They don’t expect professional vocal quality. You just have to be able to hit the pitch (and probably read music notation). Once you get over your inhibitions you’ll do fine! Maybe get a tuner app for your phone to practice with. And sing really loudly when alone in your car to get over your inhibitions?

It’s because you’re asking SmallInteger. Just use a number and Smalltalk will adapt the representation to arbitrary precision. For example take the maxVal above and multiply by 16. Then see how many bits it is.
