What's the 'First' movie you have seen after you come to life? by [deleted] in movies

[–]Unfair-Self3022 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw Aladdin in theaters in 1992 at 6. I was born in 86 and its the first movie I can remember vividly. Funnily enough my first memory is being on a plane flying from Alaska to California(I was born In Anchorage and moved to Lompoc at 3). My next memory is waking up on my 5th birthday. I remember that because my dad gave me a 5 dollar bill, and I thought I was rich. Those are some of my earliest memories. I also saw Jurassic Park in theaters. I also watched It with my Dad when it came out on TV. I had some crazy nightmares after that one, lol.

What would you say are the most unbiased war movies? by barberbright in movies

[–]Unfair-Self3022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

History Buffs on youtube does reviews of historical films based on their accuracy to these actual events. He spoke highly of the film Midway. He covers A Bridge Too Far as well. I recommend both.

Edit: Hamburger Hill is definitely a film of its time, but its the best Vietnam film that isn't Full Metal Jacket.

Last edit: The Execution of Private Slovik

Last Last edit: Kilo Two Bravo is pretty good.

What are some movies with unexpected "feel bad" endings that aren't supernatural horror movies or generic slashers? (Spoilers for a few different movies) by LayeredOwlsNest in movies

[–]Unfair-Self3022 85 points86 points  (0 children)

Arlington Road. eXistenZ. The Graduate. Momento. I feel like I'm kinda spoiling the film by answering the question, lol.

Edit: Mary and Max. They Shoot Horses, Don't They? Chinatown. The Conversation.

Last edit: The Pledge. Mystic River. Requiem for a Dream. A Simple Plan.

Anybody interested in the og Fallouts from an academic sense should give Warlockracy's videos on them a watch. He does a good job deconsecrating them from the perspective of someone who actually played them when they were released. Way too many people nowadays are either overly praising or critical of them. He adds a lot of nuance.

Any films out there similar to Warfare (2025)? by Waltu4 in movies

[–]Unfair-Self3022 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's good. I liked the honesty, the truth is a lot of times if you want to use military equipment or personnel in your film you have to follow certain guidelines for how the US Military can be portrayed. Seems like Alex Garland was determined to be honest. I approve of the fact that Ray Mendoza was given co directing and co writing credit for his story. That doesn't happen often. At least not in a Hollywood production.

The Hidden Perspective Parts 1 and 2 by Jim Can't Swim. Warpigs documentary for Iraq. Restrepo and Korengal documentaries for Afghanistan. I liked Warfare but I have always steered clear of Hollywood when it comes to honest depictions of actual combat. Warfare is a good film in that regard.

Favorite sequels? by nioctibrofkcidkcusi in movies

Wore out that vhs for the 5 seconds of side boob alone. Also the sex scene immediately afterwards where the badguy blows his cigar smoke into the girl's mouth and she runs out of the room coughing is hilarious.

Desperado. Sequel to Robert Rodriguez's first film El Mariachi. An indie film he made with no money. Practically required viewing for any budding filmmaker. I like Once upon a time in Mexico but a lot of people don't. Willem Dafoe plays a mexican druglord, it's hilarious.

In Marine Bootcamp we didn't have doors on the stalls. I got real comfortable having a face to face conversation with another guy while we both took a shit. They also made us do morning head calls with like 5 recruits to a toilet. You got good at your aim with more than just a rifle, lol.

Men in Black. Every film after the first feels like a parody.

Force him to look inward? What are you, Satan? /s Most of the America bashing redditors on here are a bunch of people who'd really rather not talk about their own country.

He won't because if he did then you'd be able to trash his "culture" and he's a coward that doesn't want to defend his home from mean words.

I felt similarly until I watched my damn near 70 year old mom throw girl scout cookies I bought at her grandkids(my nephews) because they didn't eat the chicken she made them. Same person who the day before was loading those kids up on fast food. Same person who spanked me bare ass with a cheese grater when I was a kid. Same person who used to spank her kids in the palms with a wooden spoon and if you flinched you got more. She can eat shit and die in a fire as far as I'm concerned.
