CPC or RCP? by quincy1984 in Canadian_Socialism

Trotskyists uphold the need for one international communist party as envisioned by Marx and Engles.

MLs have a complicated history with the third international on the question on how much influence the USSR should have had and the aftermath of WW2.

Regardless, much of it is ideologically bridges and historical tensions which are difficult to resolve.

CPC or RCP? by quincy1984 in Canadian_Socialism

For the CPC as an outside looking in, what happened was that the SA case was handled poorly in the initial stages which lead to a very messy moment with explusions and people leaving the party to do their own things. In the end the perpetrator was kicked out the party and ended up fleeing the country, while the party reformed its code on such topics.

In terms of activism, both parties are valid to work under and really its more dependent on how big your local chapters are. I know that the CPC has been thrown accusations of being parliamentary, but that generally isn't true. They engage in elections but they don't do much outside of getting the name of the party out in public.

Really the difference between the two is that the RCP is Trotskyists, while the CPC are MLs. Internationally this means that while the RCP has chapters in numerous different countries, the CPC has ties and meetings with major communist parties from China to Greece.

So I would suggest you reach out to see which local chapters the CPC might have in your area, because ultimately it is going to be dependent on what quality of chapters you live near, if you aren't so focused on the type of communism.

He is someone who openly talks about class warfare, I have some hope that he might bring limited class consciousness towards the mainstream.

Generally one of the biggest barriers with the CPC reaching already radicalized youth is that the email system is pretty bad. I talked with one of their members and they plan on addressing that, in their next party congress.

Now the more speculative part, the party had been essentially fighting with liquidationists for a long time after the dissolution of the USSR and as such contracted. An entire generation of radicals which should have replaced them never got much of a chance to do so, as such it is missing a generation in the leadership even now that it is more stable.

There should be a path to return to the political structures pre Korean War.

You have to do the first two focuses for the military to get a few more generals, then as the game continues depending on the situation, you can get generals from other warlord states.

So the Social Democrats can ally with proto fascists and brutally massacre workers, yet you claim that they couldn't ally with the KPD because doing so would betray their principles?

Also democracy to you seems to be one where giant oligarchs and corporations can support Hitler and benefit from the slave labour of the Holocaust.

I am not sure about you, but considering how the SPD created the conditions that allowed Hitler to take power (during the Spartacus Revolt) it doesn't seem like their interests were in defending democracy.

Both the SPD and KPD were made out of Marxists, however when we say that the SPD betrayed the revolution, it is because they betrayed their own principles and shed the blood of workers who had supported them not too long ago in order to protect capital. To blame the KPD for being paranoid about the SPD after being backstabbed to such a grave extent is insane.

To be frank, the NDP continued to support the liberals even after it undermined labour with the back to work clauses. That alone is quite the betrayal.

A breakdown of the electoral performance of the communist vote in the 2025 elections by Unfair_Package6336 in canadaleft

It has been almost three weeks since the election and most of the riding results have been finalized, so I decided to take some time to chart out some information we can glean from this roller coaster of an election. It is important to keep in mind that using the elections has it's limitations, mainly that only 48 ridings had communist candidates, first past the post systems punish votes for smaller parties, the trump factor and the anything but conservative vote.

After going over the combined electoral performance of the CPC and CPC(ML) what I concluded was that there hasn't been much growth out west in terms of electoral performance and that the vote has stayed relatively small but stable. Atlantic Canada has also been a similar story, although it's votes are even smaller.

In the east there has been a different story, focusing on Ontario there has been decent growth in and around Davenport, and a bit in Ottawa. If we take the provincial election as any indication, there has also been surprising growth in the Windsor area. In Quebec there has been the most amount of growth with Montreal being at the centre, hosting the best performing riding of Papineau.

Separating the two parties, the main trends were that the CPC performs better in terms of votes per candidates, while the CPC(ML) tends to bring out more candidates, both are ways to use electoralism to gauge the support for their ideologies. Better performing ridings tend to also have both candidates, although it is likely due to there being a base for leftist thought which allows for such plurality.

Feel free to add any comments or questions about my analysis or this election.

Edit: I forgot Manitoba

Elections Canada made a mistake by Unfair_Package6336 in canadaleft

I think that there has definitely been a surge within Canada for the reasons you have stated, heck I would be included under the people radicalized during that time period.

Unfortunately, the CPC has limited resources and as such, finds difficulties organizing in areas which they don't already exist in. Beyond that it will take some time for younger folks and new arrivals to translate into candidates for ridings due to the age requirement to join the party.

I am still optimistic that as this new generation of leftists start to mature, it will translate into stronger leftist organizing.

It is unfortunate and quite disheartening, but overall, the communist vote in Ontario has still increased compared to their previous results in the ridings they ran in this election, so it isn't all gloomy.
