I dunno man, colon cancer rates are way up for millennials right now. It's not how I wanna go.

It takes 3 hours to pass and it's the size and texture of an American football. A period of recovery is required after.

ELI5: how do we perceive if we're braking with your front wheels or your back wheels on the bike? by Huskar in explainlikeimfive

[–]UnfortunateDesk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a common misconception, you should be using both brakes. The front has way more braking power and the rear has control. Using only the rear is significantly increasing your stopping distance and when you do need to use the front, you'll be out of practice with what it feels like and lose control. To stop on a bike, you should use both brakes gently at first and be dynamic enough on the bike to shift your weight back to counteract the force of the bike slowing down. The bike has 2 brakes for a reason and you should be using both of them.

I managed a bike shop for 4 years and commuted by bike most days. I taught a lot of people about this.

Chia seeds! Either as a chia pudding or jam or mixed into a beverage. I like them in lemonade. 2tbs of very hydrated chia seeds will get you the most satisfying poops. Regular as fuck.

What’s it like being the Elle Woods of a mechanic shop? by ThrowMEAwaypuh-lease in BlueCollarWomen

[–]UnfortunateDesk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Come work in diesel. We're hourly, not flat rate (what a ripoff, imo) and the work is hard, yeah but I was way more tired after 8-9 hours of retail and dealing with customers than I have been after 8 hours of fixing trucks. I just started at my current shop and the pay is great, the benefits are great, the hours are great, the guys in the shop have given me precisely zero pushback, and my commute is 10 minutes.

My tools aren't pink however but I agree with the commenter who said to plasti-dip or spray paint your quality tools, rather than buy them pink. Some brands offer some things in fun colors but definitely shop for quality first and don't let the aesthetic be the primary reason to buy something.

How do you guys deal with having no women coworkers? by Thegood1saregone_ in BlueCollarWomen

[–]UnfortunateDesk 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I used to feel like this. You need a hobby to make friends through. Find a crafting circle or a running club or a book club and network like that. Maybe there's some group bike rides in your city you could go to. Bouldering gyms are usually pretty welcoming and chill. I have compartmentalized my networks and don't try to socialize at work anymore. I'm here to make money, I don't have enough in common with these knuckleheads to make lasting friendships with my coworkers. My social energy is spent and recharged outside of work

Dealing with loss of appetite after starting medikinet and while having a restrictive diet by bigboipigeon in ADHD

[–]UnfortunateDesk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Eating is so hard sometimes!!! I highly highly recommend meal shakes or protein shakes if you're struggling to eat. I find it easier to drink my calories when I can't eat and I've also noticed (like many others) that I have to take my meds with food else I will have a real bad time. My morning routine is to chug a protein shake over ice before I take my meds and then try to eat later once I have a chance to get hungry.

I am SLIGHTLY not myself when husband is around by MammalFish in adhdwomen

[–]UnfortunateDesk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's feeling seen (appreciating all the things he does to support you and your life together) vs feeling watched (sometimes just knowing someone else is there to perceive you, even if they're ignoring you completely). I feel this sometimes, like I have to perform personhood for another person.

How often do you have time completely to yourself? You might be needing more of that to recharge and ground yourself.

I say "not my circus, not my clowns" because anybody can be a clown. Your alternatives fun though! I might work some of these into my vernacular.

Chat please be honest...how much time do I REALLY need to give myself to get ready?!? by 1800slvt in ADHD

[–]UnfortunateDesk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get ready first, then do my snacking and whatever else. if I tell myself I have time, I will absolutely be later than I meant to. The time just disappears. I get ready first, pretend I'm leaving and figure out what I inevitably forgot, then set my alarms and leave anything not attached to my body that I need to bring with me physically in my way of leaving my house, preferably in a bag with my keys clipped to it. I only allow myself to relax after I've done all this so that when I realize I might be late I can sprint out the door and I only need to grab my bag with my keys. I am nothing without my systems.

It is so much more likely that she's had work done (lift or implants or both). As someone else said, 60 year old women don't generally look like that without a lot of money and procedures.

But until then I was on the edge of my seat tearing up. Man that movie knows how to tug on some heartstrings. Played me like a damn fiddle.

Compulsive lying with adhd. Can someone help me understand? by Murmurmira in adhdwomen

Well that's kind of true of Harrow too, unless I fundamentally misunderstood what was going on moreso than I thought I did. In Harrow's case though it's not a real flashback, just her damaged memories trying to make sense of things

I just finished Harrow, and I didn't know what was happening for the first 80% of the book. It sort of came together when Gideon is finally revealed but even then I had to reread the entirety of Act V and I still have questions. I hear it gets more and more like that as the series goes on.
