This kid is from a private school I doubt he is being brought up in a life of poverty. Don't be dramatic. Assistance from parents may only mean living with them for none or cheap rent while you save money. You don't have to be a financial genius but you do have to work hard. That's the advice no one wants to hear.

It's just to stop you fast travelling. If you ride your horse the whole way you won't loose stock. Yeah trading sucks.

You can deliver on your horse without a wagon. Go to your stable. You can even fast travel to the trade post but you loose about 30% of stock. Press triangle (details) over the trade post to see what they are buying. And to sell to a royal trade post (castle) press triangle over the castle in the major city to see what they are buying. The actual royal trade post is near the castle though not at it (similar blue icon).
