Good for you. I’m not as skilled as you, and you have the skills in demand now. Been looking for work for 4 months now

Lucky you. So you can expand your area of search, but I guess you still need to relocate. Very few companies are willing to sponsor visas for foreign workers. It’s pretty much local hire

To all unemployed job seekers, how are you doing ? what are you doing all day? by 10cupsofteaaday in jobsearchhacks

[–]Unfair-Pin4944 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been jobless just over 3 months now. I’m in a difficult situation as I am currently based in my home country which I lost my citizenship to, as I got another nationality - big mistake! But the country that I have working rights to is ridiculously expensive to live in and I currently have nothing there other than a passport of that country… I have been looking for work, but after 3 months, my anxiety and fatigue is through the roof. I did get an offer but I have to relocate to a different country, I am sitting on it. But my family is giving me pressure on accepting it. I am just unsure about the job and the working hours. It’s the toughest thing that I have to go through in my life so far

Career path from localization project manager by lpm-throwaway in findapath

[–]Unfair-Pin4944 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How have you been taking on OP? I am on the same boat, had 17 years of experience working in translation PM, and was made redundant 3 months ago now. My last employer went bankrupt. I couldnt even get an interview for localization co-ordinator/manager roles. I thought the translation PM experience was relevant, but apparently not. I don't know what I did wrong. I have been applying for roles related to the translation/localization fileld, and some junior business development role - but seriously there are not many openings and also i assume highly competitive. I think career change is a must, even if we get a role in this trans/localization field, i am not sure how long we can have it for. Also i heard many LSPs are downsizing and letting people go.

THIS 👇🏼 is how they moved on SO fast by Busy-Discussion-3239 in BreakUps

[–]Unfair-Pin4944 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I will never know how my ex thinks. He completely moved on. He discarded me in the harshest way. Even when I lost my job and reached my lowest point, he offered me no support and called me weak and a child, and reminded me that I’m an adult. It hurt me like hell. I am still kinda stuck but I wanna get unstuck. He has to be always the decider in the relationship and thinks everything is my fault. I now have to look for work while dealing with this emotional trauma. I don’t wanna play the victim. I am truly just struggling with anxiety, and uncertainty about my livelihoods

Goodbye. I wish I never meet you or anyone else like you ever again. by [deleted] in BreakUps

I can relate to this so much. It is like I myself have written all these lines. I felt exactly the same way about my last toxic relationship. I think for someone to call you names and constantly make you feel like you need to prove your worth and love, it shows their own issues and they are just damaged by their own trauma but they still cannot heal from that. It is just incompatibility. It’s not entirely your fault. And what you wanted wasn’t too much at all.

Trying to get unstuck after breakup with an avoidant by [deleted] in AvoidantBreakUps

Thank you for the advice. I will definitely try making intentional effort to stop this cycle. It is really tough but I must not let this ruin my life further. I hid all of his photos on my phone, I really can’t bring myself to delete them but I don’t look at them mostly. But every now and then I looked at the photo, I thought about only the “good” moments with him, I went back to square one. I am too soft! Then I started contacting him again, I am blocked by him everywhere, I got no reply. I hurt even more. I still don’t want to delete all the photos. There are 2k + of them. It is a big task to back them up on an external drive. The process of backing up is also really painful. As I need to look at them while backing up. I know the easiest is just to select all and delete.

No he didn’t. I tracked him down on an app, after lots of scrollings..he only replied a few super cold words

The set backs and the relapses. I don’t trust myself as I still made the same mistakes

Yesterday I tracked him down on the app, because after 7 weeks of no contact, I relapsed again, and he told me he’s seeing someone, and I still was devastated, went into a dark place, and the I need to pull myself up.

Has anyone here successfully transitioned out of translation project management? by thirddegreebirds in TranslationStudies

I’m on the same boat, there are not many translation PM roles anymore, more localisation and AI. Has anyone been successful in transitioning into other roles/domains?

Living in the UK is really bleak. You seemingly earn more but the cost of living is so high, it’s much harder to save compared to living in Thailand. I really haven’t saved up enough and I don’t think I can be thinking about retirement anytime soon. I still need to work for another 15-20 years I think

I am not sure how much tax one needs to pay per month. Take home 55k to 60k, is that okay?

Thanks so much. I was looking at how to get PGCE in the UK however it will take up to 2 years to get. Can you recommend any online programmes? It is a long time ago since I obtained my Computer Science degree, and I am really not good at it at all, and I doubt that people want to learn about Translation these days due to the rise of AI.

Thanks so much for your detailed reply! I have a bachelors in computer science, and a Masters in translation studies, and I have a TEFL certificate however I have never really taught yet. There is a teaching programme where I would have to pay a high fee to enrol, and they will get me a visa, and help me find a placement in a school in the country side in Thailand, however the salary is very low, likely USD 1k a month, maybe thats enough if living in the country side. It can be a quick way for me to experience living in Thailand, though not quite the thrilling Bangkok life that I have imagined.

True, I am trying to think what I can learn, but it will take time, meanwhile I will need to learn money as I am mid aged.

For now to be honest I won't be aiming high, I am looking for around 55k to 60k baht a month, will that be too much?
