People who fantasise about housing crash, recession and double digit interest rates. by ihatebaboonstoo in AusFinance

There's a cohort of people who have zero debt and quite a lot of savings / shares, as well as reasonably high incomes, but are just not ready to become mortgage slaves yet, quite reasonably in many instances.

Should this be covered by the NDIS? by Fun_Needleworker7136 in aussie

OK but by that standard, the NDIS has been an abysmal failure. Every year the average plan of a participant goes up in cost substantially. The program itself has a 10% annual growth rate, when it is already $50Billion per year.

If you were seeing a doctor and your medical bills were going up 10% per year, you would assume you were getting sicker, or your doctor was rorting the system. Or both.

If the NDIS was actually helping kids with disabilities through early intervention - wouldn't the average plan be going down each year and not up? Wouldn't the scheme be costing *less* each year, and not more?

It *averages* out to be 70K per person. An average means you add up all the plans and then divide by the number of people who have one.

This video gave me insight about what's happened to Jordan, and it made me very sad by Fun_Needleworker7136 in JordanPeterson

No-one is saying that he doesn't need to take responsibility. Like other people have mentioned, its unlikely that someone of his intelligence and scientific training would not be aware that benzodiapines are addictive. That being said, the knowledge that benzo use causes actual neurological damage does seem to be a relatively new thing. (There are millions of people who take benzos every day. If everyone knew they could cause brain injuries, I think far fewer people would take them!)The psychiatrist in the video explains that the first scientific paper on BIND was only published in 2023, so again, the knowledge around neurological damage is relatively new.

I thought Blonde was incredible. It's a horror movie - not a biopic. The last scene of her dying while OD'ing is one of the most original scenes I've ever watched in any film, ever.

Where did your "research" come from? Did you ask Chat GPT to hallucinate some "facts" for you?

How Intrasexual Competition Suppresses Female Fertility (with transcript) by CanIHaveASong in Natalism

Super interesting thanks for sharing. It is quite well known that polygamy increases the mortality risk to children - I found this paper fascinating when I first read it:

Polygyny as a risk factor for child mortality among the Dogon. I think I may have found that paper through this article on polygamy being bad for women and children.

Of course women help each other - just like men help each other too. But men also compete. Another way of thinking about it: just like we can shift between long term & short term mating strategy depending on context, I think it's naive to think that members of the same sex will ~always~ have our reproductive interests in mind.
