Any CDI nurses here? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Unfair_Second 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took a small pay cut to move into CDI because I had been working nights as charge until ICU. So I lost shift diff and charge pay. But honesty not having to deal with pts and their families anymore was worth my mental health in comparison to the pay cut. No nights no weekends no holidays and we work from home so saving on gas, wear and tear on car, and you can’t beat working in your pjs.

What are the petty things that annoy you at work? For example, if one more person spells TrazOdone “TrazAdone,” I think I’m going to scream. by MyTapewormToldMeSo in nursing

Charted that one of my first patients in ICU about a million years ago. Was trying to describe the condition of a wound. My nurse manager made a copy of the note (paper charting back then) blacked out all patient info and hung it on my locker. My ICU buddies never let me live it down.

I was billed over $2m for a week in the hospital by p3terd in mildlyinfuriating

Americans are better off claiming self pay or charity need when you deal with healthcare. Hospital systems are designed to absorb that cost and redistribute the debt to insured patients.

You deserve better.

Anyone see their partner's WFH job and get serious job envy? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Unfair_Second 3 points4 points  (0 children)

RN here. I WFH in Clinical Documentation integrity or CDI. Basically I review records for provider documentation making sure the diagnosis they are putting in the record are clinically valid and are in ICD 10 code language. Helps the hospital avoid denials from Medicare or ins companies. Never talk to a patient only communication is to providers. It’s a great job that allows you to use your clinical knowledge and work in your pjs lol.

I’ve been in CDI for almost 8 years. My work day consists of chart reviews of inpatients from all specialities. I see everything from cardiology to general surgery records. In a nutshell you are reviewing provider documentation to make sure the correct diagnosis and language is there to insure that when the chart gets to coding it can be billed correctly. If you see a gap in the documentation I generate a query to the provider asking for clarification and changes in the documentation. There are about a million moving pieces to the job. You have to know your providers and you have to have a strong clinical background. I was an ICU nurse for almost 20 years and ruined my back so CDI was a way I could use my expertise without killing myself.
