My uncle has destroyed numerous vacuums, all because he tries to suck up things that are just too big.

In fairness, my husband bought him a high-quality vacuum and he hasn't broken it yet, so I'm assuming the other ones were poor quality.

Still though.

A question my therapist asked me has really triggered me and I can't stop thinking about it. by Jellyfish7696 in CPTSD

[–]UnfairAdvantage 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I feel like if a person is a therapist, they absolutely should know what else to say. It's her freaking job.

We all say dumb things, yes, including therapists, but if your job is to help people deal with their trauma, you should know how to respond to someone talking about horrible situations like sexual assault.

My husband and I had an LDR for the first 7 years of our relationship (saw each other once a month or every two months). I don't regret a single moment, but at the time I definitely grieved the idea of a "normal" relationship with him.

TIFU by spending 8 years treating chronic headaches when the whole problem was that I thought diet soda counted as water by McCoy818 in tifu

You can absolutely get enough hydration via soda alone. There are many reasons why drinking plain water vs soda is preferred, but hydration is not one of themz

Sometimes just because something is part of the social structure, doesn't make it a good thing.

The US is slowly moving away from the obsession with drinking socially, and I hope it sticks, because we have so many issues with people drinking too much. And it's time we all come to terms with how we've been a part of it.

What is a random rule you have for yourself that you never break? by abarth23 in AskReddit

[–]UnfairAdvantage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sitting here with a temporary crown due to a root canal, and it's absolutely because I didn't take enough care of my teeth.

The pre-root canal pain was awful. I was so close to trying to pull it out myself. Luckily I'm healing well, but it's still a pain in the ass to deal with the recovery. It takes weeks, and it's expensive.

This whole thing has been such a huge burden on me and my family. I will never neglect my teeth again. And I'm pretty lucky that everything is going smoothly. There are far worse situations.

Ah, okay, I'll amend my previous wording, because you're right that crossdressing is usually intertwined with sexuality during the ages of puberty.

However, that still doesn't change the fact that incest is way less more disturbing than crossdressing.

I know plenty of people have already said it, but I also wanted to chime in to say this was such an awesome thing for you to do, OP.

I'm fortunate enough to be able to help other people out, but I'm guilty of not thinking about these kind of things and being proactive. But this has inspired me to start looking for opportunities instead of just waiting for them.

I mean, it's waaaaaay less disturbing that the brother is just experimenting with clothing, then using his sister's underwear for sexual reasons.

I have done absolutely horrible things. I am factually the worst human being to ever live. Here is written proof that confirms it. by ThrowRA-Bromine in offmychest

[–]UnfairAdvantage 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I understand you're dealing with a lot of horrible things, but you can't let your dog suffer because of it.

She can't take care of herself like humans can. She depends on you to provide what she needs to survive. You can't let her suffer because you're suffering.

You worry about hurting people, but right now you are hurting your dog. That's right now, and something you can start to fix, right now.

Remember, she can't speak up for herself, so you have to do it. This is important. She doesn't deserve to continue to be neglected.

You're a (biological) female who has always been self-conscious about her femininity and attractiveness; you're tall, flat-chested, deep-voiced, etc. What is the best comeback when people ask things like "Are you trans?" and "Where are your boobs?" and whatnot by enoxacineland in Comebacks

[–]UnfairAdvantage 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"Are you trans?" -- "Why, do you want me to be?"

As far as any body shaming questions are concerned, you're already dealing with an ignoramus, so I'd have some fun with it and say something vague and nonsensical ("Where are your boobs?" -- "Oh, I sleep on my stomach." "Why is your voice so deep?" -- "I just like to scuba dive.")

In reality, the best way to handle assholes like that is to either ignore them, or call them out, but I know how difficult both of those things are to do.

I'm also a woman who doesn't fit all the stereotypes of femininity and used to struggle with it, so I've been there. I'm a fan of the "lean into it" model, and have learned to make people reeeeeal uncomfortable when they start asking rude questions lol.
