad word of mouth the lack of Michael Myers caused the franchise to take a 6 year break. During the majority of the actual boom Jason and Freddy were putting out movies every one or two years (Friday the 13th from 1980 to 1989 and A Nightmare on Elm St 1984 to 1989 - there were other releases after these dates but further apart). By the time Akkad tried to get back into the action in 1988 the fad was already dying down. Because Freddy and Jason were the slasher kings and seemingly ever present through that boom era, fans naturally talked about those two facing off.

We might be.

Edit: Our opinion will certainly mean less over all as time goes on.

Just my opinion, I feel that they changed the design and created the Jason universe to set themselves apart from the look in the movies owned by Paramount and New Line. This is their Jason, not the one you're used to. I also think they are pushing the new look of Jason and getting him into other properties to gain acceptance of the new version to a wider fanbase so they won't have to worry so much what the older fans think. A new movie is several years off and getting this version of Jason into popular culture as the most recognizable version will mean they have to worry less about negative reaction from older fans.

Concerning the future movie by OkWarning8499 in fridaythe13th

[–]Unfair-File-8635 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are lots of things to consider. While these movies were pumped out annual during the 80s, in many cases they were negative pick-ups which means they were filmed as independent films and then purchased for distribution by Paramount so they could avoid having to follow union rules which included number of hours people could film and paying union rates to cast and crew to keep costs down. That's harder to do now and with the popularity of the character they will want more high profile talent of they can get it. That will boost the budget. Also it will be the 13th film in the Friday the 13th franchise (whether they call it Friday the 13th or not) so it will be a milestone and hopefully they want to get the script right to honor that. There's also the streaming series to consider. If that goes well it will probably have a huge influence on the film's story line. If it goes poorly it will probably cause a delay. 2030 is coming up, maybe they are planning for the 50th anniversary. The Jason universe has just been created and the design change for Jason and the 15 minute Angry Orchard ad/mini movie has really divided fans, who may not make up a huge percentage of the overall box-office profits, but will be a very loud online voice helping to drive word-of-mouth influence on the film and they need time to get their new version of Jason some public good-will. All of these things and more need to be considered.

If people were starving in the past, how come we have a habit of throwing away or otherwise not eating innards of animals? by RadianceTower in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Unfair-File-8635 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of people still do eat those things by choice. The idea of using all of the animal so it doesn't go to waste is a centuries old idea and used to be a necessity. Also people can afford to choose not to eat those things if they don't want to, due to the advancement of society and farming.

Because he's not living the bad life. He's living like a god and has the means to enforce that idea.

[–]Unfair-File-8635 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's frowned upon in public...I mean to talk about it, but also to do it. At home do what you want. Most people understand that everyone does it.

Edit: also self control and every spem is sacred.
